*Ahaan's Pov*
"Maria aunty my coffee" I called out to my maid as I took a seat on the comfy cushion in the living room, typing away some general instruction to my secretary.
Once done, I kept the phone down rubbing my forehead trying to cease out the throbbing pain that’s been troubling me since yesterday. With all the work and paper regarding the new project and cherry on top, working with Ayesha in the upcoming weeks caused the headache to increase tenfolds.
Life is being utterly unfair to me, shocks aftershocks hasn’t let me have a peaceful sleep for what feels like years but has been only months.
“Here” The heavenly smell of the brewed drink had me revive out of my thoughts.
I thanked Maria aunty politely while sipping away my coffee. My headache subsidising as I gulped down the hot content sip by sip. Finishing the whole content, I said my salam and sat in the car to drive to my workplace.
As I parked my car and got out, my phone rang.
“Assalam alaikum” Came Ahira’s chirpy voice.
The only relief in my stress filled life was hearing my sister’s happy voice. I smiled to myself wondering what made her so happy that she is practically squealing.
“Wa alaikum salaam” I replied meanwhile nodding at the employees who were greeting me on my way to my cabin.
“Are you free for lunch?” She enquired.
“Not really” I shrugged, making a mental note of all the work that’s piled up in front of me.
“Whatever work you have leave everything and come home for lunch” She ordered as if she was my boss which she was.
“No Ahi, I really can’t. You know how busy I am since our company has taken up new project and the formality has to be kept ready by the end of this week." I reasoned.
“I know but it’s really important and moreover its been too long. You have been working without a break bhai, I am worried you will make my brother dearest sick" She sighed and I chuckled at her antics.
“Why is it really important?” I asked.
“Mom and dad wants to discuss something with us” She informed.
“With us?” I repeated confused and curious thinking about the matter.
“Yeah, something regarding Rinoz” She finished.
“Rinoz?”
“Yeah, so be there on time and I don’t want any excuses” Without letting me reply or ask more question she disconnected the call.
She said its something about Rinoz, I wonder what it is. Then it struck me, what if it was the thing I was thinking it to be? My excitement level reached to the end, my hopes skyrocketing.
All the tension and headache from before vanishing into thin air as I lived and drowned in the moment. My happiness and excitement knew no bound and I was doing every possible thing to complete my work as soon as possible and go to Ahira’s for lunch.
It was 12:30 by the time I wrapped up all the important work and handed the remaining to Myra, my secretary. Taking my phone and essentials, I headed out towards the parking lot and unlocked the car. Getting in, I ignited the engine to life and drived off to my destination.
“Assalamu alaikum” I greeted as I entered the living room, where everyone was there except for her. I looked around hoping to spot her but my attempts went in vain as I couldn’t spot her anywhere near.
“Wa alaikum salam” They all answered back.
And then uncle asked me about the current project that I had signed with haradwaj’s and all that included business making my patience level degrade with each passing seconds.
“Let’s have lunch” Ahi announced making me groan out inwardly as my curiosity was in the verge of bursting out.
We all sat in our respected seats as the maid started serving us. The food was as usual delicious with the magic of my sister and aunt’s hand.
There was no sign of Rinoz yet and hence I decided to ask my thoughts out loud.
“Where is Rinoz? I didn’t see her anywhere” I asked putting a morsel of biryani into my mouth.
“She went to her friend’s place for get together.” Ahi informed.
I nodded in response and we continued our lunch with little bit of random talks here and there. Once finished, we were all back to the living room.
“Aunty, Ahira said you called me as you wanted to discuss something about Rinoz, What is it ?” I finally asked it out loud as I was not able to keep it in me anymore. Curiosity was getting the best out of me.
“Oh, yes. There was this alliance from my friend’s son a week before. The seemed to be nice. And I personally know the family to. Ibrahim have just started handling the family business and they liked Rinoz for him and wanted our consent. As you three are an important part of our family, I wanted to inform this to you three first” Aunty informed or more like dropped a bomb on my head.
Each and every word, piercing an unhealable wound in my heart. The hope of mine that had skyrocketed a few hours ago, came back to square one shattering my heart and soul into pieces.
So, this was what I was called for. To inform that a man other than me would be perfect for Rinoz, the girl I loved since the time I came to know about the term.
“Wow! That’s perfect news dad” Ahira squealed beside me.
“Yeah, did you ask Rinoz?” Azlaan questioned.
“I am yet to ask” Aunty replied.
“What say Ahaan?” Uncle asked me.
“Huh?” I looked at him dumbfoundedly.
“Whatever Rinoz wants” I gave him a half smile.
Though I wanted to say everyone that I love her and want her to be my partner for lifetime but I held it all in. Love is letting your loved one live the life they want. And if Rinoz wants this then I am no one to stop her.
As if on cue, my phone rang. Seeing Myra's name flash on it, relief washed through me as I excused myself and attended the call.
"Ahira I got to go, something important came up" I informed them and was out in a minute.
It was suffocating in there for some reason. I dialled Myra telling her to cancel the meetings that were due today evening. I didn't feel like working or going anywhere where there would be a crowd.
Dejection took over my features. I had a little hope that maybe, I could lead a normal life filled with love. Maybe I can cherish the person I love for a lifetime. I never expressed my feelings, I was never one to express.
Losing my parents when I didn't even know anyone apart from them was the biggest heartbreak of my life. I wanted the best for my sister and hence, went through everything that came my way.
I reached the place I wanted to. The big iron gates stood like a monster in front of me guarding all the humans that slept peacefully behind the doors.
I pushed the door harshly, it opened with a screeching sound. I walked dumbfounded towards the place where my home is. Where my parents rest.
“Maa, baba, look I am back after shattering my heart into pieces.” I knelt beside the grave smiling at them.
“You won’t talk to me right?” I asked even though I know they won’t, they can’t.
“It’s been so long, since I visited you guys. Last time when I came here, it was to inform you that Ahira was getting married and you know why am I here now? To let you both know that I am married. And the girl I love dearly is going to be someone else’s. Ironic isn’t it? I married Ayesha, maa. Some rowdy’s were behind us so we had to get married in order to save ourselves.” I said as the memories came back like a flood.
“I let Rinoz go because of Ayesha. If we wouldn’t have been married then I would have asked for Rinoz’s hand”
“IT’S ALL BECAUSE OF AYESHA” I shouted wiping my tears harshly.
It was frustrating but I had to do something. I can’t let Rinoz go. I love her and I am not at any cost letting her go. I have to get rid of Ayesha.
“I will give her divorce. Rinoz hasn’t said yes yet. I still have the chance, Yes. I’ll go to Ahira’s place tomorrow and will talk to her” I said with determination.
I dialled the person that I should have done long before.
“Mr.Chatterjee, I want you to get the divorce papers ready of me and Ayesha” I informed him and disconnected the call.
“I miss you mom. Please come back. My life is a mess. Please mend it” I have had enough problems in my life. So many hardships that no one knew.
I wiped my face and eyes and went out of the graveyard. Getting inside the car, I picked up my phone and searched for Ayesha's number but was not able to find it.
Lioness, I have saved her number as lioness.
“Hello” Came her calm voice.
Something inside of me churned at the thought of giving her a divorce though I know this is what she also wanted.
“I want a divorce”
A cliff hanger? Do you think Ahaan will regret this word's of his?
