Chapter VIII

I didn't know what to say to him. I've never met any werewolves before. I think. But everything was just so confusing. It took me a few minutes to think trough everything. "Amelia, say something." Dimitri said, making me look up at him. But I couldn't find my voice. Why would a werewolf be looking for me?

I looked down at my hands. "I,-" I tried, but choked on my words. I don't know how I really felt. Was I scared, afraid if he'll believe me or not, or just confused? "I've never met a werewolf." I said slowly, knowing that he might be listening to my heartbeat, but I wasn't lying. "Maybe he was looking for someone else that has the same name as me." I mumbled, looking up at him, but Dimitri was staring at me so intently, listening to me carefully that made me blush and look down again.

He puffed. "Maybe," He said and then silence took over for a minute. I felt him putting away a stand of hair away from my face, almost making me close my eyes. His touch was so gentle, soft that it felt just unreal. His hand moved to my chin, making me meet his eyes again. "I'm sorry if I upset you. It's just the whole situation was odd." He said quietly, and caressed my cheek. That was it. I closed my eyes under his touch and opening them I tried offering a smile, but I think I failed miserably.

I saw him leaning in, but I was too distracted to think anything. My mind was telling me to move away, to have nothing with this gorgeous Vampire Prince, but my heart was telling me to stay. I remembered how good it felt when he kissed me the night before. And right now, I couldn't resist him. He brushed his lips against mine before he crossed the small space of air between us and kissed me. And once again, I gave in. His lips were soft, smooth and warm, taking over mine. I felt the kiss all the way to my toes.

When he pulled away, his beautiful emerald eyes were glinting from the brightness of the moonlight that was shining from outside the windows. And I felt it all over again. I felt the butterflies in my stomach, the way my heart fluttered just by his touch, the way he looked at me like no one else had ever did. I bit my lip, doing my best not to tell him everything. I couldn't. "God," He said with a husky voice, caressing my cheek with his thumb. He slowly leaned back on the headboard of the bed, shutting his eyes, like he was in pain. My heart was still trembling from the kiss, but I didn't know what had gotten into him.

"Dimitri," I whispered softly, putting my hand on his face. I had no idea why I did it or where I got the courage from, but it's like I wasn't even aware of my own actions. He opened his eyes when he felt my hand and I offered him a weak smile.

Dimitri covered my hand with his, and then brought it back down, intertwining our fingers together. Electricity went trough my whole body, almost making me pull away but after a second, I relaxed under his warm hand. But he just looked down at our hands, and I'm pretty sure he didn't felt that electricity. It was weird, but whenever our hands touched, I felt it. "Who are you?" His words surprised me, instantly making me feel a knot form in my throat. "What are you doing to me? Cause I can't seem to get you out of my head for even a second." He said quietly, but there was edge in his voice, anger. Like he couldn't hold it in anymore.

His hand never left mine, which surprised me, cause I was seriously starting to panic. What if he asks me about my early life? I can't lie to him. He'll know. I looked up at him, meeting his eyes, but there was warmth, gentleness in them that I never saw in any vampire before. I opened my mouth to say something, but I had no idea what I was supposed to tell him after what he just said. I bit my lip instead, trying to think about what to say. But he just chuckled at me, and tighten his grip. "There is something about you. Something special. I know it." His voice was firm and I felt him slowly pulling into his arms. I usually relax, but his words just made me worried. Oh, if he just knew. But there was something about him too. Something different than others.

I felt him slowly pulling away. "Come." He said and stood up from the bed, not letting go of my hand. I frowned in confusion, but just followed him. It was probably past 10 and the lights were already out. But that didn't seem to bother him. He walked outside in the hallway, only the moonlight from the windows brightening out path as he continued towards the last door in the hallway. The door that leads in the Secret Garden. As soon as we climbed the stairs, he led me inside, closing the glass door behind.

Dimitri's POV

I noticed her confused expression as I continued leading her in the garden, but passed the old stairs. I couldn't help but smile. But, gosh, I had to get her out of the bedroom. I was loosing it. When she looked at me with those beautiful hazel eyes, the way they stared into mine, made the strong desire I felt for her knotted in my stomach. Her warm gentle touch, her soft lips... I was fighting for control. The need to take her right there was an overtaking reason, but I didn't want to scare her. And the words came flowing out. The truth. There was something about her. Something that made her irresistible from the second I saw her. But she was scared. I could sense her fear from a mile away. She didn't believe my words. She didn't think it was real.

