Chapter 16

Before we dive into the next chapter, I have a quick question for you all. Are you enjoying 'From Enemies to Soulmates'? I haven't seen many comments, and I'm curious if it's resonating with you. Your feedback means a lot to me, so please let me know what you think!

Shahneel woke up early, craving the familiar comfort of a morning coffee. She quietly made her way to the kitchen, brewed a cup, and decided to check on Shubman. As she approached his room, she opened the door without thinking much, expecting to find him still asleep.

But what she saw made her freeze in place.

There, on the bed, Shubman and Sara were cuddled up, wrapped in each other's arms. The sight was so unexpected that Shahneel's hand slipped, and the coffee mug crashed to the floor, shattering the silence of the morning.

The noise jolted Shubman and Sara awake. They quickly disentangled themselves, their eyes wide in shock as they looked up to see Shahneel standing in the doorway, her expression mirroring their own surprise.

"Di!" Shubman blurted out, sitting up quickly.

Shahneel stood there, her mouth slightly open, trying to process what she had just seen. "I... I didn't know..." she stammered, her eyes darting between her brother and Sara.

Sara, flustered and still half-asleep, quickly sat up, pulling the blanket closer around her. "Shahneel, it's not what it looks like... I mean... well, it is, but..."

Shubman, trying to regain some composure, reached out to Shahneel. "Di, we were going to tell you. It's just... well, not like this."

Shahneel blinked, her shock slowly fading into a mischievous smile. "Well, this is a surprise," she said, her voice teasing but warm. "I think we need to have a little chat, don't we?"

Shubman and Sara exchanged a glance, both of them knowing that this morning was going to be a lot more interesting than they had anticipated.

Shubman and Sara exchanged nervous glances, knowing that the conversation ahead was inevitable. Shahneel, now fully awake and a bit more amused than before, stepped further into the room, carefully avoiding the spilled coffee on the floor.

"Alright," Shahneel said, crossing her arms with a raised eyebrow. "Why don't you two start explaining?"

Shubman sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Di, I'm sorry you found out like this. Sara and I have been together for a while now, but we hadn't told anyone yet... well, except for Ishan."

Sara nodded, still holding onto the blanket, her face slightly flushed. "We didn't mean to keep it a secret from you. We were just waiting for the right time."

Shahneel's expression softened as she looked at them. "I'm not upset, you two. Just surprised. I mean, it's a bit of a shock to walk in on my brother and his girlfriend cuddled up in bed first thing in the morning."

Shubman let out a small laugh, the tension in the room easing slightly. "Yeah, that's not exactly how we planned to break the news."

Shahneel sat down on the edge of the bed, her smile now fully genuine. "But honestly, I'm happy for you both. I always knew there was something special between you two. I'm just glad you finally figured it out."

Sara smiled shyly, feeling more at ease. "Thank you, Shahneel. It means a lot to us."

Shubman reached over and gave Shahneel's hand a squeeze. "I really appreciate it, Di. I've missed you so much, and I didn't want to hide this from you."

Shahneel squeezed his hand back, her eyes full of warmth. "I know, Shubi. I've missed you too. And now I get to tease you both endlessly, so that's a bonus."

They all laughed, the atmosphere in the room lightening considerably.

Shahneel stood up, giving both Shubman and Sara a quick hug. "Alright, I'll leave you two to clean up the mess I made. But let's not keep this a secret anymore, okay? Mom and Dad will be thrilled."

As Shahneel left the room, closing the door behind her, Shubman and Sara looked at each other, relief washing over them.

"Well, that went better than I expected," Sara said with a small smile.

Shubman nodded, pulling her close again. "Yeah, it did. I'm just glad she's okay with it."

Sara rested her head on his shoulder, feeling the warmth of his embrace. "Me too."

As they lay back down, cuddling once more, they both knew that this was just the beginning. But with Shahneel on their side, they felt ready to face whatever came next.

Later that morning, Shubman and Sara sat together on the couch, anxiously waiting for the right moment to reveal their relationship to Shubman's parents. Keart and Lakhwinder were in the kitchen, chatting and preparing breakfast, completely unaware of the conversation that was about to unfold.

Shahneel, already in on the secret, gave Shubman an encouraging nod from across the room. She knew how much this meant to her brother and wanted to support him every step of the way.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Shubman cleared his throat and called out, "Mom, Dad, could you come here for a minute? We need to talk to you."

Keart and Lakhwinder exchanged curious glances before joining Shubman and Sara in the living room. They sat down, their expressions warm and expectant.

"What's on your mind, beta?" Lakhwinder asked, her tone gentle.

Shubman took a deep breath, feeling Sara's hand slip into his for support. "There's something we need to tell you both... something important."

Keart and Lakhwinder leaned in, their attention fully on their son. Shahneel watched from the corner, holding her breath.

"Mom, Dad... Sara and I are together," Shubman said, his voice steady but filled with emotion. "We've been dating for a while now, and we wanted to tell you because... well, we're serious about each other."

Sara squeezed his hand, her heart racing as she looked at Keart and Lakhwinder, trying to read their expressions.

For a moment, there was silence. Then, a smile slowly spread across Lakhwinder's face. "Sara, beta, come here," she said, reaching out her arms.

Sara, relieved and a little surprised, quickly stood up and walked over to Lakhwinder, who enveloped her in a warm hug. "I'm so happy for you both," Lakhwinder whispered, her voice full of love.

Keart stood up as well, moving to Shubman's side and placing a hand on his shoulder. "I had a feeling something was going on between you two," he said with a grin. "But I'm glad you told us. Sara, you're already like a daughter to us, and now it's official."

Sara's eyes welled up with tears as she hugged Lakhwinder tighter, feeling the genuine love and acceptance in the older woman's embrace. When she pulled back, Keart stepped forward and gave her a fatherly hug as well.

"Thank you," Sara whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Thank you for accepting me."

"Of course, beta," Keart said, patting her back. "You make our son happy, and that's all we could ever ask for."

Shubman watched the scene unfold, his heart swelling with gratitude and love for his family. He knew how lucky he was to have parents who were not only supportive but also welcoming of the person he loved.

As they all sat back down, Shahneel joined them, a wide smile on her face. "Well, it looks like our family just got a little bigger," she teased, giving Sara a playful nudge.

Lakhwinder laughed, pulling both Shubman and Sara into another hug. "We're so happy for you two. This is wonderful news."

Shubman wrapped his arms around his parents, holding them close. "Thank you, Mom, Dad. It means the world to us."

Sara leaned into Shubman, feeling an overwhelming sense of belonging. She had always been close to Shubman's family, but now, knowing they fully supported her relationship with Shubman, she felt like she had truly found her place.

As they spent the rest of the day together, laughing, talking, and enjoying each other's company, Sara knew that this was just the beginning of a new chapter in her life—one filled with love, acceptance, and the unwavering support of the family she now felt so deeply a part of.
