Chapter Nine: Figuring Out the Truth
I remembered when I finished eating that I needed to get the key from the doll I defeated. As I was about to leave, right on my nightstand, I saw the same iron key that was around the creepy doll's neck. It was time that I figured out what was going on in that shed. Grabbing the key, I walked out of my room and avoided any doll that I could find. Hopefully, the doctor wouldn't be there either. Remaining calm and collected, I walked back outside and made my way over to the shed. The iron key was cold to the touch, and it was old and rusted, like someone hadn't used it in years. Thankfully, I didn't have to worry about it getting stuck. I walked over to the tool shed and inserted it into the key. Turning it, I heard a soft click and pulled the door open; it wasn't much of a tool shed but as I scanned the room, my indicator picked up something by the corner. I slowly walked over to it and held my hand by the crack. A breeze blew through it like it was leading outside.
I touched my temple and the minute I did; I saw an x-ray of what could be behind the wall. Shockingly, behind the wall, was another room. I gasped and stepped away. Pushing my hands against the wall, it moved with ease. I felt the sides around the edge until my hands could reach in and push the door aside. I expected to find myself outside, but I found myself in a totally different room. Stepping inside, I saw what was hanging from the ceiling. They were photographs of people specifically targeting those around New Orleans, but what really got to me was a list that seemed to go on forever. I realized my fears the minute I read the list, one of which had my name and my brother's name and my brother's name had a checkmark by it.
"Shit, I've gotta report this." I said to myself and pulled out my phone before calling my boss. It rang three times before someone finally picked up. "Hello? Cass?"
"Dean? What's so important?" Castiel asked. "Have you snagged the bitch yet?"
"No, I haven't like I said. She's got me trapped here in this stupid mansion of hers, but I think I found something," I explained. "This witch has a list of names hidden away in her tool shed, but it doesn't seem to be a tool shed, from the looks of it, the shed is only a ploy there are some creepy shit in this hellhole, and before I can even capture her, I have to stop these dolls, I don't know what else they've got in store for me but whatever it is, I'm going to stop them." I heard a long sigh on the other side of the line, instantly closing my mouth.
"Please tell me you aren't just playing with dolls, Dean." Castiel said. I wanted to protest. How could he seriously think I wanted to do any of this? All I thought about and hoped was that I could finally find my brother. "You need to get your head in the game."
"What do you think I'm doing?!" I exclaimed. "First Cass, I've been trying to keep my head out of the game," I continued. "Second, I think that there is some sort of connection between the dolls, the witch and even my brother and this creepy ass doctor." I described everything what the doctor looked like to Castiel. I couldn't tell if the man was listening or if he just pushed it off like it was nothing. I continued on and explained that the doctor and the witch were in leagues with one another. Something that I hadn't really thought much about until eventually it all made sense.
"Be careful Dean," Castiel warned me. "If what you say is true, then I fear that if we don't get that witch and her psychotic doctor, then things are probably going to get worse, not just for you but for the entire world. Keep us posted." I said something, but the line went dead to me being able to say anything. I huffed, annoyed by which I had to deal with this problem. Putting my phone away, I looked around the strange room, willing and wishing that I could figure out anything that could help me. I explored the room more, however, I hid the minute I heard someone entering the room. Searching for a hiding place, I hid under a table and remained quiet, only listening to the distinct sound of the doctor and my brother.
"Where is that kid?" the doctor said. "Sam, have you seen him around?"
"No sir, I have not," Sam responded. "But I know he can't hide from us for long. I know you want his soul, but it's going to take a long time for that to occur."
"And you're telling me this because?" the doctor asked.
"Because he's different, even you know this," Sam explained. "He's not fully human, and he's not fully a robot either."
"That's impossible," the doctor complained. "Then again, you're right," he continued. "Something about him feels strange. I touched his soul, but it took a while to get to. It's like someone blocked that part of him to avoid others going after his soul." I tried to sneak a glance at the two figures standing right by the table, keeping my head down as much as I could. Sure it was going to get impossible to hide, but I needed to know if they had a plan, if that was the case then I am not looking forward to trying to defeat them and arrest the doctor and his mistress for voodoo and soul stealing. I know, that sounds kind of stupid, but during this time it was the only way. "Sam, do you know what the mistress created me from?"
"Do you seriously need to go through that all over again?" Sam complained. I kept my mouth shut and covered it with my hand, preventing any sort of chance for the dicks to hear me.
"Yes, I will continue to do it until you listen." the doctor complained. "She searched for my grave and when she discovered me, she dug through until she found my bones. Using her magical powers, she created me a new body, and that was when I owed it to her to help," he continued. "Now then, we need to find that stranger before something else goes wrong. He's already defeated two dolls." A long pause. For a while, no one said anything. I wondered if they were plotting something and wished that I could hear their own thoughts.
"How do you suggest we go through with this?" Sam asked.
"I think it's time we get the worst doll to chase after him." the doctor suggested.
"No.. you mean.." Sam began.
"Yes. That is exactly who I mean," he said. "Now come Samuel, let's go get the doll ready to go." they turned and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