That's why I tried my best to show her that I wouldn't hurt her. I had slaves before. I knew how to deal with them. But she was something different. I couldn't hurt her. She was this beautiful gentle human, so innocent, so breathtaking. I was scared that I might hurt her just by holding her hand too tightly. Every time she looked at me with her sparkling cat shaped eyes, I felt like I had to have her.

Just like the night at the ball. She stood out. All I could do was stare at her with rapt attention. At first, I thought it was just her beauty that was making me want her, but spending yesterday with her made me realize that there was so much more to that. The way she was scared, but at the same time full with confidence. Shy and blushing, making her look even more innocent and pure. I wanted that. All of it.

I walked trough the garden, leading her behind. This place was like a mini jungle. But I knew she liked it here before. I continued till we reached the small meadow that was placed right in the middle of the garden. It was the center of the whole castle. I saw her amused look, her eyes sparkling as they looked around. She showed no emotion before, but I was starting to get it out of her. I lied down on the green glass as the plants were surrounding the small meadow. She was the first one I was showing this to. And I had no clue why, but I trusted her. There was good in her that amused me.

I noticed she was still standing, still looking around in awe, earning a grin from me. She noticed me smiling at her and she bit her lip. I realized it was a habit of hers. I reached my hand for her, seeing her clearly struggling with her emotions. It was all in her eyes. As soon as I felt her hand in mine, I pulled her slightly, making her stumble and fall on top of me. Her small figure couldn't even cover the half of mine. I held her still, staring at her eyes, her face, just her. I chuckled seeing her blush as she slowly rolled over, lying next to me.

And that was the reaction I was dying to see. When she saw the glass ceiling, the stars twinkling and the moon shining bright from above, her eyes soften. I had a full view of her. Her dark brown hair spread around her as her pink lips were slightly opened in awe. I have seen roses, red and white, but she was far more beautiful than anything I had ever seen. Holding my breath, I admired. A secret smile appeared on her kissable lips. Concentrate on something else. I waited a beat before I asked.

"You like it?" It's been silent enough, but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed watching her in silence.

She looked back at me, the smile never leaving her lips. "I love it." I could hear her heart beat with excitement. It wasn't fear, it was excitement. "Aren't we breaking the rules by being here at this time of the night?"  Her voice was quiet, sweet, soft, like a serenade to my heart.

I smiled as our eyes met again. "A few, but it can be our little secret." I noticed her expression turn into more serious at my words. But I had no idea if I said something to upset her. I saw this human girl a few days ago. This scared girl that had no idea what was going on. And the moment I saw her, I wanted her. Just her. But that was the thing. I didn't know why. I've spent years travelling, meeting vampires, humans, but not once I had let myself feel. But she was something else. I couldn't help it.

I cleared my throat silently. "So, tell me about yourself." I asked. I wanted to know more. I had to know more about this human that made my whole world go upside down the second I saw her.

She took her eyes off the sky above and looked at me. "What would you like to know, Master?" I gave her a meaningful look. I've told her before. I didn't want her calling me that. When my previous slaves called me 'Master' it made me feel more powerful. It filled me in some sort of way. But hearing it from her just reminded me how different we were. How far away she was from me. And I hated it. I noticed she was getting nervous, playing with her hands that were resting on her stomach. "Sorry, Dimitri," She mumbled looking up at me.

I reached for her hand. I felt secure holding her hand. Ever since Christian attacked her, I couldn't let myself feel that fear again. Fear of losing her. I thought she was gonna die in my arms, and I just started feeling again. I couldn't loose that. As soon as I touched her, I felt her shiver. But she gave in. Intertwining our fingers together, I went on. "I don't know, like what do you like to do? Beside playing in the woods," I added earning a chuckle from her.

"Uh, I" She stopped, thinking. "I love reading. I used to do it all the time." She said simply. And I remembered. I saw her reading the book from Vincent Symons yesterday when I walked in. It was my favorite book. I smiled at the thought of her liking the same thing as me.

