Chapter 3
Turning around I saw a small elderly woman standing behind the desk.
"Oh hello! I didn't see you there before. Our cars broken down and we were wondering if you had any spare rooms available for the night."
She shuffled over to the notebook on the desk and skimmed through it.
"We have two rooms. They are separate and not close together." She grunted as she pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose.
"We were hoping we could share but that's fine. Also do you have a phone we could use to make a quick call?"
She retrieved a black phone from underneath the desk and let Chloe make the phone call.
I spotted something move to the left of me but when I looked I could only see an open door way which seemed to lead into darkness.
As if noticing what I had seen she quickly turned and grabbed two keys from the stand behind her and put them down on the desk.
"You may pay me tomorrow. Breakfast will be served at eight am."
Heading off in a rush she reached the door and slammed it behind her with force.
"But we didn't catch your name?" Chloe looked at the door then to me and suggested we go and find our rooms.
Exiting the reception area we passed a picture of a bed and presumed the rooms must be this way. To the left was a door which looked like it would lead to an old hospital ward which I thought seemed very out of place here and continued to follow Chloe through a doorway to the right. A long dark corridor stretched out in front of us. Rows of doors lined the walls on either side.
"I'm in 12 and you're in 18. Let's get an early night so we can head off and find a petrol station in the morning." She handed me my set of keys and went to find her room.
"Sure, see you in the morning."
I walked past several rooms before reaching mine, seeing as the B&B was fairly booked up I thought it seemed odd at how quiet it was.
I had a slight feeling I was being watched but there was nobody around, Chloe had gone into her room and I couldn't see a single soul.
In front of me was a tall wooden door with the number 18 above it.
Putting my key into the lock I held onto the handle to open it and suddenly a strong gust of ice cold air hit me in the face. I looked around but couldn't locate where it had come from, there were no open windows in here.
The room was plain and simple, a small bed with a table and chair were all this room had to offer. It didn't seem very homely to me. A photo similar to the one I saw earlier was on the wall.
Couldn't they have used one of a pretty scenery?
I lay down on the bed which was fairly comfortable and got out my phone from my bag. There was still no signal, great!
I decided to try and get some sleep when I heard a quiet rapping on the door. Perhaps it was Chloe, she'd got lost when coming back from the toilet or something. I held onto the cold handle and slowly opened it, with each inch it creaked.
No one was there.
