Chapter 156- a shaky beginning

(Y/N) POV:

I straighten up, wincing at the slight tug at my back, a hand already sliding around to dive under the

loose top to splay across my back, fingers kneading and pulsing out warmth as Hobi oppa mumbles a healing charm.

"I'm sorry sweetheart, you're still hurting." He murmurs.

I shake my head, smiling as I lean against the touch.

"It's improving bit by bit. Not as bad as the first few days anyways." I insist, drawing the sheets back and carefully clambering out of bed, chest sore and heavy.

"But still! The birth was hard enough. I don't want you hurting for a moment longer." He says as he follows me off the bed, arms snaking around my waist as we slowly begin to walk forward, small halting steps.

I press a kiss to the curve of his jaw, turning back to smile against skin.

"And you are. But it's too quiet. The house is never quiet." I insist having woken from a nap with only Seokie curled up beside me, no sounds save for the rustling of sheets as I shifted and moved.

"Don't worry little one. I know for a fact that all the others will have swarmed our darling girl fussing and cooing. Poor girl can't even sleep with her dads making so much noise." He says, sighing good-naturedly.

"You're no better." I chide, digging my arm back slightly and hearing the small, obliged sound of pain he makes, a huffed 'oof' even if I've barely managed to worm my arm back properly.

"You can't blame us. You gave us the most darling treasure of a baby. How can we not appreciate mini you?" he says as we step out of the room.

I give a small laugh.

Twisting to face him even as we continue walking.

"You can't even tell if she'll look anything like me. She's too tiny and small." I insist.

He shakes his head firmly.

"We can tell. I know she's going to grow up one day and be a copy of the heart stealer her gorgeous mother is." Pressing a kiss to the back of my head as we slowly begin walking down the stairs.

Baby steps and unhurried, the house helping by lowering the step we clambered onto to bring us closer to the next. Closing the distance between them.

I can't help but reach out to fondly run my hand over the smooth wooden railing that curves around the staircase.

A light grateful touch as we walk.

"What heart stealer? I'm the one who had seven men simultaneously courting me." I say with a fond smile.

The courting had been years ago but the memories were fresh and vivid in my mind, painted across my soul. The gifts from the courting stage were all bundled up and carefully kept in a large box in my room, full and bursting with the little trinkets. The flowers Joon had given me, some still fresh and permanently in full bloom and dotted around the house in vases, and others carefully pressed between sheets, dried and preserved.

"Trust me sweet one...every time I saw you, I wanted nothing more than to rush to you. I've never quite had a drink like that hot chocolate you offered that night." He laments.

My cheeks warm.

Slightly and not as incriminatingly rosy pink, but enough that they gave me away without fail, every time.

"Liar...that was a convenience store hot chocolate! And I know for a fact Euphoria does better ones." I insist, lips stretched wide with a smile.

I feel him lean in to whisper just as we're entering the living room.

"It's special because I was the first one that our baby mate offered food to. It's special because it was you who gave it, even before you knew who we were to each other." words warming me more, pooling in my veins and making my heart squeeze, clenching around nothing.

I knew that these same words had my blood racing and exhilarated was the same as if I'd been alive and my heartbeat would've accelerated, racing away and beating wildly against my chest.

I wondered whether they knew just how much they still affected me.

How their words still had the powerful capability of turning me into a puddle, a mess.

And then we're stepping through to the living room, see as the others turn, momentarily distracted from our baby safely nestled in Minnie's arms to smile invitingly.

"Sleep well baby?" Kookie asks, toothy grin as he looks at me, hair tousled and damp.

Probably came straight out of the shower.

His eyes gleam red when we approach, waddling together because Hobi oppa is yet to let go, yet to part from me, peppering kisses to the back of my head as we move to join the others.

"I did...but I certainly remembered going to sleep with more than just one husband mate." I say, eyes drifting to see the others all bundled close on the long couch, curled together. Bodies pressed close.

"I wanted to stay jagi but baby girl started crying, so I took her to Jin hyungie before you'd wake up." Tae says apologetically, lips pouting and puckered in apology, reaching to tug me down to meet my mouth in a sweet kiss, humming against my lips.

