For Love Doesn't Really Exist. (1)

D~v~n

Blow me to dust.
For love doesn't seem to exist anymore,
but weed will always.

A billion times, I had tried to look different - but never tried that much. Beth was agonisingly hard to please, I could tell. That wasn't even my fear. Beth was very blunt, she could admonish anyone for everything. She was everything I wasn't and had everything I didn't - A scholarship, common sense and, most importantly, the ability to walk away from me to another befitting guy. If that was what she called it. Unlike most of the girls I had met, Beth wasn't the one to die for a boy with curly hair and full lips. Or trip over the heir to, well, a lot of money. She was like the opposite of the 'Devon fantasy' - and my other fear was maybe that was the reason I still wanted her.

From curiosity to lust from lust to lust from lust to...

"Oh shut up Devon." I slapped my head right and removed the buttoned shirt "Whatever she thinks is her business."
I bit my lower lip and made a funny face at the mirror.

You got attracted to her ass first not her 'shining' hazel eyes like in all those love shit Halo makes you read.

I pulled on a new hooded jacket and a pair of ripped jeans. Halo peeked through the closet's door,

"Afraid I might see your..."

"Shut up."

"Hmmn--" Halo looked around the mess in my closet "--still not telling me who the 'goddess' is."

I frowned quizzically walking out of the closet. "I never did call her 'goddess'."

"Explain yourself trying out your entire wardrobe?" He narrowed a questioning look at me.

I smiled grabbing my keys before putting my arm around his shoulders. "She's just a little special." I waved my other arm in the air as if to draw a picture.

Slightly, he shrugged me off causing me to stagger. I grinned pulling my hoodie over my head in an attempt to hide the scar.

"Virgin?" He asked mischievously as we both made to jump out of the window.

"Shut the hell Halo and be quick remind your parents you don't deserve your name." I jumped down.

"How about Sunshine?!"

I smiled.

I parked right behind the orphanage. Unlike the stories I had heard, the orphanage didn't smell awful neither did it look likebprison. The bricks were grey and boys, on the balcony, were shirtless and, mostly, smoking out into the open. Wired gates enclosed the entire compound and........... Beth came into view. I became unsettled and looked down at my exposed torso, hesitating if to zip up or not. But I was too late.

"Seems to have drawn attention." Beth jumped over into the car and eyed me for a while. I eyed her back too. She looked simple but could definitely give anyone my age a boner with half her stomach on display and the skin of thighs exposed from her black ripped jeans. I took in  every detail - I just hoped it didn't offend her. Her ponytail was made into two large buns and hair fell from each side of her face.

"You look great." I said biting my lip. I held on the steering wheel and watched her trying to decipher her emotions.

"A lot of people said that."

I released the steering wheel and leaned back. "what don't a lot of people say?" I looked towards her waiting for an answer.

She smiled briefly before answering. "A lot."

I sighed, sitting up, surrendering to her tactics before igniting the car. Beth seemed impossible, infact she was. I bent over her laps to grab cigarettes from the glovebox. Her skin grazed against my face causing both of us to jerk away from each other. I smiled mischievously at the look on her face before grabbing two cigarettes and a lighter. I put a cigarette in between my lips and started to drive into the streets.

"Were you scared it was a rat?" I asked smiling. "Or my tongue?"

Her face scrunched up to show disgust and she pulled her phone out of pocket. She looked at it before sighing and looking out to the streets.

I quickly turned back to the road swerving away from an unexpected cyclist. "Bad joke?"

"Yeah." she replied in between soft laughs.

"Yeah, yeah. What's wrong?" I asked noticing her unease as she looked down at her phone again.

"My friends are not picking up."

"You worried?"

"Not about their whereabouts though."

I frowned quizzically. "You know Beth for a split second I thought you weren't going to show up."

"Me too."

I gave her an amused look before turning back to the road. "Really?"

"Hey. I wasn't scared you wouldn't show up instead I was scared I wouldn't."

We both smiled. I could tell from the corner of my eyes.

"However." I passed my lighter to her and tilted my head slightly towards her. "Help me with this. And please don't burn my face."
I looked to her side to catch a glance of her expression and I was pleased by what I saw. She was shaking her head and smiling. She leaned towards me flicking the lighter.

"I'm sure you wouldn't mind me leaving a scar on you."

I shrugged taking hold of the cigar in between my fingers. I sighted her turn away from the smoke and adjusted the cigar to the other side of my mouth. The ride was slow and quite entertaining; Beth wasn't such a snob. I learnt that she despised the fact that I skipped school, that she drank only a little, that she really liked successful people, that she hated my mom's decision just as much and I learnt that if I wanted someone as complex as her, I had to be quite slow with things.

I'm sorry for the short chapter.
I can't help it. I felt giddy about what's going to happen next. So I guess this a filler.
Please vote and comment. It means more than a lot to me.
