The Final Stand

Theme Song: "So Cold" - Breaking Benjamin

Daniel had two weapons trained on him, but he was using me as a shield so neither could get a safe shot. "Just shoot him.." I said as Daniel brought his left hand up around my front and grabbed on to my throat viciously. His other hand was holding his gun, which was now placed upon my temple.

"Let her go!" Rick's voice boomed in the house and I felt herself flinch. Daniel looked over to a seething Daryl as he stepped forward with his bow, but Rick made a movement with his hand to signal him not to move too fast.

Daniel was watching them like a hawk and the gunfire outside continued to erupt. When Daniel didn't answer, Daryl spoke up, "We ain't askin' freak, let 'er go." His voice was lethal and I watched as Daryl's hands trembled ever so slightly while holding the bow.

"What are ya'll going to do? Shoot her to get to me? Neither of you are going to hurt her." Daniel had them both and it was true, neither of them would risk hurting me.

"Just shoot the son of a bitch!" I gasped out as his hands tightened upon my windpipe. Rick bristled and Daryl took a step towards Daniel, "One more step redneck and I blow her head off."

I fidgeted and then saw my sickles lying upon the counter top in the kitchen and relief spread through my belly. I hadn't seen those things in days.

"It's over. Stand down!" Rick's voice was bordering on trying to get Daniel to do the right thing and at the same time, sending him a warning. "If I'm not gonna have her, she's not leaving here alive." He cocked the hammer on his pistol back and my eyes widened as I realized this might be the last time I would see Daryl or Rick.

My heart raced uncontrollably in my chest and I froze in horror. Daryl looked like a caged animal ready to strike, but he knew to stand down because it would risk getting me hurt.

But at the same time Daryl wanted to put a bolt in his ass like there was no tomorrow.

"Sweet dreams, Vicki." Daniel whispered in my ear as his eyes deadpanned and Rick and Daryl knew exactly what he was about to do. They both shouted something and I met Daryl's horrified eyes.

A gunshot went off and I braced for impact against my temple, except it never came. A clatter sounded on the floor and I looked down to see Daniel's gun had fallen and then his hands upon my neck loosened slightly and he stared in a daze at everyone.

He froze and I was able to shimmy out of his grasp and his eyes widened in startled reality as Daniel realized he was shot. And dying. The right side of his neck was pouring blood. And then he smiled, like he knew death was near, but he didn't even care.

Daryl wasted not a second more as he shot a bolt into his heart, sending him straight to the floor. All our eyes cast upon where the bullet had come from and we saw Carl standing in front of a broken window at the back part of the house, directly to the right from where Daniel had been standing.

He had a clear shot of him holding me and he had taken it. He had hit his neck, and lucky for me, Carl was a good shot. Rick's face was ghostly white as he stared as his son through the window. Carl had just killed Daniel.

"Carl"! Rick shouted in shock, she didn't know why Rick looked so upset at seeing Carl, but he looked from me to Carl and back to me. Daryl rushed me, grabbing my arm lightly and when I saw he was looking at me up and down, I nodded, "I'm okay."

His right hand briefly touched the side of my face and I allowed myself this miniscule moment and repeated firmly, "I'm okay.." The gunfire outside continued and then a deathly scream came that sounded like Maggie's.

"WALKERS!"

It was as if everyone moved in overdrive, "Gotta' get outta' here." Daryl shouted as Rick looked to Carl through the window, "Go around!" Carl nodded and disappeared from sight.

As the three of us ran towards the door, I felt a red rage take over me from within. Something so startling it sent me into a state of frenzy. I reached down to Daryl's hunting knife and grabbed it, my body twisting back towards Daniel's lifeless form.

I flew upon him, my red rage building within me to a degree I didn't know I had. I stabbed his chest, his abdomen and then slashed at his face. My voice screaming at the man who had just caused us all so much pain, heartache and death. Each stab was pent up poison leaving my body, pent up hate for Daniel.

Daryl was prying me off, yelling at me to stop and finally he wrenched me off of Daniel and I fell to the floor. I was panting heavily and Daryl swiped the knife from my hand, sheathing it once more before he gripped my arm again. He hefted me up off the floor and took me away without another word.

My outburst had come from nowhere, or had it? It came so quickly..something so raw and emotional biting at my core. Blood was upon my hands and now Hershel's blood was mixed with Daniel's.