"She might've needed feeding. You know the drill... Hae Kyungie cries when she needs feeding or settling." I say softly, smiling when Tae tugs me down to draw me between him and Minnie, curling to peek over his shoulder at our darling girl tucked close and sleeping.

Small lips parted in sleep, small puffs of breath as she sleeps, swaddled up and rosy.

"She's sleeping now though. Took a little bit of effort but we got there." Yoongi oppa says ruefully at me though his face is lit up brightly, eyes full of softness and love.

Looking a bit abashed but not enough.

Content that I got to sleep some more.

"I'm glad she can fall asleep quickly." I murmur, reaching over to brush my finger over a soft round cheek.

Darting under Minnie's raised arm to lean forward to press a kiss to her forehead, heart aching with fondness.

Joonie oppa makes a soft amused sound.

"Don't be so sure. It took the effort of all six of us to get her to drift off. She's a tough one to please." He confides.

I take another glance at her sleeping figure, lips quirked up at the way she's still and settled now.

"That's our girl." I say softly.

A hand snakes around my waist.

Squeezing lightly.

"Our girls." Tae echoes, pressing a kiss to my throat and tucking himself against me.

I liked the sound of that.

"Little one...how does an early dinner sound?" Jinnie oppa asks suddenly.

And when I twist to peer past Minnie to look at him, it's to see the flickering remnants of gold fade from his eyes.

If there's one thing I know for certain it's to take the sudden advice and suggestions he gives. Especially when his eyes flicker with a vision.

"Dinner sounds lovely. Candlelight?" I ask hopefully and see the way his eyes crinkle with fondness.

"And roses too." Joonie oppa adds.

------

Despite the advice for an early dinner, the bustle and chaos of eight people trying to navigate the same space, no matter how large, led to fumbling. Led to more than one mate tugging me down to join them at the dinner table, my arms filled with a small, swaddled baby as the others moved about.

Getting dinner ready, ambience light and sweet, the others flitting to the table, tugged over to fuss for a moment over Hae Kyung, to press kisses to temples and cheeks, chaste brushes of lips against my own.

And Joonie oppa is carefully flitting from candle to candle, light touches of his fingers that made the flames burn a tad bit bolder in colour, setting down a large, beautiful centrepiece of roses at the centre of the table. Kookie and Yoongi oppa on either side of me, happy to watch the others drift around, setting down dishes and plates and glasses.

Dinner starts off wonderful.

The soft glow of candlelight illuminating the table, feeling lighter than I had been the entire pregnancy, Hae Kyung carefully cradled within my arms and parting my lips whenever one mate or the other brought food to my lips because I didn't quite know how to manage both Hae Kyung and keep her tucked close to me securely and reach over to feed myself.

The boys didn't seem to mind. Far from it.

Eyes gleaming a deep red, the reflection of flames flickering in their eyes and lips stretched wide.

It feels simultaneously new and old, this familiarity of curving close to them, of having a hand settled low on my hip. But new. Because the air is different, crackling with newly forming bonds and the small soft weight on my lap is gentle and new, my eyes constantly flitting down to look at her.

But for all that Jinnie oppa's vision had been to help, had been used to try and get dinner going before Hae Kyungie woke up, it wasn't meant to be.

Some visions were unavoidable, were unchangeable to an extent.

And the fitful shifting and soft wailing that had our conversation stilling came from our bundled baby.

I coo, drawing her close and gently rocking her to try shush her.

But her wails don't quieten. She doesn't quieten as tears gather in her eyes and trickle down rosy cheeks, mouth parted as she draws in breath and cries.

Twisting in my arms.

I slowly get to my feet, disentangling from Yoongi oppa and Kookie's hold, murmuring softly as I try to calm Hae Kyungie...but considering that she'd managed to sleep through the din of everyone rushing about to get dinner ready, I know she needs feeding.

"I'll be in the living room." I say softly, stepping away from the table, moving to get away so I can feed her and the boys can all finish up.

But a hand gently rests on the low of my back and stays as we walk out, Yoongi oppa having separated himself to come join me.

