Only Just Begun

Oracle joined with the other half of Echo Team, moving out around the warehouse. Moonshine went with her as they spread out, making sure to stay in teams of two.

It was eerily quiet as Oracle made her way deeper into the shipping crates, no voices or gunshots ringing through the night.

Suddenly Oracle saw a shadow and shot, the Necron soldier falling to the concrete, dead. Oracle moved through the crates, checking every corner, scanning above them.

From behind them she heard footsteps and turned just in time to see two men materialize from the darkness.

Oracle and Moonshine took them out, hearing other gunshots from within the maze of crates. Shouts and cries of pain echoed through the night, the sounds of a battle just beginning.

Oracle took out two other soldiers before silence fell again. She tried to calm her pounding heart, keeping her rifle raised.

Her finger moved to the trigger as she felt Moonshine tense beside her in the darkness.

"Soldiers, behind and in front," she said, nodding, "six of them."

Oracle nodded, taking aim, she looked around the corner of a crate and was met with a hail of bullets. She pressed her back to the metal crate, Moonshine beside her.

They shared a look before they each took a side, downing the soldiers quickly, clearing a path. Oracle spun around quickly, raising her rifle.

She came face to face with another bounty hunter approaching her from behind.

They raised their hands, but Oracle kept her weapon trained on them.

"Rogue?" She asked.

"Rogue." He answered.

"What squad?"

"Alpha."

"You're codename?"

"Adler."

Oracle lowered her rifle, still watching him as he came closer. Moonshine appeared from around one of the crates, blood spattered across her chest plate.

"Where is your squad?" Asked Oracle.

"Up ahead, I fell back to deal with soldiers that were tailing us."

Oracle nodded, moving forward. They needed to find and meet back up with Mirage. Together they walked forward, checking every shadowed corner.

Oracle stopped when she heard something hit the top of one of the metal shipping containers, looking up.

She watched, seeing a shadow pass above them.

"They're above us," she said, angling her rifle so she could see the edge of the crates.

Moonshine and Adler did the same, looking up but not seeing anyone.

"They're moving around above us, be careful,-"

Her sentence was cut off as she heard something metal hit the ground. It only took her a few moments to figure out what it was.

"Grenade!" She yelled, shoving Moonshine and the other man inside one of the crates.

She felt something slice across her arm as she made it inside the container. Oracle covered her head as the explosion passed, bits of metal pinging off the concrete and raining down on the container.

When it had stopped she listened, hearing voices outside. She grabbed her rifle off the floor and pressed her back to the metal, watching.

The shot as they attempted to enter, then signaled for them to get out of the other side before they decided to use another grenade.

"They're above us using grenades, be warned, stay alert." She said.

"Heard and understood." Answered Mirage.

In the distance she heard another grenade go off, the sound of armored feet on concrete getting closer.

Oracle spotted a place where the boxes were stacked unevenly, providing a gap just big enough to get her foot into.

The grenade strategy seemed to be working in their enemies' favor, why not use it against them? Oracle slung her assault rifle over her shoulder and hoisted herself up and over the first crate, jumping up and reaching for the next one.

"What are you doing?" Asked Moonshine, watching her.

"Using their strategy against them." Answered Oracle, pulling herself up even higher.

Moonshine paused for a second, then followed her on the other stack of crates. The other bounty hunter followed suit, following behind Oracle.

When she was up she reached down and helped Adler up. Oracle took a grenade from off her belt, holding it in her hand.

She looked to where Moonshine held one in her hand, her form a silver phantom in the moonlit night. They shared a small nod and then split off, running across the tops of the containers.

"We're above you." Said Oracle.

"We're giving our enemy something to remember."

Oracle pulled the pin and dropped the grenade into the group of soldiers who had been following close behind them, taking out a good chunk of them.

She grabbed another one and leapt across to another stack, her black armor making her practically invisible.

Oracle made sure that there wasn't any friendlies in the blast radius, making sure to warn them before dropping it.

