TWENTY-EIGHT

The little girl pulled her pink doll to her chest as she watched the exchange between her parents. It was like they didn't notice her presence in the room as they yelled at each other. She watched quietly with trembling legs, she had never seen her Dad this furious---it terrified her.

Her mom's ebony hair was neatly brushed and her rich dark skin made her more beautiful. She watched as her mother tried to talk to her father who wasn't ready to listen to whatever she wanted to say.

"Please Sam, you don't have to accept the deal. You can win this election without any foreign help." Her mom pleaded in a calm tone.

"Don't lie to me Diana, we both know that's a freaking lie!" Her Dad yelled, making the little girl flinch at the tone of his voice.

"Think of what you're putting at stake here. Think of Bloom's future, if the truth comes out it will ruin her one day."

Her mom said in a soft tone that carried worry and pain, she tried to touch him.

"Shut up!" He snapped, making her pull her hand away.

"I will do whatever I want and you will keep your mouth shut, get it?"

"No, I can't do this Sam." Her mom replied, shaking her head in disapproval.

"And you call yourself a wife? You're supposed to be by my side through good and bad. You're here to support me through every decision I make. You're going to be the first lady of the United States, don't you want that?"
He approached her with clenched fists and a hardened jaw.

"I don't want it! We have enough luxury already. We can't ruin Bloom's future like this, Sam. I won't let you..."
He cut her off when he gripped her by the neck.

The little girl wanted to look away or scream for him to stop hurting her mom but she was too scared.

"You've always been a pain in the ass. You never listen!"
He snarled, tightening his grip around her neck. She struggled to get some air into her lungs as she tried to push him away.

"I'm giving our daughter a better future," he said and pushed her away but she missed a step and stumbled to the marble floor, hitting her head really hard on the thick glass table.

The little girl pressed her back to the wall and watched with wide eyes as her father stared at her mom not helping her.

Instead of calling for help, he stood over her body and watched her bleed from the back of her head.

"I'm sorry, my love. I'm so close to getting what I want and I won't let you ruin it," he whispered.

The little girl watched quietly not sure of what was happening anymore? Why was mommy on the floor and why was she not moving?

Her curious mind wondered.

"Daddy?" She called.

He looked surprised when he turned around and saw her.

"Princess?" He took a glance at his wife's unmoving body and moved quickly to where the little girl was standing.

"Is mom okay?" She asked, trying to look behind him but he blocked her view.

"Of course Princess, she is just having a nap. Come on, it's time for you to get some sleep too."
He took her hand and led her out of the room. She looked back at her mother's body in the pool of blood.

She knew she wasn't having a nap.

Bloom woke up with a gasp, she could hear beeping from close by. She stared at the white ceiling above her.

"Princess?"
She heard her Dad's voice from a corner.

She looked around the room and found him on the couch with the Times magazine in his hand, three bodyguards kept him company in the room.

"Dad?" she mumbled.

He put down the magazine that had his face on the front cover. He stood up and walked to the bed with a smile.

"Call the Doctor," he ordered one of his bodyguards.

"What happened?" She asked hoarsely as she looked around the big room.

"That's not important right now, you're alive and safe. That's all that matters."
He sat next to her on the bed and took her small hand.

She smiled softly at him, she wasn't sure if it was a dream or a memory but she was getting terrified of her father. Maybe he wasn't really who she thought he was.

She wondered why she kept having weird dreams or were they memories? She brushed her thoughts away and stared at her Dad who looked so happy to see her awake.

"Where is Damian?"
She asked, looking around the room again.

"He felt responsible for what happened and decided to resign. I tried to speak to him but he refused to stay."

"He didn't even come to see me?"
She asked, looking into his eyes like she was searching for the truth.

"I'm really sorry princess, he is gone." He gave her a sad smile.

She nodded and looked away, she tried to stay strong and not cry. That wasn't the Damian she knew, he wouldn't just leave without saying goodbye.

The memories from that night replayed in her head. She looked down quickly at where she was shot, she felt a slight pain at her swift movement.

"Easy, Princess," her Dad said.

"Where is Zayn?" she asked after recalling he was the one that found her.

"You need more rest, don't worry about anyone. I'm here for you, you're safe now, no one will ever hurt you again."
The President said, caressing her cheek.

