Meeting The Platoon
Noctis
"What are you?" Mike asks.
What do I say? That is a specific question and hard to lie your way out of, so I just answer with a question instead, "What do you mean?"
"Don't pretend you don't know what I am talking about. I saw you get clawed in the stomach and back, but there are no wounds. There are only scars there now."
"Let it go Mike," I warn.
"No, I deserve to know what's going on."
"It doesn't concern you anymore, Mike. Leave it alone," I sternly says.
"Noctis..." Mike starts but I cut him off.
"No, Mike. I am not letting this up so just stop," I tell him and he closes his mouth.
I grab my bag and go up to Peters who is standing with a few medics that are attending to the other trainees. I am so thankful these rogues didn't shift.
"General Peters?"
"Kilo, I wanted to speak with you," I nod to him to continue, "I would like to take you into the army as a First Lieutenant to lead one of our special unit platoons."
"Wha...really?"
"Yes, I am very impressed with your fighting skills and you seem to know very advanced hand to hand combat. Maybe the best I have ever seen."
"Thank you, Sir. What does the special unit platoon do?"
"They go on special missions. If there is an old, unexplained death or battle, you will go investigate and take down the attackers."
"Thank you, Sir. I will gladly accept.
I have never heard of someone being moved through the ranks this quickly. I am kinda proud of myself. I will be leading a team to fight the dangerous stuff. I am excited.
Braelynn? I hear Pa's voice enter my head. I look around the tree line and spot his black wolf.
"Excuse me, I need to go. I will be back in a few minutes."
Peters nods and I run off in the direction of the forest. I am lead deep enough in so no one in the field can see us. Pa shifts back and I give him a hug.
"I missed you Pa."
"I missed you too Brae. How are you feeling? I heard about your promotion. Tell me how you get a promotion from a trainee to a first Lieutenant?"
"I have no clue Pa, but I am so excited. Did you see those rogues. There was at least forty of them and then the leader. The leader stayed on the sidelines and ordered the wolves around. The trainees were in some kind of trace, like they were under an Alpha command. They attacked us."
"Fatalities?"
"About 35 rogues and 2 trainees. Sergeant Ross is injured."
"What about you?"
"I'm fine. I took care of the rogues and only took two blows."
"Any suspicions?"
I look down at the question and sigh, "Mike. He say me get hurt and now sees the scars. He knows something is wrong, but I haven't told him."
"Try to keep it that way, Brae. You know how bad it can be if the humans found out."
"I know Pa, I will be careful. You should probably get back to the pack house. I have to leave soon."
"Okay Braelynn, stay safe and good luck. Do you still have the necklace?"
"Of course," I smile, taking it out from its place tucked in my shirt.
"Love you," he kisses my forehead.
"Love you too."
Pa shifts into his wolf Xavier and runs off into the woods. I turn and head back out of the woods. I meet up with Peters and he walks Mike and I over to his Jeep that he took here. I sit in the front and smile sits behind Peters. We start driving to the true army base three towns over where the troops are.
It takes two hours, but we make it to the base. We hope out of the Jeep and Peters takes us over to registration. We get signed in and get our new uniforms. Mike looks at my insignia with shock.
"Your a First Lieutenant? How?"
"General Peters says he liked my fighting style and wanted to make me the leader of a platoon."
I can see some anger in Mike's expression, "Congratulations," he says through gritted teeth.
I nod and then head off to change into my new uniform. Once done, I meet General Peters out in the back training field as Mike goes to the front training field where new recruits are.
"Everyone, this is your new First Lieutenant, Noctis Kilo," General Peters introduces.
The five people look at me with shock, all but one. That one person is a wolf, a rogue. If he is here I have to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't turn on us. He can tell I am a powerful wolf as well.
"Lieutenant Kilo," the wolf holds out a hand, "I am Private Tobias Branch."
I nod and shake his hand. The rest of the members introduce themselves. There is Carson, Mac, Nio, and Ren. The general leaves us to get to know each other.
"How did you become lieutenant here? How long have you been in the army?" Carson asks.
"First day in the army actually," I respond.
"What? Great, now we are all going to die," Mac exclaims.
"I challenge you to a fight, to see if you are a worthy leader of this group," Carson challenges.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, Carson," Tobias warns.
"And why not Tobias?"
"She clearly got this position for a reason. I wouldn't push her."
"She has no experience, so she has no chance."
Tobias shrugs and tells Carson that it's his death wish. Carson stands in front of me in a pretty good stance. He jabs at my face but I duck. He goes for my stomach and I dodge sideways. I sweep his feet from under him and straddle him with my toes on his wrists. He can't move so I just sit like this waiting for him to give up. When he stays silent I roll my eyes.
"I never said I haven't fought before. I just haven't been in the army for long. Can you give up so we can move on with our day."
"You never even threw a punch."
"I know."
He huffs, "Fine, you win."
I get off of him and left him stand up. I hear Nip ask a question so I turn to talk to him and I feel a fist coming from my spine. I turn quickly and grab Carson's fist, twisting it behind him.
"Want to try that again Private Carson?" I challenge.
"No Lieutenant Kilo. I apologize."
I let go of his arm and turn back to face Nio, "What would you like to say Nio?"
"What training base did you can from?"
"Halry," I reply.
"We're you there during the wolf attack or did you already leave by then?"
"I was there. That is one of the reasons I am your Lieutenant. I killed 35 wolves that were attacking us and knocked out a few trainees," I see all of their eyes widen, including Tobias.
"So it's true, the other trainees had a period of insanity and tried to kill you guys?" Ren asks.
"Yes, they did. Doctors are trying to figure out what happened to them."
We talk for a while longer before it is time for dinner. Time flew by today and the group heads to the mess hall. Tobias holds me back for a moment to talk.
"Are you an Alpha?" He asks.
"No, my dad is though."
"Why are you here? In the army I mean," Tobias wonders.
"I was pretty much kept prisoner in my own house. I could never go anywhere alone, so I ran away once I got accepted into the army training."
"What pack are you from?"
I hesitate answering him, "The Royal Pack."
"What? You are the princess to the Royal Pack?"
"Unfortunately," I reply and he gives me a questioning look, "As I said, I was kept prisoner in my own home. I wasn't allowed to train so Pa trained me in secrete."
"Woah, you were trained by a black wolf?"
"Yes I was."
"That explains your exceptional fighting skills. Nice to have you on the team," Tobias holds out a hand for me and I shake it.
I think I may just like being with this group.
