Chapter 27

(a/n): So these next couple chapters are going to be revolved around Obi-Wan and won't really be significant to the main plot. I just wanted to give him an interesting sort of side-plot and I think it'll be fun :)))

(y/n) POV:

"Wait, so you're serious about finding someone for Obi-Wan?" I asked Anakin who was sprawled out on his bed, laying on his back, while I was putting my hair in two french braids.

He told me about Obi-Wan's own experience in the love department, which surprised me since he typically tries to be a rule follower. Though to be fair, he does often stray from protocol, especially on missions.

Then Anakin said that he wanted to set Obi-Wan up with someone, and at first I thought he was joking, but now I'm pretty sure he's being serious.

I saw him nod at me from the mirror I was looking into to see my braids, "Dead
serious. Obi-Wan needs to lighten up and really learn how to have fun again. Besides," He hopped off of the bed and sauntered over to me so he could grab my hips from behind, and pull my body against his front, "I think we need a distraction from everything else going on in our lives, so what do you say?"

I almost laughed, not because I don't want to do this, but because I never took Anakin for the type of person to be a wingman. He was right though, this would be a healthy and fun distraction from all the worrying we've been doing lately. It seems like every time we solve a problem, another one pops up out of nowhere.

And if we do this, it'll also distract me from feeling sorry for myself which is all I've been doing lately.

I nodded and spun around to face him, "I'm not sure how this is gonna work, but I think it'll be fun." I smiled up at him and intertwined our fingers.

He playfully scoffed, "Trust me, this is going to be a piece of cake." He said it as if I had no reason to be doubtful.

I rolled my eyes at Anakin's signature cockiness and released our fingers, "Alright Casanova, what's your genius plan?" I teased him.

A sly smile formed on his lips as he crossed his arms confidently, causing me to raise an eyebrow as I silently urged him to say what he was thinking. "Well.....This will make more sense after I explain it but, let's just say that in a few days, we're going to have Obi-Wan be the bachelor of Coruscant."

Obi-Wan POV: (Finally🥰)

I laid back in the co-pilot seat of our speeder, relaxing since Anakin was the one doing the flying. I was quite irritated, though, because (y/n) and Anakin practically dragged me onto this ship without logical reason. All I presumably know is what I heard from (y/n) which is: "There's a serious problem at the Senate building."

And that was it. No context, no plan, and I don't believe they went over this with the Council either.

I reluctantly agreed to join them because of how urgent this sounded, but since they're not revealing what the problem is, I'm left here to worry until we get there.

I sighed and sat up in my seat, turning fully  towards Anakin, "Do you mind telling me what your plan is so that we don't blindly waltz into an ambush?" I asked, making the annoyance in my voice abundantly clear.

Though he was trying to hide it, I could faintly see him wanting to smile for whatever reason, "Trust me, Obi-Wan. There won't be any ambushes. And our plan is just for you to follow our lead. Right (y/n)?" He turned his head to look behind to where (y/n) was standing.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and looked over at (y/n), who was also doing a terrible job at concealing an obvious smile, "Yep. Just trust us."

I scoffed, and looked back and forth between them even more confused than before. Something didn't seem right about this, "I don't understand. You two made it seem like this was an urgent mission, so why can't you tell me anything?"

This time Anakin's smirk revealed itself, "Now, where would be the fun in that? I thought you always enjoyed challenges, Obi-Wan."

At this point I'm confident that they're purposely making this difficult for me, which isn't a surprise. I know them too well to realize when they're pulling my leg. (y/n) and Anakin aren't exactly the best at keeping secrets, and I would know.

I stood up and crossed my arms, "Alright, out with it. What are you both up to this time?" (y/n) tilted her head and gave me an innocent look that I could tell was fake, "What do you mean?"

Anakin was still smiling but kept his gaze forward as we approached the large Senate building, which I've been to more times than I can count over the years. "Well," I chuckled humorlessly, "You're both acting very cheerful about this supposed problem." I observed, emphasizing the word 'problem' since I don't believe there actually is one.

(y/n) smiled this time, "You've got it all wrong. I'm just turning over a new leaf, and trying to be more positive during tough times." She said, like it was blatantly obvious.

Anakin snickered from where he still was looking ahead, and ran his fingers through his hair, "There's a lot in our lives to be positive about, wouldn't you say, (y/n)?" His suggestive tone confused me further, and I didn't know what they were talking about anymore.

She walked over to stand in the spot between our two seats, and patted me on the back suddenly, " Oh yes. And that's why we're asking you to trust us, Obi-Wan." She looked down at me, "You'll see what we're talking about as soon as we enter that building." She pointed forwards to where the Senate building became larger as we proceeded to land in front of it.

I was at a loss for words or any protestations now, as I knew they wouldn't tell me anything until I followed their little 'plan'. I groaned and pinched the bridge of my nose in frustration, "Fine. As long as you tell me what you're up to when we get there." I pointed at them warningly.

They looked at each other in a way that seemed as if they were silently communicating, and then nodded at me simultaneously. I sighed and stood up as soon as the ship landed to let down the ramp. Now that we're here, I wanted nothing more than to finally see what was going on, since I was still extremely puzzled. I'm a naturally patient person in general, but it was the fact that they definitely did something that made me slightly nervous. As much as I trust them, (y/n) and Anakin have always been an enigmatic dynamic duo ever since they were kids; no one ever knows what they're up to, and they somehow get away with everything.

Everything, including snogging during missions.

I remembered how shocked I was when I walked in on them, but that was because I assumed my suspicions were too far-fetched. And after I thought about every inconsistency that occurred involving them, I realized that them being in a secret relationship makes sense. I could never bring myself to expose them; I care deeply about my closest friends and I believe that is more important than the Jedi code.

