When two people love each other, everything seems against them. When two people are in love, everything seems for them. - unknown

"no ma, we're checking in now," aria grumbles, folding her arms, as she talks to her mother on the phone. "i'll be fine! i'm with shawn anyway."

"i know, but i can't help to worry," her mother responds, making aria smile gently. "pass the phone onto shawn, please."

"sure thing," she says. "see you soon mum, i love you."

"i love you more baby, stay safe," she responds, as aria takes her phone from her ear, seeing shawn finishing up with checking in. he thanks the worker, taking their passports back, along with the printed tickets, and the labels for heir carry ons.

"shawn, my mum wants to talk to you," aria says, handing him her phone. he smiles gently, taking her phone, and talking to her mother.

"hi mrs tate, how are you?" shawn asks politely, as the two of them walk further into the airport.

"i'm good, thank you. how are you, shawn?" mrs tate responds with a chuckle. "and how many times now? it's ashley, shawn."

"sorry, ashley," he chuckles. "i'm great, thanks!"

"good!" ashley responds, making shawn smile. "listen shawn, i know you bought her the tickets, and i know you're responsible and everything, but please keep my daughter happy and safe. i trust you, and so does her father, we just want the best for her. i know you love her, and i know you won't try anything, but i just have to make sure," she says to shawn gently, making him smile sadly.

"ashley, i assure you, i love your daughter. i will do everything to keep her safe, and protect her, she'll be safe with me. the place we're staying at has security too, and i'm certain it's completely safe," he explains.

"i'm so happy she found someone like you," ashley sighs, making shawn chuckle and smile wider. "have fun on the trip, and i'll see you guys when you get back then. oh, and happy birthday for tuesday!"

"thank you," shawn chuckles. "see you soon." he hangs up the phone, handing it back to aria, who slides her phone back into her pocket, linking her hand with shawns, whilst the two of them walk straight into the first class lounge, not needing to go through the normal security section.

"i love your mum," shawn says randomly, making a laugh spill out of arias lips. "i'm not kidding. she's so sweet."

"you're so random," she giggles, as the two of them line up in the private security line. "she loves you more than me sometimes."

"sometimes?"

"she hated you when we were broken up, but then she saw you come on my birthday, and all of a sudden she started loving you again, and kept telling me to talk to you," shawn frowns gently, but continues listening to aria. "i think if she didn't help me see the light, i probably wouldn't be here with you. i would probably still be ignorant about it."

"well, i'm glad she did," shawn says softly, placing his backpack into one of the grey trays. "but aria, can we not talk about this? i don't want to look at the past. i want to look at the future with you."

"i'm sorry," she mumbles, squeezing his hand softly. "i promise, i'll stop talking about it."

"no, don't apologise, it's just i made the worst decision of my life, and i don't want to be reminded about it," he says gently, letting go of her hand, kissing her forehead lightly, before taking his shoes and belt off, putting them into another tray, along with any jewellery he's wearing.

aria sighs lightly, following him through the security gates, passing through, and collecting her things, slipping her shoes on. she decides to completely ignore shawns reaction, and move on with the trip, considering that she really doesn't want to argue with shawn, or jeopardise their relationship more.

"come on, let's go get a coffee, yeah?" shawn asks her, cupping one of her cheeks, and sending her a gentle smile. "aria, seriously, please don't start this." he says, slightly more firmer to her.

"i'm not starting anything," she argues, folding her arms against her chest.

"yes you are, you have that pissed off look on your face," shawn mutters, the two of them walking side by side.

"oh for goodness sake shawn, we're leaving the country in about two hours and you want to pick a fight now? just fucking drop it, i'm not fucking pissed off," she shoots back, making shawn roll his eyes.

"you clearly are if you're talking to me like that," he mutters, as aria sighs angrily, glaring at shawn. "god, i wish i didn't write that fucking letter to you." shawn mumbles, thinking aria didn't hear him at all.

but she did, and her heart completely broke. she felt empty, like she was worthless, all because of one thing shawn said. the tears welled up in her eyes, and she stopped in her tracks, just looking at him in confusion. when he doesn't acknowledge that she's five steps behind him, aria speeds up a little, blinking back her tears, and following shawn to the first class lounge.

"what do you want?" shawn sighs, as they stop in front of a coffee shop.

"nothing, i'm fine," she says gently, as shawn nods, going into the café to order himself a drink.

aria goes to sit down in the little waiting area for their gate, along with the other six or seven people sitting in first class with them. shawn comes back moments after, taking a seat next to aria, and pulling his phone out of his pocket.

aria stayed quiet the entire journey there.
-
shawn scrolled through his phone, sitting on the edge of the white sheeted bed, which looks out to the balcony, which has an incredible view of the coast and surrounding islands. he sees aria still sitting outside, and sighs gently to himself, thinking that he should go and talk to her, at least. after all, she hadn't said a word to shawn after their small fight in the airport.

