Chapter 2

"I'm tired," I say as I pull on his hand, trying to make him stop walking.

"Just a few more minutes. I promise, I'll find a wolf somewhere," he replies pulling me up the hill.

"Miles," I sigh, "I'm really tired. I can't hold the shield any longer," I say to him and he nods as he stops walking.

"I need you to shield yourself. I'm going to try this village. They should know where we are. I'll get you some clothes to wear too and I'll bring some food so you can keep up your energy." He says and let's go of my hand.

"Don't leave me here," I take a step towards him and he shakes his head.

"I'm not leaving you. I never will," he smiles at me as he holds my hand. "But I can't take you with me. I need you to wait here," he says lifting my hand and kissing it softly.

I nod slowly as he let's go of my hand.

He disappears behind the hill and I start counting to keep my racing heart from exploding. I was powerful, but with power came danger. I could not do anything without Miles. He was my rock. By my side forever. I had never stepped out of the house for years, until yesterday.

We had been walking for hours and hours, going to villages and towns, but Miles could not scent out a wolf. He had said he was going to try this last one. I needed food, I needed something to wear. Anything. Miles had given me his jumper and I had worn it under my robe and secured my robe around my body tightly so nobody could see me.

I never wore clothes. Cameron never allowed me too. When I was ten years old, he would give me very short skirts to wear and I felt uncomfortable. When I grew up, the skirts were replaced with very very short shorts. When I turned 14, the clothes were gone. It was lingerie and working in that while men came and touched me. They could do nothing else but look and touch. Until I was 16. I was forced to walk through the house with nothing on for weeks. For anyone to come and do whatever they wanted. I could not move for days, until I had begged Cameron to let me wear clothes. He had said no clothes but I could wear lingerie. I did anything to cover up.

I feel the world slow down as I see Vampires flashing around me. I stop breathing, praying my shield is still making me invisible. I don't move as I hear them talk.

"I can smell his scent. He's close by." Mike says standing in front of me, oblivious to the fact that I was also there.

Miles.

They run up the hill and disappear as I stay frozen in my spot.

I wait, counting to a hundred before I see Miles running down the hill. I run towards him and grab a hold of his hand, the shield wrapping itself  around him.

"Don't scare me like that," he pants, holding onto the bags.

"I'm sorry," I quickly apologise and he smiles looking at me.

"They're close by and we need to go. Do you think you can flash us out of here? Another ten miles and we would find wolves." He tells me and I nod as he smiles at me.

"Let's go. I stole some food and clothes," he says and I smile as I hold onto his hand tightly and flash us out of there. I run faster, until I feel my energy slowly disappearing.

"I have to stop," I say as I let go of his hand and lean against the tree. I feel the tiredness kick in my body and I collapse onto the ground.

"Here, drink," he kneels down next to me and opens a water bottle for me. I drink the water, letting it cool my throat.

My magic would drain me easily when I was young until I had learnt how to control it. I had killed a vampire when he had hit me. Cameron had allowed me to kill him because Cameron did not let anyone else hurt me. He had tied the vampire to the wall and told me to let go. I had let go of my magic and the man had exploded into mist but I had collapsed onto the ground.

Cameron had realised my magic was weak. He would teach me himself every week. I had tried to use my magic on him, and I had succeeded as well until I had opened the door to escape to get shot with needles filled with something blue. I had collapsed and Cameron had leaned near my face and whispered to me I could destroy you. I will give you magical books, but I will never teach you your magic.

He never taught me after that day.

"Here, eat," Miles holds the sandwich to me and I take a bite out of it as he sits on the ground.

"I didn't know what girls like to wear," he says as he pulls out a pair of very long blue jeans and a very long dress. "So I just picked up whatever was there and then they realised I was going to steal it so I ran," he explains to me and I nod as I point to the dress.

"I think that will fit me," I say and he hands it to me, putting the jeans on the side.

I stand up slowly, and pull the robe off my body. I pull off his jumper as he eats his sandwich. I pull on the big dress that falls to my ankles. I frown at the fabric against my legs but I smile at him as I pull it up a little to sit back down.

"You look pretty," Miles smiles at me and I smile back just as I hear footsteps behind us. I don't react quick enough as they stand in front of us.

"Rogues," A man growls at Miles and I.

Miles quickly stands up as I stand closer to the tree. They move in front of us.

"We want no trouble. We are looking for Alpha Gray," Miles tells them truthfully as I stay behind him.

"You're in our territory. Come and speak to our Alpha," the man says and Miles nods.

"Of course,"he agrees.

"Sam, stay behind them. Jordan, in front with me," the man orders as one of the men waits for us.

Miles holds my hand tightly and he pulls me with him. The man called Sam walks behind me, and I feel his eyes glued to me, with a look of confusion.

