Chapter Seven

Lisanna Moore's P. O. V

The silence is palpable in the air, so much so that I have to take a deep breath since I feel almost stifled by the thickening air. The tension only being felt to me but like a shackle around my neck as my nerves start to eat away at me. From the outside I appear calm and composed but on the inside I'm a nail biting, sleeve pulling mess.

If I hadn't have been in the room this entire time and keeping a sharp eye on the man in front of me, I would have assumed he had simply fallen asleep. The steady rise and drop of his chest as he breathes in an out along with the dead stare that sends shivers down any person's spine, I'm sure anyone would have surmised that the stern Prince has simply dozed off with his eyes wide open due to the dragging silence.

Should I say something?

Is he waiting for me to say something?

Deciding that I've had enough of the impregnable silence, I lick my lips to give myself a little boost of confidence in some shape or form. Luckily for me, just as my mouth opens to speak up, the Prince decides he's thought about whatever it is, just enough as he cuts me off.

"Why you?"

Well I certainly wasn't expecting him to say something as eloquent as that.

"What do you mean sir?" I question with furrowed brows, not entirely sure how to go about his probing interview. Of course I'm going to answer him as honestly as possible since even the tiniest slip up will have my ass hauled out on an empty road after I've been fired from the company. That's the last thing on Earth that I want.

"Why were you chosen for this job? With me as a client. I want to know if your firm is serious about this because my reputation is at stake and I'm not about to let someone who doesn't know what their doing; simply come into this sphere and damage my worthwhile image. So I'll ask you once again; Why were you in particular, chosen for this job?"

His words come out meticulous and uncaring which results in me trying to hold back a frown from appearing on my face. The man does have every right to know why I was chosen and if I'll be a good match but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anyone to be just a little nicer in wording himself. The man's making it out like I'll mess up within the first hour let alone on the first day.

"Quite frankly Mr. Sinclair, I was chosen because I'm good at what I do. I'm one of the best in the firm and my boss believe I'm the right one for the job. If at any point you have any issues against what I do or how I operate then I do hope you take up the matter with my boss but I'm sure I won't give you any reason to do so." My answer comes out firm and I have to hold back the bite in my voice that desperately makes to want itself know about how touchy I am with him asking me something like that. Professionalism wins over me being simply petty.

Mr. Sinclair eyes me for a few further moments, probably deciding if he's satisfied with my answer or not. I simply stare back but don't want to seem as if I'm challenging him in any way so I try to keep the rest of my expression as soft as possible.

"Very well. You'll do for now. If I find any discrepancies while I remain your client, I'll make you'll be the first to be fired along with Ms. Washington. This is an utmost important matter and I need to make a good impression for the public." If you carry on like this, you'll be ruining your own reputation yourself.

Prince Charming? More like arrogant douchebag.

"For the both of our sakes I'll be giving this matter my one hundred and ten percent." I say stoically, not wanting him to know I have more laying on the line than he could possible know. Mr. Sinclair raises his voice loud enough to signify that Rose can come back inside but is quick to nail one final hammer in my coffin. The words putting me in between a rock and a hard place since I'm unsure what to do now.

"You are my agent, not Ms. Rose so I expect client privilege to be followed to the fullest with her only knowing what I deem necessary. Anything else and you'll be crossing the line I just warned you about moments prior." His words finish just as the unsuspecting woman enters again with that same forced smile tugging at her lips.

I myself can't stop the frown from appearing on my face as I glance discreetly from Rose and over to Mr. Sinclair, wondering how on Earth I'm going to follow anything of the sorts. Do I hold my client's right for privacy higher over the need that Rose has to know literally every step that I take when it comes to my job so that she can report back to our superiors on my operating. The serious worker in me is saying I should definitely listen to the man but it's also probably the fear of him getting to the most frightening level and getting my ass handed to me if he even catches me thinking about not listening to what he's practically ordered of me to do so.

"Of course Mr. Sinclair. I'll make sure to keep that in mind and follow it to the tee." I reply back, watching the man nod his head while Rose sends me a questioning glance which I shrug away.

Since Mr. Sinclair never said that I can't tell her about the fact that he wants only me to know his private information, I'm sure Rose and I can come up with some sort of plan where I don't break my client's privacy and she gets to do her own job of keeping an eye out for me. If need be, I'll even let Susan know so that she doesn't think I'm up to something and put me further up on her list of reasons to get me sacked.

"Is there anything else that you would like to mention? I'd like to have these things sorted out first before we get into the main, more important factors." I reiterate once more, not wanting him to blame me for not taking his own thoughts into consideration since I have a nagging feeling the man draws very thin lines when it comes to what he considers done properly and messed up beyond repair.

"As stated before, I'll let you know when either of you do something that doesn't sit well with me. You'll catch on pretty fast what I tolerate and what I do not." That doesn't sound daunting in the slightest. Even Rose sends me a wide eyed glance which I reciprocate by pulling my lips into a grim line, simply nodding along to what he says.

"Then I would advice that the first plan of action we should be taking is to set up a press conference . The certain extent of anonymity that you currently have around you is good but it'll be coming off to the public as if the royal crown has something to hide. After such a major event like this, rumours will be on the rise as they currently are and you'll have absurd speculations being made both about you and the situation that the royal family has been placed in. The public want questions to be answered and the longer it takes, the more the people are getting antsy hence I think it's in everyone's best interest that we set up a press conference as soon as possible." I finish as Mr. Sinclair nods his head, considering my suggestion which is more of a need than anything else at this point.

