"I can't believe you almost threw up on the Ferris wheel," I giggled at Scott as we linked arms.
He laughed at the remark. "Well it was your fault for suggesting we buy all those doughnuts. I'm still stuffed!"
The fun fair had come to town and as a surprise Scott had bought us wristbands, giving us free passes to any ride for an unlimited number of times. It didn't matter that the day was gloomy or that dark clouds had permanently covered the sun. To me, it was perfect.
I giggled, just as a light drizzle began to patter against out rain macs "Well, you agreed to it!"
He laughed again at my cheeky expression, tilting his head back to reveal the dimples in his cheeks. This laugh of his was my favourite. "Point well made, Cooper," he said before kissing the top of my nose.
Together, we trudged through the wet mud which was embedded in the grass and determined to cling onto our shoes, as we wandered through the rest of the fair. The air was cold; nipping at the skin on my hands and face, but Scott's close presence warmed me.
Around us, various stands stood with flashing lights that were advertising different games or foods. The strong scent of fried sugar and cotton candy filled my nose, followed by the smell of hot dogs, causing my mouth to water.
"Look!" I pointed in a particular direction. "Over there -" Immediately, a large gust of wind cut me off before I could even finish my sentence. The force of it blew back the hood of my rain mac; scattering my hair in all directions. I tried to smooth it down with the help of Scott. "Just my luck," I muttered, feeling more than slightly píssed. I hated it when the weather fucked with my hair.
My boyfriend quickly pulled me over to a bench (which was mostly dry), before sitting me down. Then he leaned in close and began to rearrange my hair.
"Mmm, you smell nice." I told him as I inhaled his scent -- a habit of mine that I couldn't resist. He smelt of an exotic spice mixed with mint -- the scent of his favourite shampoo.
"You always say that," he told me with a grin as he continued to sort out my stray strands of hair. I could still smell the sugary scent of the doughnuts we'd eaten not that long ago on his breath. As he firmed down the last strands, I couldn't help but noitce his adorable frown, before he leant back.
"You're good to go."
I kissed him.
"What were you going to say before you got distracted?" He asked once we'd stood together, hand in hand.
I pointed to a stand not too far away from where we were stood with my other hand, messy hair almost forgotten. "I was going to say look over there." He followed the direction I was pointing towards just as I began to jump on the spot. "There's candyfloss!" I explained in case he didn't already know. Which of course he would seeing as he had eyes
As he saw the stand he began to groan. "More food?" I knew he was joking, of course. If anyone knew I had a huge appetite it was him. Luckily, he didn't seem to care.
I pouted, swatting his arm with my hand. "Please? I'll eat your share if you want..." I sent him a cheeky look to let him know I was half joking.
He laughed again, the sound giving me pleasant chills. "You're insatiable," he told me before zipping up his coat. "Fine. Wait here, I'll be right back."
I stood where I was, admiring the view as he walked away.
People strolled by, not giving me a second glance as I watched them closely.
What kind of lives did these people have? I wondered. Were they happy or hiding behind masks?
What did they see when they saw me?
When my phone pinged from inside my pocket I swiftly pulled it out to see I'd been sent a new text message.
Got some latest goss for you: Mandy is back with Kieran!
Another ping alerted me to a second message.
By the way, how's the date going? Done some naughty stuff yet? ;) - L
It was from Layla, my best friend.
I was about to reply when Scott walked towards me, carrying two sticks of cotton candy in his hands. His grin wavered the minute he saw my phone. "Come on, Hay," he groaned. "Can't we have just one date with no drama?"
My fingers froze, hovering over my keypad as I considered. I could always text her back later when I was at home. She'd be pissed at not getting a reply straight away, but I didn't care.
Turning my phone off, I put it carefully back into my pocket toake sure it wouldn't fall out. "Of course we can," I told him. Leaning towards him, I took one of the candy sticks from his hands and ate a giant mouthful. "God, this is so good. Thanks for buying it."
When we finished eating we threw our sticks away and went searching for more rides to go on. The drizzle was beginning to lighten until it was just the occasional droplet or two, which I was thankful for.
Suddenly spotting a mini merry-go-round and pointed towards it. "There! Let's go." I tugged on his arm, dragging him forwards as h
"Yup." I carried on pulling him until we were at the back of the 'queue' which consisted of two young children stood with their elderly grandmother and what looked to be a toddler sat in a pram eating a huge lolly, stood behind them.
"I'm embarrassed for us right now," he teased me as we waited for the ride to slow. Despite his supposed 'humiliation' he still hadn't moved.
Unconcerned, I shrugged and clutched onto his arm to latch myself to him. "It'll be fun!" I promised him as he watched the merry-go-round with a cautious expression. The mud seemed to be devouring more of my boots by the second which I tried not to focus too much on.
Finally, the ride stopped and we climbed on.
Ignoring the way the ride operator looked at us, I hopped onto a bright blue unicorn just as Scott sat in small a carriage a few places behind me.
"Aw, come and sit in here with me!" He shouted ahead, despite not being too far behind. "It's cute!"
I turned my head, noticing the way his legs were poking out with barely enough room for another person to sit beside him and laughed. He looked like an idiot. "In your dreams, stud!" I shouted back. "I have the unicorn." The grin on my face at that point may have shifted into a smirk but I won't focus on that.