"hey trouble," shawn says softly, opening the balcony doors, and sitting down next to aria on one of the loungers. "is everything okay?"

"hmm," she hums in response, taking in the suns rays, as her sunglasses rest over her face.

"i'm sorry for snapping at you," he says to her, reaching for her hand, and placing their joint hands on his lap. "i really didn't mean to."

"yeah," she croaks out, not helping the tears that slip out of her eyes, down her cheeks, and not staying in the boundaries of her sunglasses.

"holy shit, are you crying?" shawn asks gently, squeezing her hand. "don't cry, gorgeous. i'm sorry."

"you're sorry that you regret arguing with me, or are you sorry that you even wrote that letter in the first place?" she mutters, pulling her hand away, and wiping her tears. she scoffs, standing up from the lounger, and walks back into the hotel room, slipping off her bikini coverup, and grabbing a fresh set of pyjamas and underwear, along with a towel so she can shower.

"aria, i don't get what you mean. why are you saying that?" shawn interrogates, following her like a lost puppy to the bathroom. she scoffs once more, shutting the door, and locking it, so shawn can't get in. "aria?" he asks softly, knocking on the door.

"leave me alone!" she yells, wiping away her tears furiously, starting the shower up.

"no, i'm not gonna, aria, you're scaring me," shawn responds gently. "open the door, baby. please?"

she sighs, wrapping the towel around her, and opening up the door, seeing shawn standing there, concern written all over his face, and worry consuming him.

"aria, hey, what's up?" shawn asks, leaning against the door frame, as she folds her arms, wiping her cheeks once more.

"you said, and i don't think you know that i heard, that you wished you didn't write that letter to me," she mumbles, taking a step back. "now please, leave me alone, and let me shower." she mutters, shutting the door, and locking it, leaving shawn completely guilty on the other side.

"shit," he whispers to himself, before walking back to the bed, and sitting down. aria will at least be twenty minutes, so he has twenty minutes to think about what he could do to apologise. it won't be enough by simply saying sorry.

he scribbles down a quick note just in case he wouldn't be back on time, and puts it down on the bed, telling aria that he's gone out. he races out of the hotel room, and straight out of the hotel, facing the warm evening sun. he sees a market that's still open to his right, and considers buying some sort of picnic for dinner. he decides to purchase a baguette, some cheese, grapes, dark chocolate, and white wine. he ends up finding a shack that sells tapestries, so he finds a round one, and buys that, along with a small ring that an old woman was selling in another stall.

he takes everything he bought back up to the hotel, unlocking the room door, and seeing aria asleep on the bed, or more rather, lying down and pretending to be asleep so shawn won't bother her. shawn takes this as a prime opportunity to set everything up on the balcony of their suite. he eagerly walks outside, laying down the rug, placing the bag of food on top of it, along with the wine, and two glasses he found in the hotel room.

after everything is to his liking, he shuffles one of his playlists, placing his phone down next to the rug, before walking back into the room, sitting down next to aria.

"i know you're awake," he begins, a small smile toying on his lips. "but i made you something. i'm outside if you want some food, okay?"

she doesn't respond, and instead continues to keep her eyes perfectly shut.

"i love you aria, and i'm so sorry," he says softly, before standing up, and walking outside, sitting down on the rug, and looking out to the sea.

how could he even mess up a holiday whilst being in their home country? he finally got her back, and he had to go and mess it up. he runs his hand through his hair, as john mayers gravity echoes in the distance. the waves lap up underneath the balcony, making the evening that much more magical. the sun sets, casting the sky into an orange paradise, as shawn continues to look forward, not wanting to look back and be disappointed.

aria sighs gently to herself, looking out of the door, seeing shawn sitting on a rug. she might as well go outside and talk to him at least. she sighs again, standing up from the bed, slipping on a pair of flip flops, and walking outside, sitting down next to shawn.

"hey," he says, noticing her. he suddenly feels more optimistic, and puts a sad smile on his face.

"hey hun," she replies, moving closer towards him, leaning her head on his shoulder. "i'm sorry for overreacting." she mumbles, as shawn bites his lower lip, wrapping his arm around her.

"i'm sorry for even saying what i did, it was completely out of order, and i'm sorry for that," shawn says gently to her, as she bites her bottom lip, looking up from shawns shoulder. "anyway, i brought us some food, i hope you don't mind cheese baguettes, grapes and chocolate."
