Chapter 18

Charlie's P.O.V.

I'm back at my place, Luke brought me there because we're going on a date.

He said I needed to wear something comfortable, so here I am, rumbling through my closet.

I can't deny that I'm pretty nervous, so I'm more thinking than searching for clothes.

Joy says I need to wear something simple yet stunning.

I end up wearing a light skinny jeans together with a Pink Floyd baseball tee. And ofcourse, as always, my black worn out Vans.

I decide to wear my hair down, it looks okay today, I guess.

I'm not really in the mood for a lot of make up, so I end up applying some mascara and lipbalm.

Not sure of how I look, I quickly rush over to Joy's room next door, I don't mind knocking.

She's on her bed, her laptop on the star-printed sheets.

"Do I look okay?" I whisper, not wanting Luke to hear me, eventhough he's in the living room.

"Where are you going on this time of the day?" She glances over to her watch, it's probably close to seven in the evening.

"Luke asked me out on a date and I'm butt nervous. So, do I look okay or not?"

She has a big grin on her face, making a sort of rape-face.

"You look absolutely fine, now go and have fun, but not too much." She winks, and I give her a not understanding look, turning away and leaving the room.

I step into the living room, finding Luke exactly where I left him, on the couch with his cellphone.

He is wearing his usual black skinny jeans with a hole in his right knee, a black DropDead tee and the same black Vans as me.

Not so usual is that he's wearing a wine red snapback, which suits him really well.

He notices that I'm staring at him, and he sends me a dorky face.

"Do you like what you're seeing?" He says, gesturing to himself on a girly way.

He lifts up his snapback, only to ruffle his hair and put it back on.

Why do you even fix your hair when it's tucked underneath it?

He grabs my hand and pulls me to him, in a some kind of hug.

"Have I told you bandshirts look very good on you?" He muffles into my hair, which makes it sound less audible.

I answer by looking up at him, raising my eyebrow.

He shrugs it off, pushing me to the door.

"Where are we going?" I ask, I kept asking about it but he won't release one single word. Or he really doesn't want me to know where we're going, or he hasn't made it up yet.

As expected, he keeps his mouth shut and takes his carkeys out.

The gentleman he is, he opens the door for me, which makes me do a 'skirt lifting bowing down' gesture.

...

The car ride takes pretty long, we don't talk.

Only listening to a playlist he has set up.

But it's not an awkward silence. It's more the kind of silence where you don't need to look at one another, or constantly touch eachother.

It's just the presence of the person that is enough to make you happy.

On a sudden moment, there comes up a song that I know way too well since last summer.

I Miss You from Blink-182.

I turn my head over to Luke, who has his eyes concentrated on the road.

I do see that he has a little smile playing on his face.

He too remembers.

It seems to be only last week that I was playing that song on my piano.

It was kinda awkward when three complete strangers were listening to my singing.

It's weird that I never heard of Blink before, they're a really good band and they sometimes have pretty goofy songs.

I mean, who makes a song about your grandpa 'fucking' you?

(They really have that song lol)

The car comes to a stop, which makes me automaticly look around.

I only spot a junkyard a little farther up, there's only some grass left.

Luke gets out and opens my door, immediately grabbing my hand, walking in the direction of the junkyard.

"What are we going to do there?" I ask, pointing over to the junkyard.

"You'll see." He smirks, walking a little faster.

When we enter the junkyard, we pass hundreds of rusted cars, all missing wheels or carrosery.

We maybe cross seven or eigth lanes of cars, when we come to an open place.

My jaw just litteraly dropped to the floor.

The headlights of some cars are pointed to a blue blanket, LED pannels of old cafés everywhere.

Around some bushes are draped fairy lights, it's truly beautiful.

The colored lights of the pannels shine on Luke's face, you can see he's pretty goddamn proud of it, and he really should.

"Sooo, d'ya like it?" He squeeks, still admiring his work.

"Are you kidding me? It's beautiful. When did you came up with this?" I question, taking up every detail of this fairytale place.

"I always wanted to do this with a special someone, but I never got the occasion to actually put it up. You know, because I never really had a special someone." He says, obviously blushing.

I think it's no need to be ashamed, I'd never came up with something like this.

Luke just keeps on amazing me, what's next? A song or something?

...

We've been sitting on this blanket for a good two hours now, talking about our past.

"... And that's how I got this scar on my leg." I laugh, pointing to my left leg.

"I never knew you were an explorer." Luke smiles, looking me deep in my eyes.

It's remarkable how interesting Luke's eyes are.

Light blue, yet, so warm.

They have a super shiny sparkle in them, like a pot of glitter was spilled over his eyes.

Once again, there's a silence between us.

We just sit here, staring into eachothers eyes, I can literally feel my stomach explode of happiness.

I realise I never said how much I liked him before.

I never said it to anyone, ever, to be honest here.

I swallow hard, nervous about how I'm going to say it.

"Luke?" I whisper, my voice pitched badly at the end of his name, kinda sounding like that High School Musical brat, Sharpay something.

He turns his head to me, nodding, giving me allowance to speak.

"I, uh, I never said this before to you and you have and, uh. Okay. Again." I take a new breath and restart.

"I love you. I really do."

His respons has cought me of guard actually, by passionately placing his soft lips onto mine.

He cups my right cheek in his left hand, using the other to support his weight, his right hand is next to me.

Luke leans further in, gently pushing his tongue against my lips.

I hessitate to let him in, which makes him groan a bit.

Our tongues fight eachother for dominance, yet playfully.

When we break the kiss, Luke is suddenly very shy.

He quickly looks away, blushing a bit, at his thoughts I guess.

I really wonder what's on his thoughts sometimes, because when I ask about it, he shrugs it off or tells me it's nothing to worry about.

