Chapter 4
Miles POV.
I stare at him as he stares at her.
Why does he keep staring at her? Can't he tell she's uncomfortable.
"May I be excused? I feel tired." Emily stands up and she waits for someone to answer her.
She was never allowed to leave a room without permission. It was drilled into her mind to always ask before she did anything.
They stare at her as if she's a broken doll and they don't know how to fix her. Give her time.
"Of course, Emily. Would you like me to come with you?" I ask her and she smiles at me softly but shakes her head.
"No thank you. I will be resting." She repeats and I nod as she walks out of the room.
I feel everyone's eyes on me as I notice him leave. The guy that brought us here. Sam.
"Miles?" Someone snaps their fingers in front of me and I look at them. It's her mom. Bethany.
"Yes?"I ask, confused.
"Can you explain to me what happened in all these years?" Bethany asks.
"I will be right back,"I quickly say as I walk out of the room to see Emily standing on the stairs and Sam staring at her.
"Is there something wrong?" I ask as I walk upstairs towards her.
"I feel like I've seen her before," Sam tilts his head to the side as he watches Emily.
"I assure you, you have not. You are making her uncomfortable with the staring." I stand in front of her and Sam looks up at me.
"Sorry man," he backs away and walks back down the stairs.
"Have you seen him before?" Emily asks me as I turn around to look at her.
"Never in my life." I answer her with a smile.
Anything to make her smile back at me. If I would have a bad day, Emily would always smile at me and I would laugh and everything would be perfect for minutes. It was a habit to make her smile now. I could not go a day without smiling at her.
"Come on. Let's get you upstairs. Your family has questions for me." I say to her as she holds my hand and nods.
"Am I allowed to tell them?" I ask her as I open the room door. She walks inside and nods her head.
"I think I need to have another shower," she says to herself as she looks at her hands and pulls on the dress a little.
"I can ask them to get you some more clothes. Something more comfortable?" I say and she nods smiling at her clothes.
"Yes please." She says pulling the dress over her body, leaving her in her lingerie.
"Could you find me some concealer as well?" She asks as she turns to me and I nod.
Her body was covered in scars that would stay there forever. Cameron would always tell her to cover her body in concealer but never her face. She was beautiful and she would be beautiful to everyone.
"Be careful. I'll make sure there's something left for you to wear when you come out of the shower." I tell her and she nods, lost in her own thoughts as she walks to the bathroom again.
I close the door to the room and let out a deep sigh. I wait for her to turn the shower on, listening to her breathing.
I was afraid she would try to do something she would regret. I never let her shower alone,I would stand outside the bathroom as she showered, for a couple of years until I realised she was not going to make the same mistake again.
She was close to her 17th birthday and it was the only day she would get a day off from everything, but it was different this time. Cameron had come home and I hated him. He grabbed her and told her he had a present for her. She did not care. I could see the fear in her eyes as she called out to me. She begged me to do something and I followed her as he took her to a dark room. It was silent, I could hear the water dripping onto the ground. I was going to kill him until I felt them inject me with wolfsbane. They had paralyzed me enough that I could not move or talk as they climbed on top of her. She screamed every hour as every new man took his way with her. She cried, she bled and they all laughed at her, claiming she was a virgin for eternity.
I had woken up the next day and I had crawled to her room, because I could still not feel my body. Everything was numb. The room was empty and I had called out her name. I had stood up and walked to the bathroom and she had the shower on and she was laying on the floor covered in her own blood. She had cut her wrists but it did not kill her. I had screamed, and they had ran into the room, cursing as they looked at her, saying she was just a mess.
I never left her alone after that day. I fought every day Cameron would take her into his room. I would claw at the doors until they beat me up and I would mindlink her telling her to think of something else. To think she was standing on the cliff and watching sunsets.
She became oblivious to her surroundings for days. She would not know what happened to her. Her mind would shut off the second Cameron appeared in front of her.
