CHAPTER TWO - WRONG MOUNTAIN
CLARKE'S HEAD OF golden locks were pretty hard to miss. She was hovering near the ramp of the drop ship, using it as a table to look down at something.
"Whatcha got there?" Dakota asked, approaching her.
She seemed startled for a moment, but quickly brushed it off and returned her gaze back to whatever she was holding. "It's a map of where we need to be."
Dakota's eyes narrowed at the piece of paper that she was holding. "Let me see that." She snatched it from her grasp before she had time to protest. Her brown eyes skimmed over the familiar shapes and the writing.
Dakota's head lifted and her eyes started to scan around the place that they had landed, and then back onto the map, noticing that they had landed completely off course. "We aren't on Mount Weather." Dakota finally stated as she turned to head to look back at the blonde girl.
"We got problems." Wells said, coming up from behind the two. "The communications system is dead. I went to the roof. A dozen panels are missing. Heat fried the wires." He frowned.
Dakota blinked a few times upon hearing the news and her eyes narrowed down. "Impossible.."
"What do you mean?" Clarke looked over her shoulder immediately intrigued.
"I inspected the dropship a few days before they sent us down here. There's no way that there could be a flaw with the system, We should of landed by Mount Weather." Clarke snatched the paper back at her words.
"This is where we need to get to if we want to survive." Dakota followed closely behind Clarke as she pointed where Mount Weather was on the Map to Wells.
She set the paper down and then drew a line to another point. Dakota scoffed as her pencil ruined her handy work. That beautiful art was now ruined with a huge charcoal mark running across it.
"Ah, cool, A map." A voice said behind them called out, The boy with the goggles sauntered over and grinned at the two ladies that were crowded around the small table. "They got a bar in this town? I'll buy you a beer." He winked down at the brunette with a goofy grin on his face.
Dakota let out a breathy chuckle and grinned, reaching a hand up to mess with his hair. "Sure thing, cutie. The name's Dakota Kane, and you?" She introduced herself.
The boy looked at her for a second, like he was trying to pin the name to her face. His eyes suddenly went wide at the realization of who exactly he was standing in-front of. "Dakota Kane?" He questioned, "The Ripper?" His mouth hung open slightly.
She smirked at him and bowed her head slightly. "The one and only. Pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Wells had grabbed the boys arm and shoved him back, "You mind?"
"Whoa, hey, hey. Hands off of him. He's with us." Dakota's brown eyes lingered on a familiar figure that was approaching with his own posse following behind. Her face lit up at the familiar face of Murphy leading his posse over to them. He caught her grin and smiled back.
Wells held his hands up. "Relax. We're just trying to figure out where we are."
"We're on the ground," A boy with dark slick hair walked over, and from the hostile tone of his voice, she knew this wouldn't end on a peaceful note. "That's not good enough for you?" Dakota pursed her lips as Wells started to glance around him with unease at the group that had gathered around them.
"We need to find Mount Weather," Wells announced, the volume of his voice was going slightly up so that he could be heard by everyone. You heard my father's message. That has to be our first priority."
"Screw your father." Octavia smirked, resting all of her weight on one leg. "What, you think you're in charge here, you and your little princess?" Octavia turned her head to sneer over towards the blonde, who was looking slightly offended at the nickname she was given.
Dakota furrowed her eyebrows at the scene that was playing out before her. She was feeling slightly angry that the two siblings were finding the situation amusing. "We're just trying to figure things out, okay?" Dakota tried to step in, maybe calm the storm that was brewing, and it seemed to work as the two siblings relaxed slightly, but of course, Clarke had to let her thoughts be known.
"Do you think we care who's in charge?" the blnde girl demanded, seemingly done with the entire situation. "We need to get to Mount Weather, not because the Chancellor said so, but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this'll be. How long do you think we'll last without those supplies? We're looking at a twenty-mile trek, okay? So if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave now."
"I've got a better idea," Bellamy said, looking between Wells and Clarke. "You two go, find it for us. Let the privileged do the hard work for a change." There were shouts of agreement from the rest of the delinquents.
Dakota stayed quiet as she crossed her arms over her chest. These people have to be kidding, the thought alone of two people carrying supplies for all of them was insane.
Wells spoke up. "We all need to go." He was suddenly shoved from behind.
"Look at this, everybody...the Chancellor of Earth." Murphy snickered which earned a laugh from everyone in the crowd.
"Think that's funny?" Wells growled. Murphy suddenly kicked Wells' leg out from underneath him, he fell down onto the ground, crumbling from the broken limb. Clarke screamed out Wells's name, but the boys loyal to Murphy held her back.
"John!" Dakota yelled out, she took a step towards the two, hoping to pull Murphy back from Wells but someone took hold of her wrist.
"No, but that was. All right, come on." Murphy smiled sadistically as Wells got up from the ground bravely and prepared to fight. One could see that Murphy was doubtful Wells would punch him and his injured leg didn't help his case.
Dakota began to fight against Murphy's friend's that held her back, growing more annoyed. She managed to punch one in the nose as she swung her elbow back, causing him to fumble back. Dakota took the opportunity to run in-between them to stop the fight, but instead, someone jumped down from the top of the drop ship and landed just in front of Murphy.
"Kid's got one leg," said Finn. "How about you wait until it's a fair fight?"
Murphy instantly stopped his antagonizing, and afterwards, Octavia walked up to the brave teenager and said, "Hey, Spacewalker! Rescue me next." This settled off a few chuckles and a smirk from Finn.
She watched him walk off with a dreamy look on her face. Bellamy marched up to Octavia and gave her a stern look. He gave her a stern look. "What? He's cute."
Bellamy looked around before sharply stating "He's a criminal."
"We're all criminals. That's why we're down here." Dakota added, receiving a look from Bellamy that told me to shut up.
Octavia looked over at the sound of a voice cutting into their conversation, and when she noticed the brunette, she smiled and then looked back at her brother. "You heard her, they're all criminals."
Dakota smirked over at the older sibling, watching as he ran a hand through his hair angrily before grabbing Octavia by the arm and dragging her off to a more private area to presume the conversation.
She rolled her eyes and turned around to go find Clarke, who was still standing near the drop ship. Clarke and Finn were talking about going to Mount Weather, gearing up to go. "We're leaving now? Great." Dakota grinned at them as she stopped herself beside Clarke. She was growing more excited by the prospect of getting to explore what Earth had to offer.
Clarke shook her head at her. "You're not going."
"What? Why not?"
Clarke glanced around the camp and then pulled the brunette closer to her side, looking as though she was about to tell her a secret. "I need you to keep an eye on things around here," She told her, which earned a frown from Dakota. "especially with Bellamy seemingly taking charge."
"It will be fine for us to leave for a day or so." Dakota argued with the blonde, not wanting to stay here any longer with all these idiots surrounding her.
"No, I need you to keep an eye on Wells as well."
Dakota rolled her eyes, not wanting to except the fact that she had been defeated from the argument. "Fine." She replied with a pout on her lips.
