Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Rose's POV
Henry violently dragged me out of the room and down the hall. His grip around my arm was extremely tight and it started to throb with pain. I wanted to ask him to let go a bit, but with one look at his face I didn't bother.
He dragged me towards the library. The servants down the hall looked at us strangely but as soon as they noticed Henry's fuming face they averted their eyes and rushed past.
Question after question popped in my mind as I wondered what was going on. Had I done something wrong? I only helped the servants, he couldn't surely be mad about that.
He opened the library and dragged me inside before he the door closed behind us. He finally let go of me as he started to pace the room. I rubbed my hand over my arm somehow trying to dull the throbbing sensation. I stared down at my injured arm when I saw the red marks around it, it was surely going to bruise.
"What do you think you were doing?" Henry's sudden question took my attention of my sore arm.
"What?" I asked confused.
"I asked what do you think you were doing helping the servants?" He asked through gritted teeth.
"I only helped them." I replied.
"That is not your job, Rose." He said loudly.
"I know, but I wanted to."
"And what do you think the people will say when they hear that the future queen is prancing around and helping servants, commoners do their jobs." He spat. There was a fire in his eyes I've never seen before.
"I'm a commoner, Henry. And I would not let you talk so lowly about those people." That's when his hand shot out and I felt a burning sensation a few seconds later as my head whipped to the side.
I touched my cheek with my hand feeling the burning sensation.
"Don't you dare tell me how to speak, I am your king and you will do as I say." He said menacingly before he stormed out of the room.
I was stung to say the least. I hissed in pain when my hand touched the wound again. I couldn't believe he hit me. The realisation of the events hit me and that's when the water works started.
I ran to my room as quickly as I could manage and after locking the door behind me I curled up in my bed. When I was consumed in my covers I started to sob.
Why did he hit me? I just didn't want him to talk about the commoners so lowly like he was better than them.
Maybe I spoke out of my place. He is the king and I shouldn't have spoken my mind. But wasn't he the person I was suppose to share my thoughts and opinions with?
My eyes became heavy with sudden exhaustion as the events took a toll on me. My puffy red eyes must have looked a sight, but I didn't really care. All I cared about was to watch what I said and to make sure never to upset Henry again.
A knock on the door awakened me from my peaceful slumber, pulling me away from my dream. I let out a yawn as I sat upright in bed, wiping my eyes.
"Who is it?" I asked in a groggy voice.
"Agatha miss." I heard Agatha's voice.
I climbed out of bed and went over to the door to unlock it. I opened the door for Agatha and after she stepped inside I closed it behind her.
Agatha was probably the same age as my mother and since the day I arrived she took me under her wing. She reminded me so much of my mother.
Agatha gave me a smile before her eyes widened as she took in my appearance. A worried look crossed her features as she looked over me. She placed a loving hand on my cheek, comforting me.
"Oh dear, what happened?" She asked.
"Nothing to worry yourself about." I said as I went to sit down on the bed.
"Dear you know you can tell me anything." She gave me a small reassuring smile. How I wished my mother was here, but at least I had Agatha.
Her eyes reassured me and I started to explain what happened. Her eyes widened every few seconds as I shared the events with her.
"Oh how terrible!" She said after I finished my tale.
I just nodded my head as I stared infront of me.
"Why did he do it?" I asked.
Agatha rubbed soothing circles around my back.
"Dear, I don't know the answer to that question, but I know people tend to do harsh things when their angry. Sometimes that anger just gets unbearable and they do something to let it out. And sometimes that something is bad." She said.
I felt comforted by her words, and I was glad she was there to comfort me when my mother wasn't. I wasn't going to tell my mother about what happened either, because I wouldn't want to worry her.
"I guess that is where forgiveness comes in." She said with a sigh.
A comfortable silence fell between us, but unfortunately it was short lived and quickly interrupted by another knock.
"Rose..." Henry's voice spoke from behind the door.
Agatha stood up,"Should I let him in?"
I nodded my head in reply before I stood up and walked to my balcony window. I heard Agatha opening the door and Henry walking in and thanking Agatha before Agatha left and the door closed behind her.