"What are you doing standing there?" Jaxon, her dad appears in front of me.
"Sorry I was lost in thought," I answer him truthfully.
"Listen boy, everyone's waiting for you downstairs. We need you to tell us what happened." He says and I nod silently.
I walk down the stairs and he follows me as I head to the living room. They were waiting, silently and patiently as I entered the room. Jaxon closes the door behind me.
Good. She wouldn't hear any of this.
"Start from the beginning," Jaxon orders and I nod.
"They brought her into the small house. They injected her with blugasm," I start off by saying.
"Blugasm? How did they get that?" Skylar interrupts me.
"They have been growing it. A small dose of it will not affect her as it would affect you. They would give a big dose of the liquid and it would keep her down for an hour at most." I explain and she frowns as Cole holds her hand tightly.
"And then?" Ashton asks.
"Until the age of ten, she would be cleaning, doing regular chores around the house." I sigh, having no idea what to say to them.
"I don't know what you all want me to tell you. It's 13 years of life and I don't think I can even explain what happened properly." I explain to them.
I watch them sigh quietly.
"Did they hurt her?" Jaxon asks.
A breathless laugh slips past my lips as I answer him. "Yes. They hurt her, terribly."
"Why was she shaking when I hugged her?" Ashton asks, frowning.
I don't look at them as I answer the question. I stare out the window. "Emily does not trust men. She will never trust them easily. You are all new people to her. When someone is raped multiple times, their body can automatically go into pause. She needs time to heal an-"
Jaxon growls.
"What did you say?" He takes a step towards me.
"She was raped." I repeat.
They should know what she is going through. She has her family and they should help her and not treat her like she would break.
"What the fuck were you doing?" He growls at me loudly.
"Sorry?" I ask, confused.
"What were you doing? Did you touch her? Did you not protect her?" He grabs me by the collar and pushes me up against the door.
I laugh and he growls louder.
"Isn't it your job to protect her? Or did you all give up on her when her scent was found on a body?" I glare at them all.
I push Jaxon away from me as he stares at me in shock.
"She waited! She waited for you all to come for her. At the age of six, she did not cry. She did not eat. She waited! For fuck sake," I shout at them. "She waited for her dad to come for her. For her mom, for her brother! She did not listen to a word he said about you all. She waited ten years!"
I couldn't stop the words flowing out of my lips as anger took control.
"Ten years! Ten fucking years she waited for you all. He told her so many lies! He told her that you did not care and she did not listen to a word he said." I shake my head at them, "every punch, every kick, every whip, every slap," I count on my fingers, "she did not break. She cried herself to sleep but she woke up and she fought him every day."
"She would tell me stories of her family and she would promise me that they were going to get her out of there." I laugh as I shake my head at them. "Do you know when she broke?"
They do not answer me. Bethany silently cries but they need to hear it.
"She was 16 and she ran away. She was this close," I hold my hands together, an inch away from each other. "She was this close to escaping him. He told her many lies that you all moved on. She did not listen and she had found you," I sigh as I look at the ceiling.
I was not going to fucking cry.
"She found you all," I blink at them. "You were chasing each other and she smiled before he came for her. She could not stop him as he injected her with blugasm. So much of it that she fainted, but I did not stop. I screamed and shouted your name," I point towards Jaxon. "I called out to you. You did not look up. You did not look at me as they dragged her back into the car. They moved locations and that is when she broke. When her family was so close to her and they did not realise it." I glare at him.
"Don't you dare say I did not protect her. I did what I could, which was a lot more than you did." I say out of anger.
It happens so fast. I don't see it as he extends his arm and punches me across my jaw.
"Fuck. Off." He growls. "Get out of my sight or I will kill you." He glares at me.
"I am not afraid of you. I am afraid of that girl upstairs that is holding on to god fucking knows what because I do not see anything that is worth holding onto." I walk out of the door as I hear him growl again.
I let out a deep sigh as I massage my jaw and head upstairs.