"Where is he? What did you do to him?"
She sat up on the bed with a hardened expression.

The President sighed and stood up from the bed. He looked frustrated as he stared at her.

"He is behind bars, where he belongs." He said with a smile.

"Why would you do that? He saved my life, Dad."

"That's what he made you believe, sweetheart. You don't belong with people like him, he is a criminal."

"I wanna see him," she tried to come down from the bed but he told two of the bodyguard in the room to hold her down.

"This is what I have been trying to protect you from, princess. You need to trust me."

"Let me go!" She struggled, ignoring the pain in her lower abdomen.

A Doctor walked into the room with two nurses. They all flashed the President a smile and greeted him.

"Sedate her please," The president said to the Doctor.

"No!!!" Bloom screamed, struggling to free herself from the strong bodyguards grasp.

She watched in horror as the Doctor brought the syringe closer. She shook her head frantically with tears brimming in her eyes.

"No! Daddy please," she cried, wriggling to fight the hands holding her.

"Hold her down, please," the Doctor asked the bodyguards as Bloom raised her leg to kick the syringe away.

"Get that shit away from me!" Bloom yelled, glaring at the Doctor who looked nervous as he leaned closer to her arm.

Bloom opened her mouth and screamed when he brought the needle closer to her skin. The President gestured for one of the nurses to cover her mouth.

The tall nurse with golden-blonde hair rushed and clamped her palm against Bloom's mouth to block the sound of her scream. Bloom looked into the nurse's green eyes and bit her palm but instead, the nurse only hissed in pain and kept her hand on her mouth.

She stared at her Dad who looked emotionless as the Doctor injected the sedative into her veins. A tear rolled down to her temple as her body drifted slowly to sleep.

"Can I speak to you for a minute, Mr. President?" The Doctor asked after checking her vitals.

"Sure," he replied, adjusting his suit jacket like it was tight.

They stepped outside the room and maintained some distance from the bodyguards.

"We went through the brain scan we took from your daughter, it seems she is regaining her old memories for some reason and it's going to cause her migraine for a few days but we..."

"Wait, she is getting her old memories back?" The President cut in quickly with a horrified expression washing over his face.

"Yes."

"Shit," He mumbled, looking away from the Doctor.

"We will do our best to take care of her and offer her the best treatment." The Doctor said with a shaky voice.

"Good," he said plainly and walked away.

He grabbed his phone and made a call when he entered the room. He sent his bodyguards outside as the number dialed.

"Hello, Dr. Martin, it's been a long time. How have you been?" The President said as he ran his palm down his left knee to ease his nerves.

"I'm doing good, Mr. President. I heard about your daughter, sorry for what happened. I hope she is okay?"

"That's why I called, she is regaining her old memories. How early can you do the Electroconvulsive therapy?"

"Are you sure it's a good idea? She is 17 now."

"I know how old she is. She can't remember what happened, Martin. When can you do it?"

"She is still recovering, we have to wait for a week for her to be strong for the therapy. She almost died last time, we have to be careful, Sam."

"Okay, I will keep an eye on her for now," The president said and hung up.

He cursed again and took a glance at her, wondering what she remembered.

Nicole threw her small handbag across the room as soon as she entered their room in the motel they were hiding. Liz jumped in her seat while Tyra looked alarmed at Nicole's action.

"Calm down, Nicole."
Taylor said behind her with his arms crossed. He looked exhausted like her whole bickering during the ride drained the life out of him.

"What happened?"
Liz asked standing up from her seat.

"They won't let us see Zayn. It's been freaking three days and they still won't let us see him." Nicole explained, looking frustrated.

"But he has the right to have visitors, doesn't he?"
Liz asked.

"They told us they are still investigating and can't let him have any visitors to avoid tampering with the investigation." Nicole mimicked with a funny expression.

"That is so unfair. Like I said, racists! If Zayn was some white dude that brought that asshole's daughter to the hospital, trust me he won't be arrested." Tyra said, stuffing some spicy chips into her mouth.

"How is Mimi?" Nicole asked, looking stressed.

"She is sleeping, she refused to eat," Liz told her.