"The unicorn, eh?" He actually crossed his arms. "Fine!"
When the ride began I had to swallow down another laugh.
The other kids looked to be enjoying themselves just as much as I was, fortunately enough. The young mother with the empty pram gave me a weird look as I let out another happy, 'woo!' But I didn't care.
"Enjoying yourself?" I giggled back to Scott as the ride kept spinning.
I heard him snort. "You could say that."
When it ended we climbed off; I grabbed his hand the minute my feet touched the ground before pulling him to me. "Maybe we should go again?" I asked him, hopefully. The rise had been strangely fun.
His face scrunched up into a grimace as he shook his head. "God, no. I don't think I could take any more of that damn music."
I pouted. What was wrong with the music? "Fine... But that means you have to stay the night." Not exactly subtle, but I didn't care.
He looked down at me, fondness evident in his eyes as he squeezed my hand in response. "Deal."

It was getting dark when we finally let ourselves in.
I lived with my parents in a quirky five bedroom cottage not too far from the university, which meant that I didn't feel the need to stay in a dorm. My parents and I had lived in it for around three years; before that we'd lived in London -- the posh end of course. That had been an experience.
My favourite feature of the cottage had to be the ivy, which was leisurely snaking its way up the front of the house; expanding each summer. It gave the cottage character, and certainly made me feel like our home wasn't just an ordinary one which was settled on the outer edges of Hertfordshire.
Little white flowers would also always bloom in April; sprouting from the vines, which I loved. They were really cute.
"Hello?" I called out. There was no response.
The hallway was dark.
As Scott stepped in, he shut the door behind him, erasing all sounds of faraway traffic. My parents must've been out working late as usual, which was something they'd being doing more frequently over the past few months, giving us the house to ourselves. Not that I cared.
I tugged off my coat and flung it over a hook, watching as Scott undid his. "Want some help with that?" I asked him in a sultry whisper, suddenly feeling the need to be close to him. After the day we'd had I wanted nothing more than to spend some quality time with him in my bed -- something that I felt most days.
He stopped and stood watching me with caution before a playful look crossed his features and he grinned. "No, but if you're offering..." He held his arms out either side if him.
Wasting no time, I quickly stepped over to him and took my time pulling down the zip before undoing the felt clasp underneath his chin. His eyes grew wider as I threw the coat on top of mine before cupping his face in my hands and bringing my lips just centimetres from his. I stood on my tiptoes, keeping my face close as I whispered, "Anything else you want help with?" My lips brushed against his as soft as the whisper and he closed his eyes before leaning his forehead against mine.
"Where did this come from?" He asked me. I ignored him and stayed where I was, knowing he already knew the answer. Sometimes I had needs. "Well, I suppose there's one more thing you could help me with..." He said before kissing me.
My eyes flashed as I placed a hand over his lips and quickly reminded him,"No sex."
"No sex," he repeated with the shadow of a smirk.
I kissed him back with more fervour and pushed myself up against him with all I had.
Pulling back, he grabbed my shoulders and forced me against the wall before burying his face in the crook of my neck and nipping at the delicate skin. I tilted my head, allowing him better access, before fumbling with the buttons on his shirt. Immediately he stopped me, his pupils large as he pulled back again and stared into my eyes.
"When will your parents be back?" He asked.
I wracked my brain for a coherent answer over my arousal. "Not for a few hours at least." They were never back early.
That seened to be enough for him.
Wrapping my legs around his waist, he lifted me up and carried me up the stairs. On the landing, he kicked open my bedroom door and pushed me onto the bed before lying on top of me, supporting his weight with his arms. I fumbled with his jeans, anxious to get them off so that we could at least lie chest to chest, but he stopped me by grabbing my wrists and pinning them above my head. I let out a small groan of frustration.
He leaned forward until my lips brushed against my ear and whispered, "You're beautiful."
My insides tightened with anticipation. "You too," I whispered, my brain still cloudy with pleasure.
He let out a small chuckle. "That's good to hear."
I kneed him in the leg.
The next morning we got up at eight am sharp and I washed and dressed while Scott changed back into the clothes he'd worn the day before. Much to my displeasure, he left at half eight so that he could get ready for the lectures we had later that morning. I was a bit grumpy that he'd left before I'd had the chance to make us breakfast, but that had changed when he sent me a sweet message whilst walking on his way home.
When my phone pinged again I'd expected a reply from Scott. Instead I saw that it was only from Layla.
"Shit!" I'd forgotten to reply to her texts the night before with all the... activities. Oops.
Either you deliberately ignored me last night or the sex was that good you'd forgotten all about your poor best friend. - L
My cheeks turned a shade of pink. She was spot on, of course.
There was another ping which momentarily shattered the silence of the kitchen.
Get ready for a grilling bi-atch >;)
I hurriedly texted her back. We didn't have sex, and I'm sorry! See you on campus.
She sent another reply not long after. Is that so? Hmm...
I grinned, shaking my head slightly. Yes.
There was a few minutes' pause which I occupied by finishing up my breakfast and washing the plates; once those had passed there was another ping, as expected.
Forgiven, it read. I still want all the deets though. Love you. Mwah. XOXO
I shook my head and smothered a snigger even though no one else was in the house. Typical Layla. Messages like these were just one of the reasons as to why I loved her.
