Chapter 1

George awoke with a start. He couldn't even remember the dream he was having. There was a man? He gave up trying to get the memory back and glanced at his alarm clock. It read 4:37 A.M. Great. Despite his whole body being washed over with exhaustion, he found it impossible to fall back asleep, back into the world inside of his head. When he finally decided to give up and get out of bed, his clock read 6:42 A.M. With a deep sigh, he threw the covers off of his curled up body. He was greeted with a wave of frigid air, pushing against him, threatening to send a shiver down his spine. He stood up, his legs almost giving out from under him, but he managed to catch himself by grabbing onto his desk. Since it was 7:00 in the morning and there really wasn't much to do at that time, he decided upon taking a warm, relaxing shower. He stepped in, letting the warm water flow over every inch of his body, loosening his tense muscles and washing away the not so nice stench he held. About 30 minutes later, the warm water slowly turned into cool water, chilling George down to his bones. He stepped out of the shower, wrapped himself in a towel, and emerged back into his bedroom to get dressed. The clock read 7:51 A.M. He walked into his kitchen, popping some frozen waffles into the toaster and grabbing the half empty bottle of maple syrup out of the cupboard.

He thought about what he should do for the day. Honestly, his life was really boring. It was just an endless cycle of sleeping, eating, scrolling on his phone for hours, watching TV, then sleeping again. Sure, he had a few friends, but he wasn't much of an extrovert. Sometimes he really thought he was pathetic, and that he should at least try to be more social. He sighed, picking up his phone.

Great. 43%. He forgot to plug it up last night. After disposing of the sticky mess on his plate, he returned to his bathroom. He brushed his teeth, his hair, and slid on his sneakers. He grabbed his phone and keys and headed out the door.

He climbed into his car and took off. He didn't know where he was going, or why he decided to leave in the first place. He just felt like he NEEDED to leave. Get some fresh air. It was like something was pulling him, tugging at him with such a force that he couldn't resist.

He rolled down the window, and breathed in the crisp, cool air. His hair was blowing in perfect harmony with the wind, getting ruffled and tousled. Despite the coolness of the air, and the shivers being sent down his body, George felt warm inside. It was like the feeling you get when you're curled up by a fire, a steaming mug of hot cocoa pressing against both of your palms, a fuzzy blanket draped over your shoulders.

He didn't know why, but this is what he needed. Exactly what he needed. And, for some reason he couldn't explain, this felt right. Like this is what he was supposed to be doing in this very moment.

Yeah. This was what he needed to be doing right now.

(A/N): hi guys! i honestly wasn't sure how i was going to start this fanfic. and i'm not really super happy with how it turned out. but hopefully now that we have the first chapter, we can actually get into the story.

also, i'm aware this chapter is short. i'm going to try to make them longer from now on, but honestly the length may vary. i hope y'all can still enjoy it either way!
