JOB HUNTING

It was time to look for an I.T placement.

I don't know what could be as stressful as looking for a job. At this point I knew.

"Life after graduation won't be a bed of roses, even if it were, I'd battle with thorns," these were the exact words a good friend of mine told me the previous year. Why did I remember it then?

A week passed, I still kept my hopes high after applying at several community pharmacies. If that wasn't depressing enough, my coursemates were already employed and somehow, it felt intimidating.

'Nobody wants me?' I shake my head to get that negative thought out.

By the following weekend, my dad told me to prepare, we'd be going out. I dressed casually because I wasn't expecting any surprises.

"What could be the occasion?" I asked.

   "Just get dressed," he replied.

My dad is not the one to talk more than required so yeah, I was expecting a reply like that.

We arrived at Sky Memorial Complex in my dad's car. I kept guessing and wondering until we got in and entered one of the shops.

Lo and behold, I found myself in a pharmacy store. I was so excited in me, my inner self was doing some killer dance moves.

"Finally! The struggle is over," I didn't even realize when I started making plans. "I'll be a good employee, I'll come early to work every day, I must get a commendation at the end of this program, I'll be nice to my coworkers," and so on.

I smiled at the ladies already working and they seemed nice, probably because they smiled back - I'd soon find out.

We met the superintendent pharmacist and she was very warm and welcoming too. "I'm sure I will enjoy these three months," I said to myself happily until she broke the news to me that I'd be working Monday through Saturday, for eight hours.

   Boom!

I was a bit surprised at first but confidence from the pit of hell took over me and I agreed so innocently.

What was I thinking? I could have negotiated that but no! I foolishly believed I could do it.

"Can he start working tomorrow," my dad asked.

"If it's possible, he can start today but he's not with a lab coat so tomorrow is fine," Pharm. Salome Aina replied.
