Chapter 23
TW: Sexual content and mention of death. Otherwise, carry on :)
(y/n) POV:
"I call the co-pilot seat!" I pushed past Anakin and Obi-Wan and raced into the ship as soon as the ramp opened for us. I heard Anakin groan behind me followed by Obi-Wan chuckling at us. He was going to be the pilot today, so Anakin would have to sit in the back.
I laughed deviously and as I sat down and waited for them to get into the cockpit. I looked over my shoulder as they finally entered at a leisurely pace and closed the ramp, "Took you long enough, you both have the speed of an old man with a broken hip."
Anakin rolled his eyes and sat in the first seat at the back of the cockpit, and Obi-Wan just shook his head. "You two are such children sometimes."
Anakin snapped his head up and gave Obi-Wan an offended look, "Hey! I didn't do anything that time."
Obi-Wan didn't respond but gave me a small smirk and walked over to the pilot seat. I smiled and shook my head in amusement. Just like me, he gets a kick out of annoying Anakin which is something that is probably going to be constantly happening on this mission. I unintentionally giggled out loud at the thought of Anakin having to deal with Obi-Wan and I doing something mischievous like pretending that we're going to send him into Ryloth alone.
"And just what are you laughing at?" I heard Anakin ask from where he sat in the back.
"Oh nothing." I said innocently while still smiling.
I could sense his temper shortening at mine and Obi-Wan's attitudes and it just entertained me even more.
"What should we do first when we get to Ryloth?" I asked.
Obi-Wan fiddled with the control panel as he was about to start the ship, "Well, it would be best if we didn't make a grand entrance upon our arrival. I'm hoping we can find a way to lure this assassin to us without them knowing that we're there."
I nodded and leaned back in my seat as I considered what we could do. I kept assuming that this would be easy if it was just one assassin but honestly, we never know with this war. We think it's one thing and then we get surprised to learn that it's actually something else. So I don't want to get too confident just yet, which is definitely more than Anakin can say.
He's most likely planning to make a grand entrance which is the exact opposite of what Obi-Wan wants. But then again, that might be the exact reason he does it.
Sometimes I wonder how the three of us have managed to even complete our missions because of how often we banter or divert from the rules. But I don't mind it, because it makes the missions more exciting as opposed to how dull they would be if we just followed protocol all the time.
I decided to take a short nap until we got there, because we would probably need all the energy we had depending on how long this mission takes.
Time skip~
I was awakened by a smack on the top of my head, and my eyes shot open wide to see Obi-Wan standing over me from where I sat.
"Rise and shine! We've landed on the outskirts of the city." He said in an annoyingly cheerful tone.
I blinked up at him in disbelief, still adjusting to my surroundings after being woken like that.
"Did you have to hit me? You could've just shook me awake like a normal person." I grumbled while rubbing the spot he hit on my head.
He shrugged and walked over to the middle of the ship to open the ramp, "I tried many times but you were out cold. Just be happy that I didn't pour water over your head like Anakin suggested."
I glared at Anakin who was standing next to Obi-Wan and shrugged innocently at me.
"Really?" I asked with an unamused expression.
He grinned, "Oh come on, you would've done the same thing."
I was about to protest but then stopped because I knew he was right. I definitely would've done that to him, and laughed about it for the rest of the day.
I sighed and stood up out of my seat, "Whatever, let's just come up with a plan for how we're going in there."
Obi-Wan nodded and wiped his auburn hair out of his eyes, "Well, as I said earlier, it would be best for us to not make a grand entrance." He shot Anakin a look that said 'I'm talking about you.'
I snickered and watched as Anakin crossed his arms indignantly, "Why are you looking at me?" He asked defensively.
I answered before Obi-Wan could, "Maybe because you're the epitome of an absolute lurid spy." I sassed.
He clenched his jaw at my remark and was no doubt preparing a cacophony of insults to throw at me, but Obi-Wan interceded before we could start bickering.
"Anyways," He rolled his eyes, "I believe we should start by splitting up and asking the residents where the deaths have occurred to see if there are any patterns."
I hummed in agreement. Most of this mission should be easy aside from actually finding this assassin. We'd have to be extremely lucky to spot him in the next place he plans to make a kill. But I also think that splitting up would make it faster since we can cover more ground that way.
"I agree, and we should get going as soon as possible. The more time we spend here, the more time this assassin has to make his next kill."
Anakin leaned against the wall and fiddled with his nails, "Well, while you guys do that, I bet I can use my charismatic charms on the ladies to get us some information of interest."
