Possible Second Chance

Title: Possible Second Chance

Author: NxnsxgnorsDxmon

Remember, this is just my review of the novel. There are many differing opinions and review styles and mine is just one of them. Here's a breakdown of the different components I included in my observation.

Score: 7/10

Title-I feel that the title lacks the sort of ambiguous hook that pulls readers in. It does a great job overall matching what the story is about, however.

Cover- The aesthetics of the cover reflects some of the themes in the novel. It is a bit dark, wracked with corruption, torture, and sexual deviants. All this takes place in an asylum, and for some reason green seems to be the appropriate color for that setting. I would tweak the font a bit, there's just something about it that doesn't go with the cover art.

Plot- The overall story line is very unique, earning this a decent score. We get a peek inside the minds of what are considered 'holy' men and women, which is not a point of view most people would explore. There is plenty of suspense, mystery, and a sort of tug of war between people of power in the church.

The actions of the characters are quite unorthodox and deviant from what would be expected of holy men and women. The sexual torture present in the story isn't for everyone and it is shocking, but it does well in it's role to expose the corruption of the asylum. The darkness of it has all the makings for a decent horror film.

The love story the author presents helps alleviate the harshness we get from the asylum, and does a wonderful job showing the development of the characters' relationship.

The story moves at an appropriate pace.

Characters- The characters play off one another well, and their interaction is fairly realistic. We see into their minds most of the time, which helps us understand them as readers. The bits of backstory are essential to building up the story line. They are all very unique individuals and the author does a good job putting them on paper, making them feel real.

Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation- The author has a very detailed style of writing and a good sense of vocabulary usage. I would say it's well balanced, not overly descriptive but not too unforthcoming. Spelling is on point and punctuation is well executed. There are a few areas where the word choice seems a little off or a word might be missing.  Also, a good amount of the sentences are very run-on and were very distracting for me. I would break some of those up into smaller ones. I think running it through Grammarly or a similar program would be helpful.

Overall, the story has the potential to be a wonderful horror or suspense film. I gave this the score I did because I see this working better in cinema than in writing, but the framework for it is well executed and planned to the detail. I think if the run on sentences were corrected and the sentences restructured a bit, it would be an 8/10. Good job conveying the dark/light balance in this work. It really does bring out all kinds of emotions in the reader.