I ran ahead of them and into the large entrance of the double doors, not wanting to waste anymore time.

"Obi-Wan, hold on!" (y/n) called.

I ignored her and kept jogging, finding it strange that nobody was in the halls I ran through. Were the people here hiding from something? I could sense many life forms, but there was nothing in sight. I did a quick check of some office and communications rooms I passed, in case I was missing something. But they were all empty and eerily silent. Slight panic began rising in my chest as my brain formulated the worst possible conclusions for this strange emptiness. I ran down another hall and stopped in front of a larger door, where I could now heavily sense people nearby.

I quickly opened the door, knowing that Anakin and (y/n) were close by since I could faintly hear their footsteps, and walked inside the room.

To say I was surprised is a complete understatement. I didn't even realize that this was the Senate ballroom, until I gazed in awe at the elegant space and architecture. I noticed then, the hundreds of other people in this room. I didn't know at all what to make of this, since none of these people seemed to be in any danger.

The footsteps behind me approached and grew louder with each step, until I felt two hands grab my shoulders. I spun around and huffed irritably, "What is going on?"

(y/n) laughed at my reaction, slightly out of breath, "Welcome to your bachelor party!" She gestured out to the room full of people, and added quietly, "Even though you're not married."

I furrowed my brows in confusion once more, "My what?"

I looked over to Anakin for some sort of explanation, but he just nodded while smiling proudly. Just the same as the whole ride here, I was utterly confused and lost with this situation. "Is there really a problem here, or was that a lie?" I asked, slowly putting the pieces together.

Anakin shrugged, "Yeah, sorry but we had to get you over here somehow. A few days ago, (y/n) and I asked Senator Amidala to arrange a gathering for single people who need to get back in the saddle." He winked and nudged me suggestively, making me remember him saying those words the other night.

Now it all makes sense.

Realization hit me quickly as I learned that this whole 'mission' was solely a set up for myself.

I sighed and shook my head, "I cannot believe the two of you." For once, I was surprised that they did something like this for me. That didn't mean that I agreed with it, but I was genuinely impressed with this turnout.

I crossed my arms and looked between them, "Even if I wanted to do this—which I don't—what about the Council finding out?" I asked skeptically, assuming that there must be some flaw in this plan that could create a major slip up.

(y/n) smirked and waved her hand dismissively, "We didn't tell them, so it's not even a thing."

I rolled my eyes at myself; I should've seen that coming, "Of course you didn't. So what do you expect me to do now?" I asked, gesturing back to the people that were all engulfed in conversation.

Once again, I did not want to do this. But I may as well humor my friends and not let their efforts go completely to waste, considering they did put all of this together for me.

(y/n) giggled excitedly and unexpectedly pulled me by my arm fully inside of the room before I could stop her. "You're going to mingle with some of these lovely people, and hopefully we can find you a match by the end of the night." She declared optimistically.

I rolled my eyes once more as she continued dragging me through the room, "You make it sound as if I'm a princess about to meet possible suitors." I pointed out.

She turned her head back to look at me and still smiled, "And that's exactly what you'll be tonight, Princess Obi-Wan." She pulled me into the middle of the room next to a large, elegant fountain. I cringed at the nickname but didn't try arguing any further and waited for what she had to say next, so I could be done with this quicker.

I'm not planning on forming another romantic attachment, not after the last time. It's difficult enough being a Jedi with the very strict Code, but I personally also don't see a need for romance anyways. If anything, all it does is cause pain and unnecessary distraction.

"Look around for someone you might want to talk to, or someone who at least seems interesting." (y/n) nudged my elbow.

"And what if no one wants to converse with me?" I countered, hoping she'd see some sort of reason that this wasn't a good idea.

Instead, she just patted my shoulder, "Ah come on Obi-Wan, you're not that old yet to be avoided at parties."

I gave her a stern glare but then sighed and crossed my arms as I boredly scanned the mildly packed ballroom. I spotted Anakin for a short moment by the food table collecting cookies—which isn't surprising—before my view of him was blocked by more people walking by.

No one looked more interesting than the next average person. Everyone in the room seemed cliquish and exclusive; as if they were desperate for that type of reputation. I could sense in them a desire for approval and attention. I was quite shocked that these are the people Senator Amidala invited, considering how she is the exact opposite of how they are behaving.

I was about to give up at looking through the crowds of pretentious people when something suddenly caught my eye about twenty feet in front of me. I saw someone: someone that I was surprised to have not seen the first time I scanned the room. But this person wasn't just any average person like the rest of the people in the room. This person was standing alone, not in a clique or engaged in petty gossip.

It was a man, a rather gorgeous man too, which I never thought I'd be thinking about someone of the same gender. He held a plastic cup which was almost empty, and traced his thumb up and down the side of it absentmindedly. He had jet-black curly hair, and the smoothest looking almond skin. From my angle, and from the way he stood alluringly still, staring off into the distance, anyone might think he was just a sculpture.

I could hear his thoughts too; he was nervous to be here, and was doing his best to not embarrass himself. I almost chuckled, not in a bad way, but at how strangely adorable his nervousness was.

"Who is that?" I asked breathlessly to (y/n), who instantly snapped out of her thoughts. I could sense her trying to follow where my eyes were looking, and in my peripheral vision, I saw her eyes widen as she gasped happily. Her reaction told me that she already knew who this man was, especially as she clapped her hands together.

"That," She pointed right at the man, "is my friend, Elijah."

(a/n): I don't know about the rest of you guys but for me it's been one of those weeks where I'm just constantly tired all the time😩

I'm glad to have finished this though, and I'm having fun with it! I'm determined to make Obi-Lijah a thing🥰
