Chapter 3
George stepped out of his car and shut the door behind him. He breathed in the smells of fresh leaves and listened to the faint chirping of birds. He looked around, taking in his surroundings.
He wasn't in the middle of nowhere, but he wasn't really out and about either. Around him there was a small local café, a movie theatre, and a park with a swing set and some slides.
He decided upon taking a walk through the park considering the weather was perfect. It was a sunny day, but it wasn't too hot, and there was a perfect breeze that ruffled the flyway's in George's hair.
He walked past the children playing on the playground, a few of them ran around him and almost knocked him off his feet. He laughed lightly and continued on down the winding path.
As he took a turn, he was lead away from the park in the sunny clearing and into a dense patch of trees, where the sun just peeked through the leaves.
He walked for what felt like an hour until he reached a huge field of sunflowers. The sun was setting and the sky was painted with beautiful pinks, oranges, and yellows. He inhaled the lovely scent of the flowers and walked towards the middle of the field.
He approached the center and lowered himself to the ground, leaning back until his back touched the soft grass. He stared up at the beautiful sunset from under the tall sunflowers. The birds above him were chirping happily, singing sweet melodies as they circled in loop de loops around each other.
As George closed his eyes slowly, enjoying the perfect breeze, he felt something he hadn't felt in a long time.
Peace.
And in this moment, just this moment, everything was perfect.
But that was just for a moment.
George felt the flowers and grass below him slowly start to move, but it picked up pace in just a few seconds, causing George to get worried.
He opened his eyes and sat up quickly, looking around him in a panic. He spotted what looked like a tornado, but much smaller right next to him.
He jumped to his feet as quickly as possible, backing up a few steps but still standing close to see what was going on.
Suddenly the tornado stopped.
Everything around him stopped moving, and everything was peaceful again.
Well, almost.
Because there, laying in the grass and sunflowers, right where the tornado had just been, was a man.
A man?
"WHAT."
"THE."
"F-"
