The days that followed weren't easy, but they were different. Beomgyu found himself leaning on Yeonjun more, and though it was uncomfortable at first, it was also strangely comforting. Yeonjun never pushed, never demanded more than Beomgyu could give. He simply stayed close, like a steady flame in the background, ready to provide warmth when needed.
It was during one of their quiet evenings at home that Yeonjun suggested something that surprised Beomgyu.
"Why don't you spend more time with Kai?" Yeonjun asked, setting a cup of tea on the table in front of Beomgyu.
Beomgyu blinked up at him. "Kai?"
Yeonjun shrugged, sitting down beside him. "He's good at making people feel at ease. And, well, I think you two could help each other. Besides, he's always talking about how much he wants to hang out with you."
Beomgyu hesitated but eventually agreed.
Kai was a breath of fresh air. His bright energy and easygoing personality made it hard for Beomgyu to stay closed off. Over bowls of steaming ramen and binge-watching cheesy BL dramas, the two found a surprising bond. Kai's unabashed enthusiasm for everything was infectious, and Beomgyu found himself laughing more often.
One night, as they sat on the couch, bowls of ramen long forgotten, Kai turned to Beomgyu with a smile.
"You know," Kai said, nudging him playfully, "I think you're pretty cool. You just need to see it too."
Beomgyu rolled his eyes, but there was a faint blush on his cheeks. "Thanks, I guess."
They both burst into laughter, the tension in Beomgyu's chest easing for the first time in what felt like forever.
Beomgyu eventually roped Taehyun into their hangouts. Beomgyu had been wary at first, unsure of how to handle Taehyun's sharp wit and calm demeanor, but it didn't take long for kai and taehyun to click.
Taehyun had a way of grounding Beomgyu, of challenging him without overwhelming him. Over time, their trio became a safe space—a place where Beomgyu could let his guard down.
When Soobin finally met Kai, it was like two worlds colliding. Beomgyu couldn't help but laugh as the two clicked instantly, bonding over their shared love of sugary snacks and their mutual ability to tease Beomgyu.
"So, you're the infamous Kai," Soobin said with a grin, handing him a lollipop.
"And you're the big brother who worries too much," Kai shot back, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
Beomgyu groaned, but the warmth in his chest couldn't be denied. For the first time in years, he felt like he had a family—one that extended beyond blood and obligation.
With each passing day, the walls Beomgyu had built around himself began to crack. The pain was still there, but it was no longer suffocating. With Yeonjun's quiet support and the bond he was forming with Kai, Taehyun, and Soobin, Beomgyu started to believe that maybe—just maybe—he could heal.
One night, as Beomgyu sat on the couch with Yeonjun, he turned to him and hesitated before speaking.
"Thank you," he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Yeonjun glanced at him, his expression gentle. "For what?"
"For not giving up on me," Beomgyu replied, his cheeks tinged with pink.
Yeonjun's smile was soft but full of meaning. "You're worth it, Beomgyu. Always."
For the first time, Beomgyu let himself believe it.
