Chpater 5
Ford's POV:
I dropped my newspapers and coffee mug and and ran upstairs without any hesitation.
"Dipper I'm here! What's wrong?!" I yell as I barged into the room.
I see Dipper, terrified, at the edge of his bed and his back is against the wall. His eyes are closed and he's shaking his head back and forth as if saying no.
He slowly brings his arm up and points to the center of the room. I look at what Dipper's pointing at and I'm relieved to see nothing there.
I come closer to Dipper and sit down on his bed, "Dipper what are you pointing at?" I ask calmly.
He puts his arm down and starts stuttering, "It's- it's him! It's Bill- it's Bill Cipher!"
His parents had told me about this "Bill character" and that's what he fears the most. I sigh in relief that Dipper's not in actual danger.
"Dipper, look at me." I say in a soft tone, "There's nothing and no one there. You're safe."
He lifted his head slowly and opened his eyes which were filled with fear, "You- you don't see him?" he asked.
I shook my head no and Dipper went back to hiding his face.
I sighed and got down on my knees, "Dipper, I can't help you here. You need to battle your own inner demons yourself."
With that, I got up and dusted myself off, "When you're ready, come join us for breakfast. And don't forget to take your medicine first."
I saw Dipper give a slight nod and I left the room.
To be honest, I'm really worried about my nephew. We had so much fun that summer and he doesn't even remember it. Sure I was gone for most of it because of my small business trip, but Dipper left Gravity Falls with traumatic memories that weren't even real.
He even thought that the reason I was gone for most of the summer was because I was stuck in a portal for thirty years until Stanley helped bring me back. The portal was supposedly in my "underground laboratory", also known as my bedroom, and that it almost destroyed the world. I know, crazy right?
I know I told Dipper that we would support him no matter, but I just can't believe the stuff he's said. Portals? Demons trying to take over the world? My brother being smart enough to fully activate a piece of machinery?! It's just not possible.
As I got back to the kitchen I saw Mabel cleaning up the mess I made.
"Oh dear, I'm sorry about the mess I made. You know you didn't have to clean that up for me Mabel." I said as I bent down to help her.
"It's ok Grunkle Ford, I have it covered. Don't worry." Mabel said with a smile.
I smiled back at her, "Alright if you say so."
Mabel handed me a new mug of coffee and went to wash the dishes, "Sooo, Grunkle Ford, is Dipper alright?"
"Hmm?" I replied, as I made eye contact with her, "Oh yes, your brother. I'm sure he's fine now."
"Maybe I should go check on him..." I stopped Mabel there.
"No Mabel. He needs to learn how to deal with his fears by himself. That's why you're here, isn't it?"
Mabel sighed and gave a small nod, "I guess."
She continued washing the dishes and then I remembered a question I had for her, "Uhh, Mabel?"
"Yeah?" she replied, as she turned off the water faucet and took her gloves off.
"Has Dipper ever hallucinated before? Like claiming he sees something or someone that isn't actually there?"
Mabel sat down next to me and shook her head, "No, not that I know of. Why?"
I put my coffee on the kitchen table and sighed, "Well..."
Dipper's POV:
He's not real. He's not real. He's not real.
I was still on my bed but now I was hugging my knees close to my chest, rocking myself, repeating those words to myself.
"Hey... Pine Tree are you ok?" he asked.
"NO!" I yelled at him, "YOU'RE NOT REAL!"
"I'm just as real as you Pine Tree." he said while rolling his eye.
I stopped swaying and looked at him in the eye, "Then why couldn't Ford see you?! I've got to be hallucinating! I'm going crazy again and it's ALL YOUR FAULT!"
"PINE TREE CALM DOWN! YOU'VE GOT TO LISTEN TO ME!" he yelled back.
I froze and backed away on my bed. I decided to listen to what he had to say.
"Look Pine Tree, the reason only YOU can see me is because you're the only one who still believes that I exist."
I crossed my arms and steered my eyes away from him, "I- I don't know what you're talking about Bill." I stuttered, "I know you're not real."
"Come on, ADMIT IT Pine Tree! Even through all that medication and therapy, you KNOW that they're wrong and you're right!" he yelled, ignoring that I wasn't looking at him.
My eyes widened, "Wait... how do you know that I take medicine and see a psychologist?"
"Pine Tree, I've been with you this whole time. All four years."
"So when I felt like someone was watching me, it was you?! Then how come I haven't seen you until now?"
"I think Gravity Falls's magic has allowed me to at least be a little visible."
"Hmm, you're right." I said as I examined him a bit, "You don't seem fully visible, you look a little transparent."
Then it clicked in my head, "Wait a minute... MAGIC?!" I yelled. "That means- that means I'm not crazy! Something DID happen to everyone else!"
I stood up with excitement and was about to hug Bill, but then I stopped midway, remembering who he was and what he did.
"Uhh, what were you just trying to do?"