Murmuring quietly to the others to finish up dinner.

"You can head back you know." I say quietly as he nudges me down onto the couch, kneeling in front of me.

His gaze is soft and gentle as he shakes his head.

"Not at all. I want to be here, and the others do too. Bet you that at least one of the maknaes will rush out anyways." He says, gummy smile as he leans over me and Hae Kyung.

"Guess she's hungry now." As his fingers help tug my shirt up, rucking it up around my waist.

I nod.

Wincing as I undo my bra, breasts heavy and aching. Sore.

Lactating already in response to her fitful cries, the flow heavy and constant now.

I gently draw Hae Kyung close, eyes scrunching with discomfort when she has struggles to latch on and that when she does, the sensation still foreign and alien has my body instinctively tensing.

A hand rubs up and down my back, rubbing at bare skin as Yoongi oppa slots himself close. Easing away the stiffness, his own feelings of reassurance and strength seeping through my skin, settling as it comes to rest inside me.

"You're doing fine remember that. Hae Kyungie and you...this bond will settle and it'll become easier." He soothes.

Promises me as she continues to feed, my posture loosening under his encouragement and promise.

I nod even as my eyes sting when Hae Kyungie has trouble staying latched on, carefully switching her around and allowing her to mouth at skin until she's able to suckle herself.

And true to Yoongi oppa's words, there's the sound of scuffling and hurried footsteps and then Kookie and Tae are rushing in too, Minnie right behind them.

Cheeks bulging as they chew and swallow their mouthfuls. Eyes bright and soothing all at once, Kookie's press of lips against my temple helping my slightly shaky breathing to slowly even.

"Our baby will learn. Soon enough we'll have to fight for your attention." Minnie says softly, confidence pooling out. Teasing at my wobbly feelings.

Soothing them over with a gentle wave of promise, his hands coming to settle on my knees.

Hae Kyungie stops feeding, mouth sliding away and making a soft gurgling sound of contentment as she blinks up at me, head resting close to my chest and wriggling.

I feel a hand gently drawing me back to lean against the couch as Tae wipes me clean, helping to redress me, hands slow and careful, a series of fluttering pecks over my cheeks and then Hae Kyung's.

Enthusiastic pecks as he wriggles beside me, exaggerating the sounds until I'm giggling and twisting away, my laughter mingling with the soft coos and babbles of Hae Kyung moving, my eyes drifting down to see her small hands move. Shaking slightly as her eyes, wide and ensnaring. Soft brown that blink up at us.

As if she's trying to join in with the constant coos and fussing terms of endearment that keep slipping out of Tae's mouth, part words and phrases, part sounds.

He carefully plucks her from my arms and stands up, cooing as he leans in to tap the tip of her nose, eyes delighted as he smiles, grin all boxy.

"My darling baby girl, dada loves you so much." He exclaims between kisses, her soft babbling sound encouraging him on even as Minnie tries to reach for her only for Tae to spin away carefully.

"Sorry Min-ah, I love you husband of mine but I want to hog our darling girl a little while longer." As he steps out of reach, dancing away from the hands that try to get to our girl.

He sighs but steps away with a fond grin, eyes sparkling at the infectious ambience of joy clinging to Tae's features as he whirls around the room. Unable to even begin to begrudge the hogging of our daughter.

I already know this sight's going to be a familiar occurrence, know it'll turn to habit to have one or the other cradling her to their chest whilst the others try to whisk her away.

And when the rest of them step through, Joonie oppa carefully comes bearing a tray for me, more than one pair of eyes watching his careful trek.

But as fate has it Tae spins at the very moment, gestures grand and exaggerated and Joonie tries to sidestep, tripping to avoid colliding with him.

But a broad frame steps to stabilise him, hand curling around his waist and the other rescuing the tray before it falls.

"Flower of mine, you need to be more careful." Is Jinnie oppa's fond amused words as he clucks him under the chin, pecking his lips before taking the tray instead.

Eyes gleaming gold as he steps forward.

"Now sweetheart...I've got candlelight and roses and a tray of dinner if you're still up for it."