"You like 'Muted by light'? I saw you reading it yesterday." I explained quietly, changing position so I was popped up on my side and looking at her.

"Yes. It's actually really familiar. I might have read it before." She answered softly, looking at with with those wide hazel eyes.

I smiled. I couldn't help it. "What else? Other than reading?" I added, seeing her starting to think again. She was really trying hard to give me the right answer, but I just wanted to get to know her better.

"I, um-" She started, but it looked like she lost her thoughts. She was probably surprised by my questions.

"Do you have a family?" I asked her quietly, but her face turned more serious and she looked on the side. She banished the emotions from her eyes, making me lost again. After a few seconds she nodded slightly as I noticed a tear roll down her cheek, but she quickly wiped it and sat up. She must miss them, I thought. She was once again concentrating on her hands, but I sat up, moved closer beside her and touched her back slowly, showing her that I was there for her if she needed me. She jumped slightly at my touch, not expecting it. I could hear her heartbeat raised, upset, scared. I put my arm around her, rubbing her upper arm slowly as I felt her relax under my touch.

"I'm sorry. I get that it's a sensitive subject. I shouldn't have asked." I wiped a few tears that were slowly rolling down her pinkish cheeks.

She shook her head. "It's okay." She said breathlessly, quiet as always. I played with her soft hair with my fingers as she leaned her head on my shoulder. She was so vulnerable, so pure. I couldn't get enough of her face, her touch, her lips-

"Do you trust me?" I whispered. I had no idea how that question popped in my head, but I wanted to know. It was unconsciously.

She glanced up at me, surprised as I tried to keep my eyes down. But I couldn't help it. It was stronger than me. I looked at her, meeting her beautiful eyes again as they held secrets. They held so many unsaid secrets that gave me the urge to want to know even more about her. "I-," She mumbled, taking her eyes off mine and looking down. "I don't know." Her eyes shot up, realizing that I haven't stopped looking at her. I just nodded my head in response. Of course she didn't trust me. I bought her as my slave and my brother almost killed her a few nights ago.

I touched her hand, wanting to hold her again. Holding her hand gave me some kind of a comfort that I didn't seem to understand, but I loved it. She gave in, letting my hand swallow her small one. I could hear her heartbeat slowing down under my touch and I pulled her closer so she would lean in again. She rested her head right where my heart was beating, and I heard her breaths calming down. Even though silence took over, I couldn't stop thinking about her. Maybe she felt the same, I thought. Her heartbeat was slowing down, showing me that she was falling asleep. I looked down at her, watching how her long lashes threw shadows on her cheeks, how her plump lips we redish and swallow. In my arms, she looked peaceful, calmed and I loved that I had that kind of effect on her.

  Amelia's POV

I was slightly woken up by my body swaying from side to side, as if someone was carrying me. I opened my eyes a bit, and was met with darkness, except for the glow of the moonlight from the windows. I felt like my whole body was numb from tiredness and I wasn't even't fully conscious. After a few second I felt the strong arms letting go of me as I felt my body being lied on a smooth silk as a familiar smell took over. Dimitri, I though. I was in his bed, but I couldn't move much. I was barely aware.

Before my eyes completely closed, I felt the bed slowly moving and a dark figure laying beside me as the glow from the windows was fading. It was Dimitri. His cologne mint smell was stronger as if he was closer. I could hear him breathe in and out. Breathe in, breathe out. The last thing I did was smile before I lost my thoughts again and started drowning into a dreamless sleep.

I was woken up by a knock on the door. I blinked my eyes open, frowning at the bright light. I noticed Dimitri walking out of his closet and answering the door to his room. Oh my god. I'm in his room again. I fell asleep. My eyes widen as I remembered last night. He brought me to this beautiful place and I fell asleep. I was so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. I heard him talking to someone, but the voices were muted and soon after he closed the door and turned to me.

He was wearing nothing but his jeans and holding something near his bare chest. A tray with food. I tried sitting up, but my hands were still to week to jerk me up. "Good morning," He said quietly and smiled, putting the tray down on the table near the bed.

