If You Insist

"Really, you don't think a single person likes you?" His voice was so full of disbelief that I thought he had to be joking.

I blinked at him, "No, I mean... I'm not exactly special or anything." I did my best to make my voice sound light and amused, but it was a topic that hit a little too close to home.

"Not special? Really, di Angelo, well..." He sounded completely exasperated and a little angry, staring the ceiling like he couldn't even bring himself to look at me.

"Well, what?" The confusion in my voice showed up all over my face, in the way my brow was creased and my lips pursed, in my body language, the way I was leaning forward slightly, trying to figure him out, to discern what was going on his head.

Will dropped his gaze back down, catching my eye, now he just looked amused. "What would you say if I told you that I know someone who does like you?"

I'd say it doesn't matter, it's not you, I thought.

I said, "You do?"

He nodded, smiling at me, his eyes were laughing. "Don't sound so surprised."

My cheeks immediately flared hot and I tugged on the hem of my shirt nervously, staring at my shoes, not wanting him to see the disappointment underneath my expression. "Do I know him?"

"I believe you do, actually." There was something in his voice that made me jerk my gaze back up to his. His head was tilted down slightly and his eyelashes were cast down so that I could just glimpse the vivid blue of his irises through them and- Oh. Oh,Dio, was he flirting with me?

My heart stuttered a bit before it hauled itself back into action again, except now it felt faulty and unreliable like an old car. I forced myself to at least seem calm, tilting my head to the right and smiling at him coyly like I did this every day. Which was about as far from the truth as I could possibly get. My hands had started to shake, to I tucked them securely into my pockets, leaning back against the banister behind me in an attempt at casualness. "Hm... what's he like?"

"He's a good bit taller than you-"

"Most people are. Try narrowing it down a bit." Somehow, his calm, sure aura was rubbing off on me, making me feel more at ease going back and forth like this.

He smirked at me teasingly, "True enough." Taking a little step forward, making me gulp, "He's got blonde hair with blue eyes and a god-given gift for poetry-" I couldn't help but snort a bit at this, and the corner of his mouth twitched upwards, "He's horrible at singing, but I hear his moves on the dance floor aren't too bad,and he has the biggest crush on you."

"Doesn't ring a bell," I said, barely loud enough for him to hear me across the space separating us, mostly out of sheer disbelief. I had to force myself not to reach up and pinch my arm.

"Oh, really?" His voice had dropped an octave and his eyes had taken on a cunning glint, complimented by a mischievous smirk that pulled his lips upwards.

I nodded, smiling back and biting my lip without really meaning too. The room's temperature seemed to rise as Will moved towards me. He lightly touched my face, standing close enough that the toes of his shoes were pressed tightly against mine. His breath whispered across my lips, even softer than his voice, "Maybe I can help you remember."

"I think it's already working," I whispered back, my voice sounded husky even to me.

Will's smile continued to grow as he placed his hands on my hips, thumbs tracing circles there. "Really? Do you have any ideas yet?"

I really just wanted him to kiss me, my body seemed to ache with the longing. "A few... but my memory is still a bit hazy." My eyes began to wander downward to settle on his lips, I hadn't ever imagined that I would actually get to see them this close. Will pressed himself against me, pushing my back into the banister. My eyes found their way back to his again and a gasp escaped me.

"It'll come to you eventually," he muttered. I had completely forgotten what we were talking about at this point.

I didn't even register that my hands had tugged themselves out of my pockets and lifted up to touch his softly curling hair until my fingers were wound securely into it. "I could use a few more hints." And then I pulled him down towards me, raising myself up on my tiptoes to press my mouth against his. I couldn't help the tiny noise that pushed itself up from my chest as his lips enclosed themselves against mine. A fire sparked alive inside of me and slowly grew until it was a raging bonfire, its glowing tendrils licking at the ceiling and making my nerves crackle in delight.

He had to bend down to meet me, making me arch into him slightly, and our foreheads bumped together awkwardly as Will tilted his head the wrong way, making me laugh and then gasp loudly as he bit my lip softly almost like he trying to make up for it.

My breaths were loud and long against his mouth and my hands were disentangling themselves from his hair and making their way down his back when tongue brushed over my bottom lip, so sudden that my hands froze against the middle of his back, fingers curling against his shirt and digging into his back as his tongue traced over my teeth on its way to mine.

Our mouths were a haze of teeth clacking and tongues moving until he pulled away for a moment, trailing saliva as we both gasped hungrily for air. My hands moved up to his face, pulling him back down to me, calves aching from standing on my toes for so long, but I didn't really care because his hands were sliding down my sides, over my hips and downward until they found the backs of my thighs.

I groaned, feeling Will smiling against my mouth until he slowly pulled away from me, pulling his lower lip between his teeth.

"Merda." I muttered hoarsely, falling back to flat-foot and letting my arms drop to my sides. My hands gripped the bars holding up the railing in an attempt to steady myself.

Will's smile was lazy and teasing, but he was breathing just as heavily as I was. "I think we should definitely do that more often."

I rolled my eyes at him in mock annoyance and pulled myself upward to kiss him again. This time, soft and sure. "If you insist."
