Forming the Platoon
Noctis
"To the more important questions," I tell them. "Lapel, why are you a rogue?"
"I was born a rogue and never got into a pack. I decided to join the army to be put to good use since rogues go to war with the good guys."
I nod and turn my attention to Silas, "What about you?"
"My mate rejected me and I couldn't stand staying in the pack with her around all the time any longer so I left."
Sounds like the truth. Finally it is Dax's turn, "Why are you here when you have a coven back home?" I ask Dax.
"My parents wanted me to get fighting experience since I will be the leader of the coven in a couple years."
I nod, "Do any of you have any questions for me?"
They think for a moment and Kai speaks up first, "How did you become a lieutenant before your first tour?"
"I fought off and killed thirty or so rogues at once when I was about to move from training base to here."
"Woah."
"Why did you take a break from the army for a few months?" Dax wonders.
"There was a silver bomb that went off and I was discharged until I healed from the shrapnel."
"You survived a silver bomb?!" Silas exclaims.
"Yes, anything else?"
"How much longer are you going to stay in the army for?" Kai questions.
"Until I feel ready to go back home," I sigh.
"Why don't you...." I cut Silas off.
"I don't want to talk about it. I am going to head to bed and I suggest you all do the same. Tomorrow I will be putting you all through hell," I tell the three before walking out of the mess hall.
The next morning I stand out on the field, waiting for everyone to show up. Lapel, Shaw and Wilson show up first and then there are the humans. I put them through an obstacle course a lot like the one I went through when I was in training. I timed them and watched for their mistakes. I wasn't shocked when Lapel, Shaw and Wilson came out on top. The day went much like that, I would give them a task and the supernaturals come out on top. The final task is camouflage. I let them go into the woods and hide while I will try to find them. They have to make their way back to the field before I catch them. I won't use my heightened sense of smell and the supernaturals can't as well.
I wait for ten minutes and then head into the forest. I walk quietly and listen to my surroundings. I hear crunch of leaves to my right and I slowly stalk towards the sound. I take out my red marker and grab the hand of Liam, putting a red line on it.
"You can head back to the field now," I whisper and he looks down and nods.
I listen once again and hear a twig snap followed by a quite sweat. I walk in that direction and see Blake behind a tree. I tap his should and he sighs in defeat. I put red mark on his hand and he makes his way to the clearing. I find the other two humans together and then head off to find the wolves and the vamp.
I climb and nearby tree and make my way closer to the clearing where I see Silas. I hook my legs around a tree branch and reach down, marking his hand. Silas looks around shocked and then I continue on without him seeing me. I then find Dax and I jump down quietly behind him and mark his hand as he turns around. I smirk and jump back to the tree, hoisting myself up. I see Kai not far from where I am and she is sprinting to the clearing. I follow not far behind and slowly catch up. I tackle her as we emerge into the training field.
We stand up and make our way over to the rest of the group, "Good job everyone. Go take a shower as I make a decision on the platoon," I tell them all and make my way to the director's office.
I walk in after knocking and the director looks up from his papers, "Ah, Lieutenant Kilo. Have you made your decision?"
"I have. I want Lapel, Shaw and Wilson on my platoon. I want you to know that I judged them all fairly and that is how the results came out. I was not biased as to what they are."
"Good to hear it. I will do the paperwork and see when you guys can get going. That rogue problem is still getting worse over there and we need you there to help. We still don't know what they want and the surrounding packs have been having almost no issues with them anymore. I want you to try to figure out what's going on."
"Yes sir."
"Go get some rest and grab something to eat. I will give you more information when I have some."
I nod and excuse myself. I head down to my room and fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. I am so exhausted.
I wake up at four in the morning and decide to head to the gym. When I get there, there is one other person on the bench press. I don't pay much attention to him and I head to the treadmill. I start off at a jog and then speed up to a run. I stay there for an hour before heading to the punching bag. I practice my punches which are getting stronger and then head to the monkey bars. They curve upwards and then back down on the other side. I climb to the other side and do ten pull ups before turning around and climbing back. I go to the rings that hang from the ceiling and pull myself up so my arms are straight I slowly bring my legs up together until they are in front of my face and then I do a flip forwards before going back and landing on the ground. I head over to do sumo deadlift and weighted squats.
Once I feel I am ready to face the day I head back to my room to take a quick shower. I pull on my camo pants, combat boots and a black t-shirt. I walk to the mess hall to have some breakfast and tell the trainees who will be in my platoon. I walk in expecting to see Kai, Silas and Dax all confident and cocky; however, they are the ones who look nervous. The humans all look very cocky like I am for sure going to choose them. Time to knock their ego down a peg. I stand at the head of their table before I grab food and clap my hands once to grab their attention. Their heads all snap towards me and they listen intently.
"Lapel, Shaw and Wilson. Congratulations on making the special ops platoon. I look forward to getting to know the three of you. To the rest of you, good luck at the platoon you are placed in."
The humans look pissed off and sad at the news they will not be in my platoon. I walk over to the food and grab vanilla yogurt with strawberries, blueberries and granola. I take it back to the table I sat at yesterday and begin eating. Kai, Dax and Silas all come and sit with me.
"Thank you for choosing us," Kai smiles.
"It was all you guys. You were the best trained out of the group."
We eat in silence before I get a phone call. I look at the screen to see Cali's caller ID. I pick up the call and hold the phone to my ear.
"Hey Cali, what's wrong?" I ask.
"Nothing's wrong, I am just calling to see how you are. Are you back overseas yet?"
"No, I just got my new platoon and we should be leaving soon. There is a rogue problem over there that is becoming worse for the military."
"Good luck and you better keep in touch. I don't want to lose touch with my best friend."
I roll my eyes, "I will call you when I can Cali."
"Don't roll your eyes at me Noctis. I will talk with you soon, I have to go. Bye."
I hang up and place my phone down on the table. My platoon and I make good conversation about a lot of things. They are all going on to their second tour and have gotten chosen to apply for this platoon. Mid-conversation, Director Marks comes over to our table.
"Can I talk with you for a moment Kilo?" I nod and walk over to the corner with him.
"What's the word Director?"
"You and your platoon are catching a plane tomorrow to head to England where the rogues have been last spotted. There is a pack there that is giving us information about these rogues and they have agreed to speak with you."
"Okay Sir, what pack is it?" I wonder.
"Red Flame Pack."
"Yes Sir, I will tell the team."
He nods and leaves the room. I head back over to the table and grab the attention of the group.
"We are leaving for England tomorrow to investigate rogue attacks that have moved there. The Red Flame Pack has information and has agreed to speak with us about the rogues and what they want."
"The Red Flame Pack? Really?" Silas says with shock in his voice.
"Why? What's wrong with them?" I ask, I may be out of the loop with packs.
"They are the second most feared pack in the world next to the Royal Pack," Silas answers.
"They can't be that scary then," I mumble but they hear me.
"What do you mean? The Royal Pack is hella scary!" Kai insists.
"Never mind. Just be ready to leave in the morning," I tell them and then leave to get some paperwork done.