"What will the details entail when it comes to such a press conference?" He asks after a moments pause while I nod at his question.

"It will be your run of the mill one. You'll give a speech that will have to be approved by a few people including me and then Samantha I'm assuming since she'll be working with Rose and I on maintaining your public image in good faith. After that the news reporters which will be carefully selected will be present their and they'll ask you a few questions. This shouldn't be a cause for concern because we'll make sure that the questions they ask will also be pre selected so they won't ask anything that won't be prepared beforehand." I say the last part quickly at the end since I can tell from the furrow in his brow and the lock in his jaw that the idea of news reporters being there doesn't sit entirely too well with him.

"Will it be live or pre recorded?" Is all he says, not bothering to comment on what I know he has an issue with.

"That's something we'll have to discuss with Miss. Golding and you of course so that we can decide what would be best. Usually these matters are done live at a time given beforehand so that the nation can tune in at the precise moment but that obviously has some setbacks like room for mistakes to be made that happen in the moment and can't be avoided nor accounted for even though there are steps taken to mitigate the severity of it. I'd say the best way would be to have a pre recorded session which can come after the official statement is announced to the public." I continue smoothly, letting out an internal sigh of relief when Mr. Sinclair nods his head along with whatever it is that I'm saying. Thankfully the Prince doesn't seem to be finding any faults with me at the moment.

Jotting down a few key points in my notebook, I wait for the man to say something but as always, he chooses to lapse into silence without saying much about anything, thinking over everything before releasing his views onto us after much planing.

"When do you think it would be best to go ahead with this?" He asks before pressing a button on the fancy looking telephone placed atop his desk as he speaks into it, "Please call Miss. Golding into my office." I guess he's not totally inept at showing decent manners.

"Any day by the end of the week would be ideal so as to not prolong it by too much." I answer him again, firmly putting emphasis that the longer this goes unanswered, the more consequences we'll be facing by the time he shows his face to the public once more.

"Am I correct to assume that an official statement on behalf of the crown hasn't been drafted yet?" I ask while I dread his answer, hoping they've at least gotten started on that since it'll push the date of his appearance even more backwards. The nod of his head over steepled fingers gives me all the answer I need which has me suppressing another sigh. I'm going to be having a full head of grey hairs by the end of this meeting let alone by the end of my company's contract with this man.

"You called for me Mr. Sinclair?" Comes Samantha's voice after she knocks on the door, the woman poking her head through the gap as he waves her in, his body language much more at ease around her and not like he's about to shoot icicles at her that he's formed with his very own eyes.

"Ms. Lore mentioned that we should hold a press conference to answer whatever questions  the public has about me while also explaining the situation a bit. She said we should best do this by the end of this week. How possible will that be and we also need to discuss the details surrounding this." The deadpan expression is most probably as clear as day on my face while I have to loosen the grip of my teeth as they gnaw fiery on my tongue, each cell within me insistently itching me to correct him on the lack of correctness he's displayed with my name.

I want to become as petty as possible and come to the conclusion that this man doesn't like me nor does he care for niceties when it comes to Rose and I. Maybe I've rubbed the man the wrong way but I can't for the life of me think how I could have possibly done that since I've barely spoken to him.

I really hope first impressions aren't the last impression in my case because I can feel this client becoming my own personal hell if he truly does dislike me.

"Oh, yes. That was something very important we had to discuss. I'm glad Ms. Moore brought it up," the thankful smile I send Samantha's way doesn't go unnoticed by her as she puts emphasis on my actual last name, "However I think it would be best to discuss the details of the press conference until after an official statement has been released to the public." I nod along with her words, agreeing with them as Rose too follows our lead but looking a tiny bit out of the loop, no doubt wondering what happened when she left the room.

"Has work on the statement begun?" Mr. Sinclair asks while Samantha, thankfully, nods her head immediately.

"Yes. They've started working on it today and it should be ready to be released tomorrow after it's gotten the seal of approval." She replies to which I politely intervene.

"Could Rose and I possibly get ahold of the copy before it's released?" Samantha glances over at Mr. Sinclair for his answer and once he gives a nod of confirmation, she smiles her cheery smile.

"Of course. I'll email it to you both. I have your information on me so there's no need to fret." She admits while I thank her.

"The details of everything else will be discussed tomorrow at this same time since I'll be free only now. That'll be all." Mr. Sinclair says, look of boredom slipping onto his face once more as he glances down at the papers in front of him, practically his way of telling all of us to get lost.

Isn't he ever the charmer? And to think this man might be our future King.

"I look forward to seeing you tomorrow Lisanna, Rose. Goodbye." Samantha waves at us while we both slip back into the car, Rose and I bidding her farewells before we erupt into loud sighs as soon as the car pulls away from the estate.

"I have no idea why the boss is making me keep an eye out on you because you did pretty good in there. Better than I could have done under that a-," the woman stops herself as she eyes the driver before clearing her throat and continuing, "Under that intense pressure." She finishes off lamely while I let out a low laugh, nodding my head at her words and signifying I'll let her know what Mr. Sinclair told me.

This is definitely a client that'll keep me on my toes.