"Oh uh, sorry. I guess I just got a little excited." I said as I backed away from him.
"You're still scared of me, aren't you Pine Tree?"
"No- it's just that- I," I sighed in defeat, "Yeah, a little."
Bill sighed and rolled his eye, "You could've told me sooner Pine Tree."
Bill set himself down on the floor and then a sudden puff of smoke covered him.
"Bill?" I asked between coughs.
The smoke then cleared and instead of a yellow triangle, there was a teenage boy who looked like he was seventeen or eighteen years old. He was wearing a yellow tail coat with a white dress shirt, a black bow tie, black pants, and black dress shoes. One of his eyes was covered by a black eye patch and the other was a vivid yellow with a deep black pupil. He had golden blond hair and a black top hat to top it off.
"Sooo, what do you think Pine Tree?" he asked, bowing down with a sly grin on his face.
What did I think? What did I think?! I didn't know what to think! But all of a sudden my face started to feel warm.
"I-.... I think-"
"Whoa Pine Tree, are you ok? Your face is starting to look a little red."
It is? I looked at a nearby mirror and it was true. My face was a slight shade of pink and it was only getting worst.
As I looked back at Bill, I noticed he was getting closer to me.
"Bill? What are you doing?" I asked nervously.
"Trying to finish that hug you were gonna give me Pine Tree!" he said smiling.
I shook my head back to reality and stopped him from getting any closer.
"Awwww, but Pine Treeeee-" I cut him off there.
"Even if you look different, I'm still mad at you. You're still Bill Cipher! And it's YOUR fault that my family thinks I'm crazy!"
Bill looked hurt, "Who ever said I was the one who did this?! Why would I want everyone to forget the most feared demon in the multiverse?!"
He had a point there.
I started circling around Bill and bit my lip.
If it wasn't Bill, then who was it?
I don't know, but it's gotta be someone who's really powerful.
Of course they have to be! They didn't just change their memories, they have proof that those memories were real!
But if they have proof what we know is fake, then what ever happened to the secret basement and all the creatures here?
Oh my gosh you're right! We need to ask Bill about this!
Agreed.
Bill's POV:
I watched as Pine Tree talked to himself inside his head. I didn't want to interrupt his thinking so I just let him be. Besides, he looks absolutely adorable when he paces around and talks to himself.
That's right, I said it. He looks adorable. Because his IS adorable.
To be honest, I didn't really think he was all that cute when he was twelve. But as I watched him grow up these four years, I got to know him better and grew a fond to him. But, I know it'll never happen. After what I did that summer, he'll never forgive me. I AM a demon after all, it just wouldn't work out.
"Bill?" I heard Pine Tree call my name.
"Ye- yes?" I said as I snapped out of my own thoughts.
"We- I mean, I have some questions for you."
I nodded and we both sat down on his bed.
He took out a notebook and pen and started on the first question, "What happened to all the super natural creatures in Gravity Falls?"
I respond, "Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"They're all still here Pine Tree, you just can't see them because of your medicine."
"But then how come I can see you?" he added.
"I have a lot more magic then they do, so it's easier for me to be visible."
"Do they know that they're not visible? That there's a spell going around Gravity Falls?"
I just shrugged, "I don't know. I never asked them."
"Why not?!" Pine Tree asked, seeming a bit angry.
"I was with youuuu, remember?"
Pine Tree clicked his pen back and forth, "Yeah, about that. How were you able to leave Gravity Falls? And why did you decide to follow me?!"
I started off with the first question, "Well I'm not exactly 'real' at the moment Pine Tree." pointing to my transparent self, "So I was kind of able to just leave, if you know what I mean. And I followed you because you're the only one who still believes in me." I said, blushing a bit.
"That's sweet." he said sarcastically as he wrote something else down on his notebook.
I frowned at him, a little heartbroken.
"Alright, last question: Do you know anyone powerful enough to be able to do something like this?"
I thought about it for a second but then shook my head, "Besides me, no. Not that I can think of."
With that, Pine Tree wrote one last thing down on his notebook and closed it.
"Well, I think this is a good start." he said with a sigh, "I'm gonna go eat breakfast now."
I followed him out of the room and then he noticed me and turned around, "What are you doing?"
"I don't really have anywhere to go, so I figured I'd just keep tagging along."
Pine Tree looked at me with a nervous look, "I- I don't know Bill. That doesn't seem like a very good idea."
"Pleeeaaase Pine Tree! I promise you won't even know that I'm there!" I pleaded.
Pine Tree rolled his eyes and laughed, "It's funny seeing the all mighty Bill Cipher begging just to stay with me. Hmmm, I guess you can stay. As long as you don't cause any mischief."
I nodded with excitement and I was about to hug him, but then I remembered he didn't like that so I backed away.
"Ready to start the day?" he asked.
I nodded again, a little less energetic then the last time, "Let's go!"