"The fireworks are about to begin." He whispers, laying down on the fuzzy blue blanket. He puts his hands behind his head and crossed his legs.

I copy his movements, shuffling a bit so I lay closer to him.

Eventhough it's January and summer, I'm a little chilly. I hope I don't get sick or catch a cold.

My body suddenly shivers out of nowhere, making Luke turn his head to me.

"Are you cold?" He simply asks.

"No, I'm fine." I lie, I really don't want to be the annoying one who's always cold.

"Charls," he claims "you are. Come here."

He drapes his left arm over my shoulder, pulling me closer than I was to him.

I turn my upper body a bit to his, so I can lay a little more comfortable.

I place my right hand on his chest, and nuzzle myself into him.

His body heat flows over to me, it's incredible how warm he always is, as I said many times before.

As the fireworks begin to explode in the sky, Luke's gaze is focused on the colorful rays of light.

When I was younger, I never really liked fireworks, at fairs or with New Years.

Because I was scared of it, and nobody around me to protect me from it.

But when Joy once took me to the fair, she hooked her arm into mine, and told me I was safe with her.

Since then I always wanted to watch them, as long as I had someone who went along with me.

We both are intrigued by the rainbow colored lights filling the sky.

Our hearts are beating in the same rythym, perhaps blinking at the same time.

Luke's hand finds mine, entwining immediately from the second our fingers touch.

I could stay here forever, just watching the fireworks, a nice comfortable silence and a person who I could spend my whole life with.

I can't deny and say that my eyelids are almost closing, when Luke sits up.

"Let's go home." He smiles, still holding my hand.

He gets up and pulls me up also, making our way back to his car.

This time I open the door by myself, not that it bothers me.

When he closed his side of the car, he starts the engine and puts his seatbelt on.

What new is, is that he places his left hand on my right upper thigh.

I look over to him, seeing him focussed on the road already.

After a good ten minutes, he finally speaks up:

"You know, I was really happy when you said you loved me back there." He says, still his eyes fixed on the gray pavement. It's past one in the morning, but I don't feel tired.

"I could feel that, yeah." I laugh, earning a small smile from Luke.

"Can I ask you something?" He questions, squeezing my thigh gently.

"Ofcourse."

"How do you feel, you know, about us? Do you feel comfortable, or like, really nervous or do yo-"

"Luke," I cut him off "if you want to know what I think you don't have to be affraid to ask, I wont bite." I chuckle, waiting a bit to continue.

"To answer your question, I've never felt more comfortable around a boy before. It's like we know eachother for a really long time, despice it's only been five months. I couldn't been more happier with you, Luke." I answer, being two-hundred percent honest with him.

"That's, that's good to hear. I thought you didn't fell good with me or something like that. It was stupid to think." He shrugs. He's so nervous about something, I can't put my finger on it yet.

The car comes to a stop, I didn't realised we've already arrived at Luke's house.

I step out of the car, waiting for Luke to open the front door.

As I walk in, a nice breeze chills my skin, the airconditioning is still on.

"I'm going to take a shower, if that's okay." I state.

"Sure, make yourself at home." He winks, plopping himself on the couch.

...

The hot water helps my muscles to relax, I didn't really do anything today, but laying on the hard ground isn't exactly good for my back.

I'm putting all my thoughts on a line for a second.

You could say Luke reacted very well when I finally told him I loved him.

He was nervous when we were in the car, though.

Is he planning for something else?

Or do I just have a weird feeling about this?

Showers are a really good place for deep thoughts, for me atleast.

I realise I haven't rinsed myself yet, so I start doing that.

Luke has a few bottles of shampoo, I decide to smell them all.

I have showered here before, but I always forget which shampoo I like.

After a minute of shampoo reaking, I choose the apple scented one.

His hair always had the scent of apples, it calms me down on one way or another.

After rinsing my hair and body two times, I finally get out and dry myself.

These towels are so soft, my body can't even dry with these fluffy things.

When I look around the room, I really want to facepalm myself.

I forgot my pyjama's.

Bad thing is, the bathroom is attached to Luke's room, imagine if I went out without clothes and he randomly appeared..

I shake the thought off, and wrap the towel around me.

The cold, fresh air hits my skin from the second I step out of the steaming bathroom, which makes me hitch on my breath.

And that's not the only thing that makes me do that.

Luke is sitting on his bed, his eyes almost falling out of his sockets, staring at me.

"I, uh, forgot my, uh, uh, pyjama's." I stutter, feeling my whole face burn in shame.

I try to stick my arms behind my back, to cover the cuts from a few ago. They're still pretty deep and stitched up, but I removed the bandages because they were irritating my skin.

Unfortunately, Luke pulls me closer to him, making me drop on his lap.

He slowly looks up and down my right arm, inspecting every single inch of it.

"Don't ever do this to yourself, again." He mutters, every word interupted by a kiss placed on my arms.

I watch him placing kisses all over my arm, trailing up to my shoulder.

For a second, he stops and looks at me, with an emotion I always see when he looks at me.

He gets back to his trail of kisses, making his way to my neck, very slowly.

When he's at the spot right under my ear, he doesn't hesitate and bites on the soft skin.

I can't help but shriek at this new experience.

Did I just got a hickey?

A lot of time isn't here to overthink it, Luke has already placed his lips on mine and lingers there for a moment, before looking me in the eye again.

"Is this weird for you?" He shyly asks, with a raspy voice, may I add.

I shake my head a few times, really wanting him to continue.

And so he does.

But this time a little lower.

Soft, sweet, tender kisses are placed down my neck, leading to the edge of were my towel is.

His hand is now on my lower back, supporting it.

Just at the edge of the towel, he places one last kiss,

which makes me try to muffle my moan.

And I fail.