I quickly sat up, feeling embarrassed. I can't believe he woke up before me. "Good morning," I said quietly and glanced at the clock. 10:30. "Oh god," I mumbled, trying to get up, but Dimitri just grinned and walked towards me. "I'm sorry, I-" I started but he cut me off sitting on the bed beside me.

"No, you were tired last night and I wanted you to get some sleep. It's alright," He said softly, making me bite my lip. It was sweet that he wanted me to rest. I realized he was still only wearing his jeans and I felt my cheeks heat up as I looked down. "I ordered breakfast for you, before you leave. Don't leave without eating it. You barely put anything in your stomach these few days." Dimitri said standing up and walking in his closet. He ordered me breakfast?

Before I even started wondering much, he walked out, still putting on a black shirt and pulling it down, covering his hard abs. I tried looking away, but it was distracting. He didn't seem to have a problem with walking around naked. "I'm late for a meeting," He mumbled quietly after glancing at his watch and turning to leave.

"Dimitri," I tried calling after him, but my voice was quiet and insecure. I still wasn't used to calling him by his name. He heard me though, turning around. "Thank you, for last night, and," I went on. "And everything." He chuckled, once again showing off his irresistible dimples on his cheeks.

"You're welcome," He said winking and leaving the room as he closed the door behind him. After about half an hour, I changed brushed my teeth, hair, ate as much as I could, but there was just too much. I didn't have a normal breakfast like that, a rich breakfast for god knows how long. I rushed down, seeing a few other slaves on the way and of course, went straight into the schedule room. As always, I didn't have much to do, but since I was Dimitri's personal, one of my main jobs was to take care of things that include him. His clothes, his room, office, him.

But work was making the hours tick by real fast, making me loose track of time. I just finished taking care of Dimitri's office, organizing his work desk, but he wasn't there, which made my mood drop a little. I was starting to get used to him being around me. Walking out, I quietly closed the wooden door behind me as I heard someone yell. More like a scream. My head instantly moved towards that direction, but soon was followed another scream. And another. And another. I shut my eyes, knowing exactly what was going on. Someone was being punished. But I knew that whoever it was made a bad choice showing emotion, pain, cause that would just cause them to go rougher.

I didn't think much. My legs were leading me as I followed the screams. It was a guy. I reached for the knob, my hands shaking, but something inside me was pushing me to continue. Suddenly, a growl echoed and I jumped slightly. The werewolf. That must be the werewolf that was 'looking for me'. I never saw a werewolf before. How did he say my name? I opened the door slowly, realizing this was the place where I was a few days ago. The cells. I walked down the stairs, having the urge to cover my ears, but I continued walking. I felt a tear roll down my cheek from the pain this person was.

The noises were a lot louder now, but I continued walking until I saw shadows in one of the cell and hid behind the wall, listening. "I'm telling you, I don't know where she is," The guy that was in pain murmured slowly, sounding like he was gonna faint.

"I know assholes like you. I'm not stupid." A deep voice said, before doing whatever he did to make the guy scream in pain again. I shut my eyes, unable to concentrate on anything else. "Listen to me, mate. Just tell me where she is. Just tell me the truth." The other guy, I assume the guard sounded calm, but I could hear the anger in his voice.

"I don't know," He growled quietly

"You don't want to make me angry. Tell me!" The guard yelled and I heard a loud slap. I don't know why I was crying. I guess it just reminded me of 'old times'. "I'm gonna ask you again, mate," He sounded calm again. "Where's the girl?" I peeked from the wall, careful so no one would see me. The guard was standing in front of the guy, werewolf, and I couldn't quite see who it was. Just dark messy hair on top. There was another guard behind him, holding him still from behind the chair, even though he seemed tied up.

"I don't know," He repeated again, sounding quiet. His voice sounded familiar, but it was quiet and raspy, unrecognizable. He was almost interrupted by another hard slap on his face, almost falling from the chair.

"We all want the same thing, wolfie boy, don't we, huh? Differences: I think you know where she is." The guard was quiet and calmed again, but he got no response from the werewolf. "Come on!" He yelled at him, "Talk!" Another hard punch in the face was followed by that. "Where's the girl?! Where's Amelia Waldorf?!" His British accent was thick so it took me a second to register his words. I went back behind and leaned on the cold cement. My heart was no longer beating. My breath deadly caught in my throat almost making me choke. I gulped in fear, no longer registering the screams and slaps that were coming from behind the wall, in one of the cells.

