Chapter Four: Problems

I did not expect the woman I was trying to catch sneak up behind me. It was like I was on radar, or that she was expecting me to come out of that strange room. I turned and pulled my hands up, ready to defend myself and take down the witch that might have taken my brother.

"Why are you here, dearie?" the old woman said. "I bet that's what you're wondering."

"Lady," I said. "I should ask you that question. Now how about you come with me peacefully and then we can talk." the woman paused, walking around me like I was more of meal or her next victim. I readied myself in case she attacked, but she simply laughed. She didn't even want to attack me, I didn't quite know what to make of that, but when she snapped her fingers all I could feel was stiffness and the next thing I knew I was forced onto the couch right next to the creepy doll. The woman kept her hand on me and I struggled to get off the couch. Something wasn't right about the entire situation, and that this woman looked vaguely familiar, which worried me for a few minutes since I hadn't seen her before.

"Now, now," the woman said. "I thought your parents taught you some manners? I brought you into this house for a place to stay and you thank me by trying to arrest me?" I tried to push myself off the couch, but the woman's powers kept me in place. "I know why you've come here, and besides, don't you think you need to be more polite?"

"Not when I have to deal with witches like you." I respond.

"Sweetie, I know who you are, and now you'll know me," she said. "My name is Linda, and I'm going to be your hostess."

"You know, you're starting out to be a bad hostess." I growled. "If you were a good hostess, then you would have been a little politer than you are now."

"I know you're looking for your brother, though." She said, causing me to pause and glance at her. "I have a little proposition for you Dean, I'm going out for a few days and I need you to watch this house and my special little teacup." She pulled her hand away, and I gasped, finally free from her hold. Linda was strong for a witch. Normally, my abilities would have taken over and fought back, but whatever power she held was strong enough to keep me and my abilities at bay. It also didn't add to the fact that I had to watch the house and watch something that I didn't think would even need to be watched. "Now follow me. If you can survive a whole month and a half here, then maybe I'll help you figure out what happened to him." I was close to saying something but that changed as soon as Linda walked out of the house, leaving me alone in the house with creepy doll central. This was mostly ridiculous. I came to New Orleans to hunt down a criminal but I am not even close to figuring out who's behind the use of Voodoo dolls. My only assumption had to be Linda, but I could have been wrong. I shook my head. No way was I going to sit around this damn house whoever was behind all the voodooing I would not give up.

Pushing myself from the couch, I started making my way through the halls, using mostly my senses to guide me. I walked down the hall until I passed by the door. I paused and turned toward it. The door was dead bolted shut like Linda didn't want anyone in there. I walked over to it and tried to pull it open, but it wouldn't budge. I remembered a few of my abilities, one of which helps me sense where the key was hidden. I placed my hand on the doorknob and closed my eyes instantly. I was pulled into a brief vision and heading down the hall; it was rough at first but I eventually got the hang of it. I followed the vision until it showed me a grandfather clock and inside hanging on a hook was the deadbolt key. I opened my eyes and nearly toppled over as if it hadn't been for my hand being on the door handle.

Knowing exactly where the keys were, I turned away from the door and took off down the hall until eventually I came across the same old grandfather clock I saw in my vision. I smirked and walked over to it. Grabbing the clock's door, I pulled it open and reached inside until I felt something cool in my hands and slightly rusty. Removing the key from the hook, I closed the door and walked back to the dead bolted one. The key in my hand was old and rustic, almost like it wasn't used in a good while. I inserted the key into the lock and turned it. The deadbolt fell off, unlocking the door.

"Bingo!" I said, and opened the door. Inside, it was nothing more than darkness the minute I stepped inside. I felt the walls for a light switch. It took a while, but I found it eventually. However, as I got ready to turn it on, I kicked something which made strange noises.

"Mama! Mama!" the voice cried. I turned on the light and stepped back to find that I was in a room full of creepy dolls. The one I kicked was moving around on the floor, but the cries became deeper and I backed away, only to feel a hand grab me and drag me out of the room. I kicked and pushed as much as I could before the door slammed shut. I turned around and came face to face with a young boy dressed in strange clothes.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" he exclaimed. Surprised I couldn't help but notice the boy had dark brown eyes and brown hair. If I wasn't mistaken, he looked exactly like my brother who had gone missing.