Oracle fell into an focused headspace, the rhythmic sound of her feet against the metal and the sound of gunfire the only sounds greeting her.

She looked at where Moonshine was across from her, and she got her attention.

"Think you could spare me a grenade?" She asked, jumping across a gap.

"Of course." Said Moonshine.

The white-armored bounty hunter took a grenade and threw it across the gap. Oracle reached out and caught it, taking off running again.

She dropped it on one more group of soldiers before a sniper bullet bounced off the metal three feet in front of her.

Her heart leapt and she ducked behind a container as another bullet hit the corner of her hiding spot.

"I've got a sniper on me." Oracle said, peeking out from behind the container.

Another shot whizzed by her head and she jerked backwards, her heart pounding in her ears.

"They have me pinned."

"I've got another one on me." Moonshine said.

"From the North."

"I've got you." Oracle heard Deadshot answer.

"I see them."

Oracle heard the unmistakable sound of a Nightstalker Sniper Rifle to her right, and saw the faint outline of a shadowy figure laying prone on one of the crates.

"Sniper down." He said.

"Copied." Said Oracle, moving from her hiding spot.

Oracle saw Adler on the other container. He stopped, judging the distance between the containers.

She gestured, telling him to jump. She held out her hands and he grabbed them, Oracle beginning to pull him up.

Suddenly she heard another sniper shot ring out and she watched as Adler's faceplate shattered, spraying blood over her visor and chest plate.

"Shit!" She cried, letting go of him.

She stood, stumbling backwards, running to the nearest hiding spot.

"Adler's down! There's another sniper!" She said, calming her breathing as she crouched behind the container.

She tried to get the blood off her visor, but she only succeeded in smearing it. Oracle growled in frustration, taking her helmet off and getting her sniper out.

She looked around the side of the crate, scanning the crates and warehouses with the thermal scope.

Oracle paused when she found the sniper, resting the crosshairs over their red and orange form. She took the shot, hitting him in the head.

She then put her sniper on her back again and climbed down. Being up high was far too dangerous.

Oracle managed to clean enough blood off of the visor to make it wearable, and put it back on. Now it was quiet, too quiet.

Oracle made her way down the narrow passage made of crates, scanning the darkness. Suddenly someone came up behind her, wrapping their arms around her neck.

She fought them, managing to break free. She fell to the ground and gasped for breath, her throat burning.

Oracle got to her feet, turning to face whoever had attacked, rifle raised. It was one of Reclaimer's bounty hunters.

She tried to shoot but before she could a cable shot from the bounty hunter's wrist, wrapping itself around her ankle.

They pulled, yanking her off her feet, her rifle flying through the air. Oracle struggled to get her combat blade out, managing to get it out of the sheath.

It took her several seconds to cut the cable as the hunter dragged her towards them, and she scrambled backwards. Her weapon was out of reach however, and she only had a combat blade.

Oracle watched as her enemy's head was jerked backwards by what seemed to be an invisible force, raising their hands to their neck.

It seemed as though something was there, but Oracle couldn't see anyone. The hunter cried out as something connected with their stomach and then two shots rang out.

Her enemy slumped to the ground, dead, killed by an invisible soldier. She watched as the figure of Mirage materialized before her, his armor coming out of camouflage.

He reached out and she took his hand, letting him pull her to her feet.

"Are you hurt?" He asked, looking at the blood spattered across her armor.

"No," she said.

"Good," he said, turning to where Moonshine and the others waited.

Other squads came and met with them, and Mirage told them that they had taken the storage yard.

"We can use it as our base of operations," he said, "which means we need to three squads to guard it. Alpha, Charlie and Beta Squads will have that job."

He gazed at each Squad Leader, Captain and Fireteam Leader as he said this, making sure they understood.

"We won this battle, but expect anything. Remember that this has only just begun."

With those words Mirage left them to clear the insides of the containers and set up the camp.