I was not afraid of them. Alphas or not, I had gone through worse and if death welcomed me with open arms for telling them the truth, I would gladly die for her.
Emily's pov.
I'm taking her home.
Calm down.
What are we going to do?
We're not going to treat her like a doll.
I shut out the thoughts from my mind as the door opens and Miles walks inside empty handed.
"I forgot to get you something to wear," he groans and I shrug my shoulders, sitting in my lingerie.
"It's okay." I say to him as he sighs and walks towards the bed.
"What's wrong?" I ask, noticing the fisted hands.
"Did you ever think I didn't protect you?" He kneels down in front of me. "My mind is going crazy." He sits down on the floor.
"Hey," I hold his hand and turn it around on my lap. I trace the letter E on it. "Don't think like that. You and I are going to get better. We are going to live our life and not let anyone tell us no. What do you say?" I say to him and he grins looking up at me.
"Who are you?" He gasps staring at me.
I laugh for the first time in a few days. "We're free, Miles. We should not live in fear of being caught. My family will protect us." I smile at him.
I had scrubbed my body clean again, and had looked at myself in the mirror. I needed to stop living in fear of him. Miles was always happy around me. I needed to be happy around him, for him to see I was perfectly okay.
"I do not think they will protect me," he frowns looking down at his hands.
"Why not?" I ask.
"I just shouted at them all." he grins and I smile.
"I will protect you." I promise him.
"Always?" He asks.
I place my hand on my heart. "Always." I answer him just as the door opens and mom walks inside.
I quickly pull up the duvet around me, as she looks at me.
"Can you get me some clothes please?" I ask her softly.
She nods quickly and walks out of the room. In a few seconds she arrives back with clothes in her hands.
"Do you think you can get ready quickly? We'll be going home in a few minutes. They're all excited to meet you." She says to me. I nod my head and she leans down and kisses me on my head, before leaving the room.
"I like this," Miles says as he stands up and holds the long flowery dress. "What do you think?" He asks looking at me.
I frown, shaking my head as I look at the other clothes. I pull out the shorter black dress.
"I like this," I say. My legs would be able to breath and not feel restricted.
"Yes I like that too." He nods putting the other dress on the bed. "Quickly get ready so you can go with your family," he grins at me.
I stand up, taking my dirty lingerie off and he turns around to look away. I pull on the black short dress. It's a bit big but feels nice against my body.
"Ready?" He asks, holding his hand out to me without turning around.
"Yes." I say as I pick up the clothes and place them on the bed. I hold his hand and he smiles at me. I smile back as we walk out of the room.
The house is silent, as if something terrible had happened.
We walk down the stairs and I see my parents waiting there with the rest of the family. They smile at me. Dad frowns at Miles but he doesn't look at dad. He's looking outside the open door.
"Your shoes," Mom says, handing them to me.
I sit down on the stairs and quickly wear them.
"We're taking you home, princess," dad smiles at me. I smile back as I hold onto Miles hand and walk ahead.
He let's go of my hand as I walk out of the door.
I stop walking as dad opens the door to the car.
"Miles, come on," I say to him as I turn to look at him.
"I'm going to stay here," he smiles at me and I shake my head, frowning at him.
You can't leave me. I mindlink him.
"I'm not leaving you. I'll always be a thought away," he points to his head and I shake my head.
"I'm not leaving you here." I say, trying to hold his hand. He pulls away and I frown, shaking my head at him.
"You're coming with me. Please." I plead at him, not caring if the whole world was staring at me.
I needed Miles. He was my peace. The one person that I could talk to without freaking out. I needed him.
"Emily, he wants to stay here," Ashton says to me and I ignore him.
I ignore them all.
I need to protect you. You need to protect me. We need to be together. I can't protect you if you're not with me. I whisper to him.
He smiles as he walks towards me. Miles leans down and kisses me on the forehead as I close my eyes. You have done enough. He answers me and I shake my head.