I rolled my eyes and bit back another insult while Obi-Wan shook his head half-heartedly, and put a hand on Anakin's shoulder.
"The problem with that plan of yours, my friend, is that you must actually posses charisma and charm to be able to accomplish something like that." Obi-Wan smirked and began to move towards the controls that open the ramp.
I laughed out loud at Anakin's bewildered expression from Obi-Wan's insult, and it was even funnier that he didn't have anything to say in response. It was a welcoming sight to see his bursting pride being shoved down his throat like that, especially from Obi-Wan.
Once it opened, I jogged down the ramp and unintentionally kicked up some dust when I jumped to the dirt ground. The town wasn't too far from where we were. We landed in a good enough spot that we could easily get over there, but also so that the presence of our ship wasn't too obvious to anyone who might be able to see it.
Obi-Wan and Anakin took their time getting down the ramp as usual, so I decided to go ahead of them.
"Later, Grandpas!" I called over my shoulder as I sprinted towards the town, my long ponytail flying behind me in the process as well as my brown robe.
Once I got close enough, I stopped running and pulled my hood over my head so I wouldn't stand out too much. When I entered the town I felt my stomach drop in disbelief. There were people everywhere. This assassin could easily blend in with these crowds, which is probably why they chose this area to make the attacks. I sighed and tried to stay optimistic as I searched for someone who looked approachable that I could talk to. I spotted a blue female Twi'lek who stood behind a counter, probably selling fruits. She wore a long yellow dress with a yellow bandana on her head to match. I walked over to her since one else was near, so there was less of a chance of being heard by anyone.
"Excuse me? Hi!" I waved and got her attention. She looked startled but then waved back cautiously.
"Don't worry, I'm a Jedi." I held my hands up defensively. Some people aren't too big fans of the Jedi because of the war but I was confident that the people of Ryloth were okay with us.
She still looked wary but nodded and began to relax. "What can I do for you? Are you buying anything?"
I shook my head and stood in front of her, looking around in case there were any cameras. I leaned in a bit closer and lowered my voice so that I was almost whispering, "I'm here because of the consistent deaths that have been reported. Could you tell me where the most recent ones have taken place?"
She scratched her head in thought and looked behind me for a moment. Then her eyes widened and she nodded, "Actually, there is a home that is currently vacant where at least the last two deaths took place. I believe some people attempted to find the murderer but ended up dying in the process."
She shook her head solemnly at the mention of her fallen people. I gave a sympathetic smile, but I still felt horrible for all the people here that lost friends or family from this assassin. Nonetheless, I nodded gratefully at this valuable information.
"Thank you for telling me, it helps more than you know. Could you point me in the direction of this vacant building?"
She nodded and looked behind me again to point in that direction, "It's on the outskirts of this town, and it's the very last building. You'll know which one it is when you see it."
I took in her words and nodded as I thought about what to do next. I should probably contact Anakin and Obi-Wan to let them know what I've learned. I've been lucky so far, and I hope it stays that way for when we find the killer.
"Thanks again!" I smiled warmly and jogged away in the path that she pointed me towards. The people I passed by gave me strange looks, probably because they didn't recognize me. This was a small town so I assumed that everyone knew each other, and most likely no outsiders went unnoticed. I pulled my hood further over my head and walked faster, not wanting to cause an uproar with these citizens.
Before I could reach for my comlink, I began to feel a presence nearby. It got closer and closer and I didn't bother turning around because I already knew who it was. I felt a hand graze across my lower back ever so lightly, just barely touching me. Anakin appeared next to me and pulled his hood over his head.
"Where are we going?" He asked.
"I was given the location of the last two deaths, so I figured we could start there. It's risky but I was thinking maybe we could use some people as bait to lure the assassin back." I explained.
He nodded and began to smirk mischievously while still looking forward. I narrowed my eyes in confusion, because that's not the reaction I was expecting.
"What's that look?" I asked.
He glanced at me and cleared his throat dramatically, "Oh, I just thought you should know that three Twi'lek girls have told me how handsome and brave I am. And I've barely been here for more than ten minutes."
I rolled my eyes and diverted my gaze forward again. I knew he was trying to make me jealous so I would make the first move on him. But Anakin's cockiness is so thick that he doesn't even know that the jealousy tactic doesn't work on me. He may be overprotective and possessive at times, but that's how I know that I don't need to be jealous.