By the time we got out of the house, Rick and Carl were nowhere to be found and Juno was a blood bath. Bodies littered the ground and people were still firing shots, and the walkers were coming. They were spilling into the camp and everywhere I looked it was terrifying.

"Merle!" Daryl shouted aloud, but he was nowhere to be found. Smoke started to settle into the camp and everything was getting hazy. People were misconstrued with walkers and walkers could be misconstrued as people. It was a complete disaster.

"My sickles and bag....What about the others?" I yelled at Daryl and pointed back towards the house. He shook his head, "Ain't got time, we gotta' go." I shook my head back at him, "I'm getting my stuff!" I heard him curse and he back tracked with me to the house.

"Cover me out here." He nodded and took a watch on the front step. I grabbed my sickles, placing them upon myself like they were supposed to be and I grabbed my duffel, stuffing anything I could inside of it.

I felt my adrenaline spiking again and I hurried back out and stopped in my tracks. Daryl was gone. I screamed his name again and saw the field was clearing up from the smoke and the herd of walkers was terrifying. There were so many of them.

If I stayed, I would get overrun. If I ran, I might not ever see any of them again. I screamed out in frustration and every inch of my body was telling me to run. Daryl would want me to. I felt tears drip down my face as I started to run and while I ran for the forest line, I couldn't see anyone from her group. Not Glenn, Maggie, anyone.

I heard a large vehicle pulling up into the camp, but didn't bother to turn and see who it was. Everyone had fled, it was a disaster. "Glenn! Maggie!" I yelled, stopping briefly and looking around at the expanse before me.

Trees and more trees. I had entered the forest line and looked back and saw Juno burning down before my eyes. Everything was on fire now and walkers still lingered.

No, no, no. This was bad.

Something wrenched my duffel back and pulled, whipping me around so fiercely and then slammed me to the ground, knocking the breath out of me. I wheezed as my head hit the ground and my lungs tried to take a full breath. My vision swam in and out and the figure that loomed before me made her stomach crawl. It was Charlie. He had gotten out.

He pounced on me like a crazed junkie after his fix and I screamed, batting him away and fighting back tooth and nail. His body was on top of mine, but that didn't stop me from kneeing him in the groin. I pushed him off of me as it temporarily disabled him and I crawled out from him.

He grabbed my ankle and yanked me back towards him and I screamed out a cry of protest before reaching down to my sickles and grabbing them, but he was too quick. He grabbed my wrists and slammed them into the ground over and over until I dropped her beloved weapons.

"Came to finish what I started.." He sneered at her before clasping her hands above her head at an incredible strength and she thought for a moment he was going to break her wrists.

I realized we were still so close to the chaos. Walkers were bound to come, they were bound to hear us. This was ludicrous. We would both die. "Get off!" I yelled out, kicking my legs, but his free hand was already freeing his belt buckle and undoing his zipper.

My eyes widened in complete horror and I really started to buck my hips, kicking my legs and wiggling around.

I wouldn't make them this easy for him. Charlie freed himself from his pants and I wanted to hurl as he started to yank on my my own buttons. "NO, get off!" I screamed, my voice hoarse from having to yell so much.

To my surprise, Charlie's head was wrenched backwards, his hand loosening on my wrists. He was pulled in an awkward angle and the blade of a large hunting knife sliced his throat from ear to ear.

Charlie never even saw it coming.

My jaw drop dropped as blood poured from Charlie's fatal wound and I scooted back as he fell face first into the dirt between my legs.

Before me was Daryl, sweating and looking more dark and primal than I had ever seen him. I didn't even need to ask why he wasn't at the house. He must've gotten accosted by one of Daniel's men.

He was here now. It's all that mattered.

My breath caught and as I gathered myself, Daryl grabbed my hand and helped me to my feet. My breathing was labored and I fixed the button Charlie had gotten off on my pants.

Daryl looked away, seething with an anger I hadn't seen since the scene with Daniel. "Run." His rough voice broke at my thoughts and it was all he said as we made our way farther into the woods. I followed him as he seemed to be heading in a certain direction.

I wanted to ask about the others, wanted to know why we weren't looking for them. But, I knew..Juno was a shitstorm. There was nothing we could do and it had been overrun by walkers.

So..we ran. And I realized a part of my heart would forever be lost at Juno.

Goodbye Hershel..
