Chapter 5

Rose's POV

The next few days were the epitome of perfection. Every thing was going perfect and Henry was the perfect fiancé.

He helped me with all the arangements for the wedding, even with the colour flowers we were going to have. He gave me everything I desired even when I told him it wasn't necessary.

Even though I continued to talk with the servants I stayed clear of helping them. I didn't want to evoke Henry again. Not when everything was so good between us.

It was another bright morning and I thought back to the time when I woke up before the crack of dawn only to see the sunrise. These thoughts only made me long for my mother and seeing as I had nothing to do I decided to go on a road trip.

I hurriedly dressed myself before starting my search for Henry. Agatha was on her way to my room when I stopped her.

"Agatha, have you seen Henry?" I asked.

"Yes, I did he just went to his meeting with his advisers." She said with a smile.

"Oh, I'll wait for him then." I said.
"Rose, these meetings tend to last for hours, you would be lucky if you saw him after afternoon tea." Could a meeting really take that long? I couldn't wait that long, I had to hit the road if I didn't want a brief visit.

"Agatha, could you maybe tell Henry that I've gone to visit my mother, I'll surely be back after tea time." I asked.

"Of course, I'll be sure to let him know." I gave her a bright smile before I went outside. Mr Jinkins, the castle caretaker, called one of the stable boys to arrange a carriage for me. I told him that a horse was fine, but he immediately scolded me. He said I was a future queen and needed to ride in a carriage.

After a few minutes of waiting a carriage finally arrived, I thanked Mr Jinkins kindly before we were off. The ride was smoother than I suspected and the scenery outside grabbed my attention. The land stretched out as far as the eye could see and the view only increased my longing for home. A magnificent view like this was something I was fairly used.

-*-

An hour or two later the carriage came to a stop at the farm. The workers immediately looked up and when they saw me climb out they rushed over.

They attacked me with hugs and I felt at home. Who knew you could miss people so much. The house's door opened before my mother's head poked out, probably to see what all the ruckus was about.

When her eyes landed on me she let out a excited scream before running over and engulfing me in a hug. I returned her hug and we stood there just enjoying the moment. She pulled away before she started to look me over.

"Darling, your home. What brings you here?" She asked.

"Oh just a little visit." I said with a smile.

"I'm so glad you're here, come in, come in. I can't wait to hear how the wedding arrangements are coming along." She said as she led me inside.

We spent hours talking about all the things I planned for the wedding and how I had a appointment with the seamstress tomorrow. I told my mother how I wanted the dress to look and she was excited at my idea.

I didn't tell my mother about the 'accindent' with Henry, because it will only worry her. And besides we made up and he promised that it won't happen again. There was nothing to worry about.

It was amazing to be back home again and I was reluctant to leave. But I had to, I promised Agatha that I'll be back after tea time.

I greeted all the workers and reminded them that they all were invited to my wedding. They weren't my blood but they were definitely my family. And I knew this wedding just couldn't happen without them.

-*-

The ride back to the castle went by faster, and before I knew it I was back in my new home. The servants greeted me as I entered with smiles which I returned. Agatha came up to greet me and when I saw the look on her face my smile was replaced by a frown.

"His majesty requested your presence in his study, immediately." She said emotionless and I wondered why she acted so strange.

"Thank you." I said before I started to move pass her, but she suddenly grabbed my wrist, stopping me from going further.

"Be careful." Was all she said. I nodded my head before walking to Henry's study. His study was right next to the library so I found my way to it quite easily.

I knocked on the door before I entered. His study was neat and tidy just as always. Except for the stray paper here and there.

"You're late." Was all he said.

I looked at the clock above his head when I realised that I was two hours late.

"I'm sorry, I didn't keep track of time-" I said but was quickly interrupted by Henry.

"Why didn't you ask me?" He asked.

"Ask you what?" I asked baffled.

"To visit your mother, but no you had to do it behind my back." He said loudly as he stood up from his chair.

"No, I didn't do it behind your back. I didn't tell you because you were in a meeting with your counselors and I didn't want to disturb you."

It was as if he didn't hear a word I said as he ranted on.

"You couldn't wait to go tell your mother how ruthless I am, could you?!" He screamed as his face started to turn a deep shade of red.

