explanation :: my main inspiration for this was the dramaturgical analysis theory by erwing goffman. the theory states that we are all essentially actors on a 'day to day stage' performing our roles and putting on a performance for our audience. i tried to convey this through the colors and the second part of the graphic. the outside of the subject is blue and has some meager amount of color in it while the subject itself is devoid of any color. the point i want to make in this graphic is that everyone shows themselves to appear colorful to the audience and put on their best performance, but really we're all just de-saturated, struggling beings trying to make ends meet. the umbrella here acts as a way to show the viewer who the subject really is. i picked this particular line from the song as it resonated with me and the ideas i had from the very first listen. roles and behaviour expected from certain roles are a major part of sociology and is the basis for the dramaturgical analysis theory. at some point you become so saturated with the roles and tasks you need to fulfill that you forget who you actually were and what you were supposed to do.

note :: as the full entry cannot be uploaded onto Wattpad because of the 3MB GIF cap, the link to the full entry will be inline commented here. the one uploaded below is a shortened GIF preview.

explanation :: I created a mobile app prototype (Dramaturgy) that hosts playbill auctions, sells digitized playbills and exclusive tickets on theatre performances. My concept for this entry runs within the bounds of theatre, performing arts and the creatives' struggle of self and identity.

FLAG. Flags go a long way even on theatre. Back in the Elizabethan times, literacy is low and to let people know what kind of play is to be performed, they use flags. White is for lighter themes such as comedies, black for tragedies and red for historical plays. The play in-focus is New Storm at Our Seas, a performance of hope and finding your voice in the new wave of social standards dawning upon you. It's a production we did last year for a performing arts festival, Likhandula.

SONG. In this entry, Eve's song is interpreted from the vantage point of an artist's paranoia: the struggle to be someone of their own and to be able to fulfill roles on-stage. I curated revolutionary pieces of theatre defining "self" and "your own voice amidst the script society wants you to play by."

SUBTITLE. In the "About" section, the subtitle is intended to be interpreted in two ways. One, as a personal experience of theatre goers standing on the front line. Two, as another grasp on defining your own voice, and being brave and bold at it.

extra notes :: as one contestant was unable to submit their entry by the given deadline, we will be eliminating only three from those who submitted this round. like always, we will be providing ourselves a two day period to judge. good luck to all the contestants!!