I look at the ground as I trace the letter E on Miles's  hand. He moves me in front of him and stands behind me, blocking Sam's view of me.

"Where exactly are we?" Miles asks the man in front.

"You will see," he says as he walks ahead quickly.

I follow him with Miles behind me. We arrive in front of a huge house, with wolves running around the house. I move closer to Miles as people stare at us.

"Alpha is ready to meet you," the man says and we follow him inside the house. The eyes trail behind us but I try to shut it out as females and males look at me.

The man knocks on the door and a voice gives us permission to enter.

"Alpha, we found these two trespassing on our land," Jordan says as we follow them all inside. Sam follows us as the other man leaves.

I try to stand behind Miles as I feel Sam's eyes on me.

"Names?" The man asks without looking up from his desk.

"Miles and Emily." Miles answers him and the man looks up at me.

"Emily?" He asks and Miles nods as I tighten my hand around his, counting to a hundred in my mind.

"Full names?" The Alpha asks, looking at Miles.

I feel Sam's gaze on me as I stare at the ground.

"Sam get the fuck out. You're terrifying her," the Alpha suddenly growls and both of the men leave.

"Our names are only Miles and Emily," Miles answers again.

Miles did not know his full name but I had told him my name when I was really young. I had told him I had the longest name in the world and told him he could share it with me but he had said he liked that his name was short.

"Why are you on my land?" The Alpha asks as he stares at us both. I do not look up at him.

"We are looking for Alpha Gray." Miles tells him.

The man chuckles. "My sister's mate. Why?" He asks sitting up straighter.

I look up at him slowly as Miles looks at him confused.

"No. Alpha Gray," Miles says again and the man nods his head.

"Yes. He's my sister's mate. What do you need him for?" The man asks again and Miles whips his head towards me.

"Found them," he grins.

"What in the world are you talking about?" The Alpha asks.

"She's their daughter. Emily," Miles points towards me.

The Alpha curses as he looks at me.

"Emily Rose Perry Gray?" He whispers in shock and his eyes widen as he stares at me.

"Yes!" Miles answers and the man suddenly stands up.

He runs towards the door and pulls it open. "Dad!" He shouts as loud as he can, and I try not to flinch at his voice.

"You're the Alpha, Ashton. I'm not making any decisions for you," I hear another voice as it gets closer and closer.

"We found Emily!" He answers excitedly and suddenly I hear running before an older man enters the room looking at me with wide eyes.

I can't stop him as he runs towards me and hugs me tightly.

I freeze and close my eyes tightly. I stop breathing as he whispers my name.

Sunsets. Think of sunsets. I whisper to myself in my mind.

It was the one thing I remember from the outside world. The last day I truly felt at peace when I escaped and stood at a cliff. I watched the sun set and realised my life was terrible but I could change it.

I can't stop shaking as the man let's me go and Ashton the Alpha hugs me tightly.

"With no disrespect to you, I would advise you to let her go now," I hear Miles say calmly as I open my eyes.

I could never let a man hold me. Hug me or tell me sweet nothings like the books that I read. I would never be comfortable with any male touching me even if he did not have any bad intentions towards me. I was not safe around them.

The Alpha lets go of me as I take a step back, closer to Miles. I will never trust men, but I will trust Miles.

"I'll go ring Bethany and Jaxon," the older man says as he walks out of the room quickly, muttering something about a woman called Skylar.

"I can show you to a room. You both should rest," the Alpha says. Miles nods as he holds my hand. I follow them upstairs, ignoring the people staring at me with wide eyes.

She's his niece.

She looks so beautiful.

I want her black hair.

No, I want her blue eyes.

Do you think that is her mate with her?

He's hot.

People's thoughts float in my mind and I try to push them away,  as the Alpha opens the door to a room. Miles pulls me inside, thanking him and closes the door behind him.

I fall back onto the bed and sigh as I look up at the ceiling.

"I'm afraid they will not want me after you tell them what happened," I say as I stare up at the ceiling hoping I could disappear from the world.

"You should rest," Miles says as he walks to the bed and pulls the covers away, tugging me away as well. I roll my eyes at him as I sit up.

"I think I'm fine," I say to him and he chuckles.

"Rest and I'll bring you some food. You need the energy. I'll just tell them everything briefly. When you're ready, you can tell them yourself," he says and I nod as I climb into bed, after taking my shoes off.

"I think I need to have a shower," I say to him quietly and he sighs but nods.

"Could you rest first? And then I'll come back upstairs later and then you can have a shower?"he says and I nod as I sit up straighter.

He smiles at me and heads towards the door.

"Miles," I call out his name. He turns around to look at me. "Will you come back?" I ask softly.

"Yes. Always." He smiles at me and walks out of the room leaving me with silence.

Miles is so perfect in my mind that I can't find anyone to match his face. So he's a beautiful faceless soul.