"Henry, you have to calm down." I said as he started to walk towards me.

"Here you go again telling me how to handle myself. I'm sick of hearing how I should be handling myself from other people!" He said as he took another step closer. My heart beat increased on its own accord. I didn't want to relive the past event.

"Henry," I said, "you have to calm down."

"I don't have to do anything!" He roared before he pushed me hard. I stumbled into the wall behind me, hitting my back against the wall.

He came to stand infront of me before grabbing my face in his hands harshly so I'd look at him. His grip was hard.

"Your not the boss of me, you would do as I say and never leave this castle without my permission." I looked up at him,"Is that understood?"

What was I? Some sort of prisoner? My mind raced, why was he acting so strangely? I thought we were fine.

A hot, burning sensation across my cheek broke my chain of thoughts.

"I asked you a question! Am I understood?!" He screamed and when I looked up at his eyes I saw his eyes were black, an evil sinister black.

I nodded my head, scared that I'll get another slap.

"Now go." He ordered and I rushed to my room. When I entered my room I sauntered over to my bed. Tears started to roll down my cheeks. My back ached at the collision and I was scared out of my mind.

I laid down in my bed as I sobbed. Was this what my life was to be? Was I suppose to be slapt around like a good for nothing mongrel? Didn't he love me?

All these questions popped in my mind before darkness encircled me.

-*-

"Mommy?" A small boy cried as he rushed to his mother. They were infront of the castle and when I took a closer look I saw the woman was me.

"What's wrong?" She asked as she picked him up and placed him on her hip.

"Daddy's mad at me." The boy said as he cried.

"Oh sweetie, I'm sure he isn't." The woman said trying to calm the child.

"He is, he screamed at me." The boy said as he let out a sob.

Henry suddenly appeared and he stormed to the mother and child. She looked at him with fear in her eyes, but when she looked at the boy in her arms she put on a strong facade.

"Give him here." Henry demanded.

"Why? What did he do?" She asked.

"He scared off the dear I was tracking when he screamed at a little spider." He said furiously.

"Henry, you know Michael is scared of spiders." She said.

"I don't care, he needs to be taught properly and it won't happen if you keep defending him." He said as he grabbed the child out of her arms. She tried to get him back, but he held the child out of her reach. Henry stormed into the castle with the child in his hands and a scared mother following behind him.

The scene changed and we were down in a dungeon of sorts. I heard the screams of a child and the pleading of a mother. I followed the sound as my guide towards them and the sight I found was dreadful.

Henry had a whip in his hand and the boy had a bleeding scar down his back. Two guards were holding the mother back from intervening.

Henry then order the guards to bring the fighting woman over. He tore the back of her dress so that her back was bare. Her back was full of scars and I let out a startled gasp.

The scene changed again and I was back in the forest where I met the old lady. She looked at me with saddened eyes.

"I'm sorry you had to see that, but you needed to know." She said.

"What did I need to know?" I asked.

"The man you love and who claims to love you isn't the person you thought." She said.

"You're wrong, he promised not to hurt me again."

"Is that mark on your cheek before or after he made that promise?" She asked.

She was right he slapped me after he promised not to harm me ever again.

"Rose, I showed you a glimpse of the future. You have to leave before this gets out of hand." She said before she disappeared like the first time.
-*-

Her voice echoed in my head as I woke up. The sun was almost completely gone and I decided that I'll leave tonight.

If that was the future I was to have here, I don't want it. I started to pack my few belongings.

There was a knock on the door, but I ignored it and continued my packing. The door was suddenly opened and a disheveled Henry stepped inside.

He looked at me and what I was doing before he voiced his question,"What are you doing?"

"I'm leaving. I can't marry you." Was all I said. He rushed over to me before he pulled me away from my task.

"Why?" He asked.

"I don't think we are meant for each other." I said and was about to break out of his grip, but his grip only tightened.

"I don't care what you think, you will marry me!" He said loudly.

"No, I won't." I said as I broke out of his grip and went back to my packing.

"Guards!" Henry screamed and two black dressed knights entered.

"Take her to the dungeon." He ordered and they immediately grabbed me. They started to drag me out of the room.

"We'll see if you change your mind after this." He spat before the knights continued to drag me out of the room.
