Noctis

Sergeant Major Jones, who now insists on me calling him Dan, got all my papers ready to go and he called the Star's Sun Pack for permission onto their territory so I can grab my stuff. I got Cali to put a few of my clothes in my duffle bag and then bring it to her room. I guess it would be her old room now as she is moving to the Royal Pack.

We are pulling up to the pack house now and I see Orion, River, and Brit waiting out front. We exit the car and walk over to them. They all look shocked to see me, so I guess Dan left that out.

"Alpha Orion, Luna Brit, and Beta River, it is nice to finally meet you all," Dan greets and shakes their hands.

"Nice to meet you are well Sergeant. What brings you and Noctis here today?" Orion asks.

Dan looks to me and then back to the group, "You guys know each other?"

Before they can say anything I butt in and respond with, "We went to school together when I got back from the army."

I don't want anything keeping me from going back to the army and if Dan knows about the rejection, who knows what will happen.

"We came here to grab a bag Cali left for Noctis."

"Where are you going?" River asks.

"Back to the army, I just need to grab my duffle and I will be on my way," I tell them.

Brit looks triumphant that she is getting rid of me and I roll my eyes at her. I walk past them and in the front door as Dan follows me in. I walk towards the stairs and make my way to Cali's room. I see my bag on her bed with a note that says 'I'm going to miss you and you better not die over there or I will kill you myself. All the love, Cali.' I chuckles and put the card in my bag. I pick out my necklace and put it on before zipping my bag back up and slinging it over my shoulder. I turn around and Dan nods before walking back down the stairs. I almost get to the front door when Luna calls from behind me. I sigh, so close. I turn around and she embraces me in a hug. I awkwardly patt her back and she lets go.

"It's so nice to see you again dear, I haven't seen you since graduation. Did you find what you were looking for? Who is this?"

"Cali helped me find what I wanted and this is Sergeant Major Jones. He is driving me to the army base so I can be deployed again."

"Your going back? Is this because of what happened between you and my..." I cut her off.

"No, it's not because of that. This is because I am healed and ready to go back to war."

"Okay dear, be safe and call if you need anything once back in the states."

"Okay, I will. Thanks Luna."

"You can call me Kathryn dear. Have a safe drive," she smiles.

I give her a small wave and walk out the front door with Dan behind me. Before I got to the car, Orion stops me. What now?

"Here, this is my number if you ever get in trouble and need help," he says, giving me a piece of paper. I hold back my laughter since if anyone needs help it will be him.

"Thanks, here," I write down my number quickly and hand the paper to him. "If your pack ever needs help, give me a call."

He nods and I get into the passengers seat while Dan gets in the drivers seat before driving away from the territory. After a few minutes of driving, Dan speaks what is on his mind.

"What happened between you and that pack? There was some serious tension."

"It's doesn't matter now, does it."

Dan looks at me before turning back to the road, "Listen, if I tell you that whatever you say won't leave this car and it will not affect you enlisting in the army, will you tell me?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"I am just trying to be there for you Noctis."

"I have already talked to Cali about all of this to get it off my chest."

"Okay."

"Have you found your mate?" I ask Dan, kinda by accident.

"I have, she was amazing. Unfortunately, she died giving birth to our only child."

"Do you think you will have a second chance?" I sigh while looking out he window with my head in my hand.

"I don't think so, I had my chance and it was amazing. Second chances don't happen very often."

I look up at this, "They don't? I thought everyone had one if the first mate rejected them or died too soon."

"No. You might have a second chance if your mate rejects you, but if your mate dies, you probably won't get one."

"So, there is a chance?" I hopefully ask as I look back out the window.

"What happened to your mate Noctis?" Dan sympathetically asks.

"I was rejected...well, I guess not purposefully rejected, but he is with someone else now."

"How do you mean?"

"I didn't know he was my mate because I couldn't smell a damn thing after the explosion. He then marked and mated someone else."

"I'm so sorry Noctis. I hope you have a second chance."

"Yeah, me too I guess. I just don't want to go through that pain again," I truthfully respond.

"I understand."

"Do you know if they have put together another special ops platoon yet?"

"No, actually the director wanted to wait for you to help chose the new members of your platoon."

"Really?" I wonder.

"Yup, at the base there are candidates waiting for you to look at their strengths and weaknesses."

"Any wolves?" I ask.

"I'm not sure, I haven't been to the base in a little while since my daughter had her baby."

"Awe, congratulations," I congratulate.

"Thank you."

The rest of the ride consists of small talk about nothing in particular. We eventually get to the base and make our way to the director. I stop my the bathroom to change into my uniform before meeting Dan at the director's office.

"Noctis Kilo, it is so nice to have you back," the director smiles and I nod. He is a vampire which isn't common in the army.

"I am excited to see the new recruits," I tell him.

"Ah, yes, for the platoon. There are two wolves and a vampire then a few humans. I have to say they are all pretty good candidates so you will have a tough time cutting it down to three."

"Three? I have four in my last platoon," I tell Director Marks.

"Yes, I know. We cut it down to three so there is more money for new supplies."

I nod, "Thank you Director Marks. When can I meet them?"

"How about at dinner and then you can evaluate them tomorrow."

I nod and then excuse myself to find my room. I get a price room now because of my rank and it is so nice. I throw my bag in the floor and throw my hair up into a ponytail. I then make my way to the mess hall. Once walking in, try ears are filled with the many conversations being held. I do see a few heads turn my way and they all seem to be supernaturals. I grab an apple, not feeling too hungry, and make my way to the end of a table to eat. I throw my apple core in the nearby garbage as a group of seven walk up to my table with Dan.

"This is the group Kilo, have fun," Dan tells me before walking away.

I look at the group. There are two wolves and one is a girl which makes me happy and they are both rogues. Then there is the vampire who is a guy and he seems kind of shy. He seems to be from a coven; however, I don't know which one which I would like to know. The other four are humans and they don't seem to be anything special on the outside. They all sit down at the table and start introducing themselves.

"I'm Kaila Lapel, but everyone calls me Kai," the she-wolf introduces.

"I'm Silas Shaw," the male wolf says.

"Dax Wilson," the vamp tells me.

Then the humans introduce themselves and I be polite. If I am going to be honest, I hope the wolves and vampire are good so I can chose them. It would be so much easier that way. The humans leave with the rest of the trainees when dinner is over and then I am left with Lapel, Shaw, and Wilson.

"Down to the real questions," I say.
