Some say our destiny is tied to the land, as much a part of us as we are of it. Others say fate is woven together like a cloth so that one’s destiny intertwines with many others. It’s the one thing we search for or fight to change. Some never find it. But there are some who are led. The story of how Odin lost his eye to the demon bear, Thanos, became legend. Loki became a brother in law to Thor and Jane, his wife and father queen. Although Jane spends time in her kingdom while Thor stays in his. But Thor can get away with murder!

Loki can never get away with anything! He's the prince. The example. He's got duties, responsibilities, expectations. His whole life is planned out, until the day he becomes, well, Odin. He’s in charge of every single day of his life. Teaching him how to be a Prince, one day a King, know about the Nine realms, the list goes on. But every once in a while, there's a day when he doesn't have to be a prince. No lessons, no expectations. A day where anything can happen.

A day when he can change his fate. Every day he doesn't have to do lessons with Odin, he goes for a ride on his horse and practice throwing his daggers. He's really good at it. As well as sorcery. Although he never uses his magic in front of Thor or anyone. Thor still doesn't believe in magic. Hasn't for a long time. But Loki believes it all. He even went to the Crone's Tooth. A rock near a waterfall. At sunrise or sunset, the river turns orange like fire so they call it the fire falls.

Only the ancient kings were brave enough to drink it. But so was Loki. Because he did. After that adventure, he returned home to tell his family all about it. He made his way through the kitchen grabbing an apple and a whole plate of cakes for his greedy older brother. He walked in as Odin told the story of him facing Thanos on Loki's birthday.

"From nowhere, the biggest bear you’ve ever seen! Its hide littered with the weapons of fallen warriors. Its face scarred with one dead eye. I threw my sceptre and…"

"WHOOSH!" Loki scared Thor popping up behind him, "one swipe, his scepter shattered, then, CHOMP! Father's eye was clean off! Down that monster’s throat it went."

"Awwwwww! That’s my favourite part!" Thor whined

"Thanos has never been seen since. And he’s roaming the wild, awaiting his chance for revenge!" Loki roared.

"Let him return! I'll finish what Father gobbled in the first place."

Loki put his daggers on his side of the table.

"Loki, a prince does not place his weapons on the table," Frigga said.

"Mother! It’s just my daggers," Loki said.

"A prince should not have weaponry in my opinion."

"Leave him be! Prince or not, learning to fight is essential," Thor said.

Thor only learned because he was deemed the strongest of the two and Loki wasn't as strong. So Odin didn't want Loki to have weapons but Frigga taught him how to use weapons anyway. She just makes it look like she hasn't when Odin is around.

"Father, you’ll never guess what I did today," Loki said as Odin hummed, "I climbed the Crone’s Tooth and drank from the Fire Falls."

"Fire Falls? They say only the ancient kings were brave enough to drink the fire," Thor said.

"What did you do, son?" Odin was busy reading letters so he didn't hear Loki.

"Nothing, Father," Loki said disappointed.

"Hungry aren’t we?" Frigga asked referring to the cakes Loki brought in.

"Mother!" Loki groaned

"You’ll get dreadful collywobbles. Oh, Odin! Will you look at your son's plate?"

Odin looked but continued to read the letters he had gotten. Three more arrived. He looked at them. Loki got Thor's attention and slid the cakes under the table for him to snack on while their parents were distracted.

"Frigga, they’ve all accepted," Odin said to his queen.

Frigga looked frightened. No one had told Loki the news.

"Who’s accepted what, Father?" Loki asked

"Thor, you are excused," Odin said.

Thor knew what was happening and didn't want to see how his little brother would react so he quickly left.

"Whaaat… Did I do… Now?" Loki asked

"Your Mother has something to discuss with you," Frigga almost spat out her drink in surprise, "Frigga?"

Frigga nervously cleared her throat, "Loki…" she hesitates, not knowing what to say.

Odin sighed, "the lords are presenting their daughters as suitors for your betrothal."

"What?" Loki asked.

"The clans have accepted!"

"MOTHER!" Loki yelled

Frigga only stuttered.

"Honestly, Loki! I don’t know why you’re reacting this way," Odin said, "This year each clan will present a suitor to compete in the games for your hand."

"I suppose a prince just does what he’s told!" Loki snapped

"A prince does not raise his voice! Loki, this is what you’ve been preparing for your whole life."

"No! It’s what you’ve been preparing me for my whole life!" Loki stood up, "I won’t go through with it! You can’t make me!"

Loki stormed off with his daggers. Odin called after him but Loki just walked away in anger. How could his father do this? Betrothed without telling him. Odin has always wanted Loki to follow in his steps but Loki wants to do his own thing. Loki went to his room and let out his anger on his bedpost with his daggers. Odin walked in making him stop.

"Father! Suitors! Marriage!" Loki tried to argue.

"Once there was an ancient kingdom," Odin began.

"Ah, Father! Ancient kingdom?"

"Its name long forgotten, ruled by a wise and fair king who was much beloved. And when he grew old he divided the kingdom among his four sons. That they should be the pillars on which their piece of land rested. But the oldest prince wanted to rule the land for himself, he followed his own path and the kingdom fell, to war and chaos and ruin."

"That’s a nice story."

"It’s not just a story, Loki. Legends are lessons and they ring with truths."

Loki tisked, "Father!"

"I would advise you to make your peace with this. The clans are coming to present their suitors."

"It’s not fair!"

"Oh, Loki! It’s marriage, it’s not the end of the world."

Odin left and Loki used his telekinesis to slam the door.