"Poor thing, we need to find a way to get Zayn out."
Nicole said and went to take a seat on the long couch in the room.

"I know and we will," Taylor said.

'Maybe we should ask the Antisam for help."
Liz suggested.

"No way. You know the rules, you get caught you keep your loyalty to the organization and sacrifice whatever it takes to keep your lips sealed. Besides, we are on their hit list for betraying them."

Tyra said with a mouth full of potato chips.

Liz groaned and brushed her long dreadlocks back.

"I need a drink," Taylor mumbled and walked to the door.

"Get me a bottle of water on your way, babe!" Nicole yelled after him.

Bloom opened her eyes slowly, she tried to keep her heavy eyelids open as she looked around the room. The images around her were blurry and she felt like she was drowning in despair

She felt so weak and couldn't move her hands or her feet. Her body didn't feel like hers anymore and she wasn't sure her soul was still in her body.

Her Dad watched her from where he sat with his secretary next to him, he kept his eyes on her waiting for her to start screaming or try running away as she's been doing for the last three days, but she remained calm not moving.

The sedatives the Doctors have been injecting her was messing with her head. She lost count of the number of times her Dad forced them to sedate her so he could shut her up. She was tired of fighting, she hated the numbness.

"Call the Doctor," The president told one of the guards immediately she moved her head.

"No," Bloom whimpered weakly.

"Please," she begged in a weak tone trying to keep her eyes open.

"I don't want more, please stop."
She cried.

"Please Dad," she begged more when the short man in a white lab coat walked in with the sedatives laid on a silver tray.

"Please don't make him do it, you're hurting me."
She tried to struggle as one of the bodyguards came to hold her down but her weak attempts failed.

"Daddy, please," she looked at him with tears blurring her sight and with a red face.

"Wait," The president ordered the Doctor who looked relieved for some reason after he stopped him.

He stood up from his seat and walked to the bed.

"Hey, Princess," he stroked her hair giving her a small smile.

"You know I only want the best for you right?"
She nodded her head frantically, she would do anything for him not to sedate her again.

"If you behave and let the Doctors do their job so we can go back home without you asking about that criminal, I promise there will be no more sedatives."
He said with a smile still stroking her hair.

"I promise, I will behave."

"Good, that's my baby girl. Now stop crying, I hate seeing tears on your pretty face."
He said wiping her tears away.

"I will keep you safe, we'll go back to how we use to be. When nothing else mattered."
She nodded at his words, forcing a smile.

"Take that shit away, you're scaring my daughter."
He said to the Doctor who rushed out of the room.

"You'll be discharged tomorrow, the rest of your treatment will be taken care of at the Valley House, okay?"

She nodded.

"You don't have to worry about anything again," he whispered.

"If you had listened to me, you wouldn't be in the hospital right now," he told her.

"I'm sorry," she muttered.

"I love you, sweetheart."
He placed a kiss on her forehead.

"I will see you tomorrow, I have to attend a meeting in New York this evening. Tell the bodyguards to get you anything you wanna eat, there is enough security here to keep you safe."

"Okay," she mumbled.

He gave the bodyguards a warning to keep her safe and not let her out of their sight. He told them they would get the death penalty if anything happens to her. Bloom listened with tears in her eyes, trying to keep them at bay.

He left with his secretary who looked at Bloom with pity as she walked out of the room in her designer stiletto heels.

Bloom broke into tears as soon as the door closed. The bodyguards looked void of emotion as they listened to her cry nonstop.

After a while, she stopped and just laid helplessly on the bed. Her Dad was acting like everything would return to normal when she returns to the Valley house. She knew her life would never be the same again.

Her heart squeezed at the thought of Zayn behind bars for a crime he didn't commit and the thought of never seeing him again broke her more.

There was a knock on the door, she turned her back away to let the two bodyguards in the room handle it. If anyone was here to kill her, she didn't mind.

She heard the door open then the sound of two bodies falling. She was ready to welcome her death as she shut her eyes and stayed still.

"Sunflower?"

She turned around slowly and stared with wide eyes at the two people disguised as a Doctor and a nurse.

"Hi, Barbie."
Tyra said dryly next to Zayn.

"Zayn?"
She sat up slowly with a big smile and tears of joy glistening in her pale eyes.