"I'm not leaving you." I say to him.
Miles needed me. Just as I needed him. I needed to save him, to protect him like he protected me.
Cameron had nearly killed Miles. Miles had had enough of it all and he had fought Cameron to the death. He was fighting him when others had joined and they nearly killed him. I had healed him, and it had worked somehow. I had promised to protect him.
"He can come with us," dad mumbles behind me. "Get in the car." He says and Miles smiles at me.
You do hold some authority here. He says in my mind and I smile at him as I hold his hand and pull him towards the car.
"Thank you for looking after us." Miles thanks Ashton and the rest of the family as we sit inside the car.
"Time to meet Oli." Mom grins at me and I smile.
Oli. I missed him.
****
"Oliver!" Mom shouts as we walk into the house. It had taken many hours to get here but I was finally feeling better.
Miles had slept through it all besides me while I stared out the window and enjoyed the beautiful world.
"Is she here?" I hear a voice from above before I see someone running downstairs.
He wraps his arms around me.
Sunsets. Sunsets.
"I fucking missed you," he whispers to me softly as I wrap my arms around him.
"I missed you too,Oli." I reply to him.
"Is she here?!" I hear another voice before I hear a gasp and another pair of arms wraps around me.
"Please say you did not forget me. I'm Eliza," she hugs me tightly as she pushes Oli away.
"I didn't," I answer her as I wrap my arms around her.
"Amanda! She's here!" Eliza pulls away and shouts loudly. I wince at the sound as Amanda runs downstairs, pushing a pair of earrings into her ears.
She slips down the stairs as she stares at Miles.
"Fuck." Dad curses as he watches her fall and lay on the ground, oblivious to the pain as she stares at Miles who does not stop staring at her.
He growls lowly as Oli tries to help her up.
"Mine," he growls as he walks past us all and helps her up.
"I just found my soulmate," Amanda whispers staring up at him.
"Your parents need to come and have a talk with him then," dad says as he closes the front door.
"How about we leave them to talk? In the living room and with the door opened," mom says grinning at Miles who blushes.
He looks at me.
What do I say? He mindlink me.
I smile at him.
Be yourself. Tell her she looks beautiful. I rely back thinking of what boys usually say to girls in books.
She's stunning, Emily. He holds his hand out to her. She grins and holds it as he walks into the living room.
"Come on, princess. Let's meet the others," Dad wraps his arm around my shoulder and walks me towards the kitchen.
"Dads!" Eliza groans as we open the door to the kitchen and I see Ryan and Eric pull away from each other. "Even Oli and I don't kiss this much," she mumbles at them.
"You better be keeping your distance. What did I say?" Eric says to her as Dad smiles at Oli who rolls his eyes.
"I can only touch him when I am 25." Eliza mumbles under her breath.
"It's okay, baby." Oli winks at her and she blushes.
"Hey. I'll take that eye out," Eric warns him.
"Emily?" Ryan suddenly says and he walks towards me. I freeze as he wraps his arms around me.
Sunsets sunsets.
"Hi." I say as he pulls away grinning at me.
"Baby girl I missed you," Eric grins at me as he holds his hand out. I high five him like I used to do when I was a child. He smiles at me.
"Come on, sit down," Ryan says as he points to the chair. I sit down slowly as they all watch me.
"Would you like anything to eat?" Mom walks into the kitchen, asking.
"No thank you." I answer, resting my hands in my lap as I stare at the wall ahead.
I can feel their eyes on me, watching what I would do. I stay silent, counting to a thousand in my mind as they talk around me.
Suddenly the door opens and I look up quickly to see Miles and Amanda walking into the kitchen. Everyone watches them with wary eyes.
"He's my soulmate!" Amanda grins as she looks at Eliza. They suddenly start talking about accepting him into the pack and how they needed a bigger room. How they would tell the Kyle and Rachel once they were back.
I hear the laughter in their voices.
My mind wanders off to when Cameron told me my family would not come.