"Rose...I know you're mad...you've got every right to be. I was wrong and I'm sorry about everything. I shouldn't have talked to you like that and I shouldn't have hit you." He said but I didn't reply and kept staring out of the window.
Henry let out a sigh before I heard him move and him sit down,"You see. This is so hard to explain. When I met you I saw what a hard worker you are. I thought if I brought you here to live with me, you wouldn't have to work another day and you can finally get the life you deserved. But...but then I heard you were working with the servants. I thought that you felt like a servant and I didn't want you to feel like that." I heard him stand up as he neared me, "Rose you are special, you are my special Rose."
I turned around to face him, his appearance turned to that of shock when he took in my appearance. He trailed my cheek with his hand.
"I'm so sorry, Rose." He said.
"It is okay." I replied.
"No, it's not." Henry said, "I'm going to make this up to you Rose, I promise."
With that promise he pulled me into a hug and I knew right there that I forgave him.
*-*-*
"Where are we going?" I asked as Henry led me down a path.
It has been a few weeks since the incident and Henry was spoiling me every step of the way. I knew he was really sorry about what happened and I forgave him.
This was one of his surprises he's been giving me over the last few weeks. He arrived at my room this morning with a blindfold and claimed he had a surprise.
And that is how I found myself being blindfolded and led somewhere by Henry. I was very curious and bombarded him with question along the way, trying to get a hint of where he was taking me.
"It's a surprise Rose and your just going to have to wait and see." Henry said, letting out a laugh at my curiousity.
"Just remember this moment when I have a surprise for you." I said with a huff.
"I will, Rosie." He said and I could hear the smile in his voice. All I knew was that we were somewhere outside.
After what seemed like a life time, Henry came to sudden stop and announced that we have arrived at our destination.
"Are you ready?" He asked as he stood behind me. I nodded my head enthusiastically for I couldn't wait to see this surprise.
He quickly untied the blindfold and when I opened my eyes my mouth dropped open in shock.
I was in shock because right infront of us their was a magnificent waterfall. The waterfall was very tall and at the bottom next to the river it flowed into, was a blanket and a basket.
"You planned a picnic?" I asked surprised as I walked towards the picnic basket.
"Yes I did and that is not even the best part." Henry said as he opened the basket and started to pull out all the food stuffed inside.
"I asked the cook to make all your favorites." He said with a boyish grin. He was more excited about the food than I was. What can I say I had a lovely choice in food.
I quickly joined him and we both started to dig into the amazing food that was before us. There was strawberries, chicken, cheese, grapes and a bunch of other delicacies. The cook even made my favourite, apple pie.
The food was amazing and the view was absolutely gorgeous. After I ate I laid my head down in Henry's lap as we enjoyed the view and talked about anything and everything.
We were still enjoying the view when a sudden idea popped into my head. I sat up so quickly that I felt a bit dizzy.
"What's wrong?" Henry asked concerned at my sudden movement.
"Lets swim." I said with a grin.
Henry returned my grin with a mischievous smile of his own.
"Last one in the water is a frog." I screamed before jumping up and running towards the river.
I was about to jump when hands enclosed around my waist and I let out a squeal. He picked me up and we fell into the water together.
When we broke the surface we both looked at each before we broke out in laughter. I splashed water at him and he gave me a glare and I realised I was in trouble now.
I let out a scream as I tried to swim away but unfortunately Henry was a faster swimmer than me and he quickly caught up to me.
"Got you." He said as his arms encircled around me.
I laughed whole heartedly as we splashed around in the crystal, clear water. We spent the whole day at the waterfall splashing and chasing about.
After swimming for a while we climbed out and sat in the sun to dry before we went back to the castle.
When we arrived back at the castle the sun had already set, and we must have missed dinner.
Henry asked me if I was hungry and after I said no he walked me to my room.
"Thank you for today, I enjoyed it." I said with a smile.
"It is my pleasure." He said before he gave me a kiss on the cheek and left for his room.
I closed the door behind me as a smile began to form on my face. What did I do to deserve such a handsome, charming, spontaneous man who keeps sweeping me off my feet.
Hey guys
I hope you enjoyed this chapter and please let me know what you think about Henry.
Happy reading.