I smirked as I looked forward, because I could feel his gaze on me, "Good for you, for once you actually got some people to tell you what you want to hear."
In my peripheral vision I saw his smile drop and he huffed in frustration. I laughed through my nose at his reaction as we continued to walk onwards.
He sighed, "Okay, fine. But have you forgiven me yet? And I'm not asking for me, I'm asking because bitterness provokes wrinkles. And I don't think you want to look seventy in your twenties."
I was surprised by his bluntness and turned towards him again and rose my eyebrows in amusement. He shrugged but still held a smug expression. He was expecting me to say yes, but he also knew that I might say no. It was amusing to me how often he thought that everything would always go his way. I took advantage of that and decided to answer with something that I knew would set him off.
"Maybe." I winked at him and sped up my pace so I could leave him in the dust and get inside the building first.
The lady at the booth was right; I knew exactly which building was the vacant home. I knew because it wasn't decorated like the others and there were no lights on inside. It was also the very last home on the path that we took.
I heard Anakin's footsteps follow behind me shortly after I got inside. I scanned the room for any life forms or security cameras, but thankfully didn't see any. There didn't seem to be any sort of bombs either, which I know is a big thing to assume but we can never be too careful.
"Hey Anakin, what should we do first to get the assassin back here?" I asked after I heard him shut the door. I didn't hear a response right away so I turned around and stepped back when I saw him practically stomping towards me; fervent emotions were radiating off of him as his blonde curls bounced above his blue eyes.
Anakin pushed me by my chest so that my lower back hit the edge of a table, and then reached around me to grab my thighs.
"What are you do—" He stopped my words by crashing his lips into mine and roughly shoving his tongue in my mouth, all while heaving me off of the ground by my thighs so he could sit me on the table. The vigorous action surprised me and I didn't react in time to be able to regain any control.
"Stop talking." He commanded between kisses.
I felt a jolt of arousal slither through my abdomen at his assertive side, which he knows always turns me on. I was glad to be sitting because my knees definitely would've turned into jelly by now. I grabbed his neck in my hands and smirked against his mouth, feeling victorious.
"I knew you would break first."
When he heard my thought, he gripped my hips tightly and pulled me forward so that his body was between my legs. Waves of pleasure rolled through me and the feelings of it were more intense than they've ever been.
"Anakin..." I breathed out.
He abruptly pulled away from my lips and forcefully grabbed my jaw in his gloved mechanical hand, "I said." He leaned in closer to me and held my jaw tighter so that I couldn't lean away, "Stop. Talking. Don't make me say it again."
My heartbeat increased to the point where I could feel it pounding against my chest, as my body succumbed to Anakin's dominance. He knew I was enjoying this, and was using that fact to regain the power he lost by starting this. I still found it entertaining at how easily I could crush his arrogance—which not many people can do—and get him right here in this position with me. Us being intimate with each other in this way, when we were both irritated and passionate for each other at the same time, made our relationship much more exciting. This was our favorite way to show each other how we felt, and we both loved every second of it.
I obeyed, and nodded once in understanding. His emotionless expression stayed the same as he studied me intently, and loosened his hold on my jaw. Despite his hollow features, I knew that this was driving him crazy. He was aching for me and I relished in the sweet knowledge that he wanted me and only me.
It was still evident to us both that there was a killer on the loose, and that it was our job to stop him, yet here we are. It was a bit concerning at how we just couldn't help ourselves even when people's lives were currently in our hands, but we were too intoxicated with each other to care.
He reached his hands around me to grab my behind again and started softly kissing my throat, and then suddenly started devouring the side of my neck like a hungry animal. I did my best to hold in any sounds of pleasure, which was more difficult than I thought. I bit my bottom lip to keep as quiet as I could while he proceeded to violate every sweet spot on my neck and jawline.
But of course, all good things came to an end
when they barely started. We heard the door opening and closing quickly and before we could pull away from each other, the person already saw us.
"There you two are, I was starting to—"
Anakin and I instantly moved from the table and stood rigidly side by side, even though we knew we weren't quick enough.
The pit of my stomach became hollow with dread as I braced for the incoming backlash I believed was sure to come. Anakin and I acted foolishly, and stupidly. We could've been so much smarter but as usual, we just couldn't help ourselves. Holding eye contact with the stunned man in front of us, I exhaled the breath I was holding in and laughed awkwardly to break the silence that followed upon the unexpected entrance, "Hey, Obi-Wan....How's it going?"
(a/n): Okay soooo that took an unexpected turn at the end