I lay silently on the bed, unable to move from the numbness in my body. I stare at the white wall, at nothing. I feel his fingers as he trails them over my chest and towards my neck. I don't feel the pain as he squeezes it and tilts my head up so I look at him.
I stare at him with empty eyes as he smirks above me.
"They will not come. They think you have died. How close you were to your happiness, and I snatched it from your hands. How does it feel, Emily?" he whispers against my skin.
How does what feel?
"They will live their life in happiness. I could give you happiness. Is that what you need?" I feel his hands squeeze my body.
What do I need?
"I sent a body to them. Do you remember who you killed? I sent that body after letting my wolves destroy its face. I poured your blood all over it. Your scent covered the body. They think you are dead." His thumb traces the outline of my lips. "Such a beautiful little girl." He whispers.
Who did I kill?
"Emily? You're shaking." I hear mom's voice.
I try to breath but I cover my mouth as I feel my magic rising.
The magic. It was overpowering me again. I was never off blugasm for so long. It would not kill me but it killed my magic for days. I needed to get out.
I needed to let it out.
"Hey hey," I feel him touch my shoulder and I look up at Miles with wide eyes. I feel the tears falling from my eyes as I can't breathe.
"Deep breath. Let it out." Miles says to me but I shake my head. He lifts my hand and traces the letter M on it but I shake my hand.
My hand was freezing. He curses as he looks at my mom.
"She has magic and she can't control it. Is there anywhere she can go to let it out?" He asks quickly.
"Outside," Dad answers as he opens the door and I don't hesitate as I run outside.
I let out a breath, as I form an invisibility shield around myself. My magic would not hurt anyone. I run ahead, and fall to the ground as my magic pours out of me and into the shield. It bounces up and down in the shield, the golden light screaming to be let out. I breath in and out and watch as the magic disappears.
The world falls silent around me as the shield disappear and I sit on the grass. The flowers around me grow a little and I sigh, laying on the ground.
I stare up at the sky.
I was close to home but far away so they could not see me. They would not come for me. I was safe here.
"Hi," I hear dad say as he walks towards me. I watch as he sits down and lays down next to me.
"I did not know you had any magic," he says, moving closer to me. I don't move as he plucks the flowers from the ground, watching as they grow again.
"Remember when I would come crying into your room on Wednesdays because of the pain?"I turn to look at him and he nods as he sits up. "I was ten years old when it stopped. I was so happy, dad, that I wasn't in pain one week. The next week I got my magic." I tell him.
It was a lot more than that but he didn't need to know the pain.
"What is your magic?" He asks quietly.
"I can control the elements. I can read peoples minds. I can heal people. I can be invisible." I tell him as I sit up.
"Daddy can I ask you a question?"I ask softly.
"Yes of course." He answers me immediately.
"Would Miles and I stop being friends now that he found his mate?" I sigh.
He wraps an arm around my shoulder and I rest my head on his shoulder. "I don't think he would throw the friendship away like that. What you both have is honesty and trust between each other. You trust him and I trust you. I don't think he would stop being your friend," dad says. "But," he continues, "but he has found his soulmate. We are protective and we get jealous and sometimes we can't control our feelings. Amanda has found her soulmate. To her, Miles is more important than you. She will always put Miles ahead of you and if she sees you with him, it could spark jealousy. I will tell her to behave-"
"No it's okay dad." I say shaking my head.
"Does a soulmate make you happy?" I ask staring ahead.
"Tremendously." He answers.
I'm happy Miles found his soulmate. He will be happy.
"I think you will find your soulmate when you are ready and you will be the happiest girl in the world." Dad smiles at me.
"Do you think I have a soulmate?" I ask looking up at him.
"Of course you do, princess. I'll bring everyone here if you want to have a soulmate." He chuckles.
I smile but do not answer him as I rest my head on my knees.
I am broken and I will forever be broken.

Tell me I'm not the only one who ships her with Miles?