I felt sick in my stomach, like I was gonna throw up any second now. But I had to know more. Why were they looking for me? I peeked again. "It's actually quite funny how you look like a human. Isn't it great?" He turned to the other guard. Even though I couldn't see who was behind him, no one deserved a treatment like this. I felt tears threatening at this guy's pain. He chuckled slightly and punched the werewolf again, earning a growl from him, but I jumped back and slightly squeaked. I quickly covered my mouth and hid behind the wall again. I no longer heard anything. They must have heard me. "Check the halls." The guard that was torturing the werewolf commanded coldly and I heard steps.

I gulped in fear and the first thing that came to my mind was to run. To leave as soon as possible. I tried being quiet as I rushed up the stairs again, and slid trough the door, hopefully unseen. I closed in quietly and continued rushing down the- now bright hallway, but my legs were giving out. Why me? I'm the hunter's daughter, I thought. Of course they would look for me. There was a war between the humans and vampires for centuries now, and my father was the one pushing in from the human side. And the royals from the other.

I leaned on the wall, feeling weak at my knees as I inhaled a deep breath. It's alright though. They don't know my face. I'm Amelia Grace now. I slightly jumped in fear when I heard the door opening from next to me. I realized I was standing next to the schedule room. Jenna walked out and smirked. I had my hand on my heart, trying to calm myself down, but frowned when I saw her odd expression.

"Hey Amelia." She smiled and continued walking, but just a few steps down the hallway, she turned around. "Oh, I almost forgot. Master was looking for you." She emphasized the word 'master'. "I think it was urgent. He seemed pretty angry." I didn't believe Jenna, but I still felt an unpleasant turn in my stomach. She gave me a sly smirk before she flipped her hair behind her shoulder and continued down the hallway.

I gulped, taking in a deep breath. I found my strength after a few seconds and headed towards Dimitri's office. It was still early noon. He wasn't finished with his work, and neither was I. My hand shook as I knocked on the door. Biting my lip, I was honestly hoping for the best. When I heard his cold tone from the inside, telling me to come on in, I exhaled and pushed the door open.

There he was, sitting on his large leather chair behind his king sized desk as his hands were firmly placed on his desk. His dirty blonde hair was slightly messy on top of his head, almost like he ran his hands trough it and his jaw was still. "You wanted to see me?" I said quietly, bringing my hands behind my back and intertwining my fingers together.

"Yes," He said with a cold tone, standing up. Oh no. Something's not right. Dimitri was never this cold with me when we were alone. He didn't take his eyes of me as he took some kind of a paperwork from his desk and walked towards me. My hands were sweating and my heart was already trying to escape my chest. I didn't know what was going on, and he still haven't spoken yet. As soon as we were a few feet away from each other, he handed me the few papers and I blankly glanced down at them. It took me a few seconds till I reached for them and took them in my hands.

The papers looked familiar. More correctly, the folder. I looked up at Dimitri, but his expression was telling me to open them. My hands shook as I turned the first page, almost like a cover of a notebook. And there it was. There I was. My heart was catching a fast rhythm as my breaths were also fasten up. This was the paperwork proving that I was a slave before. Every new page was filled with comments, praises and complains about me from every each on of my previous Master.

The piece of paper that I was holding was the only proof that I was a slave before. And there it was. right in front of me. Right in front of Dimitri. Oh god, he read this. He knew everything. Amelia Elizabeth Grace. Human. House slave, personal slave... It was all there. My hands were shaking even more that I almost dropped them, and Dimitri was standing in front of me, quiet. He was watching my every move.

I gulped, scared to look up at him. But I had to. I slowly lifted my gaze, looking up at his eyes, while mine were filled with tears. But I saw nothing. Cold, vampire look, making my knees weak from fear. He closed his eyes in frustration. I could practically feel his anger in the air around us. He went trough his hair with his hand, turned around and leaned on his desk behind, as I followed his moves carefully. He rubbed his face in frustration. "God," He murmured and then looked up at me.

"Explain yourself," His voice was raspy and firm. No emotion. Except for anger. "Who are you, Amelia?"
