Chapter 20

*Rose's POV *

Henry and his knights led us through the castle and up the stairs to the battlements on top of the castle where the archers stood aligned on the wall.

When I looked on to the horizon I saw a enormous army coming from afar. I knew instantly that it was Keelan and his army. As they neared I saw Keelan dressed in his armour. He looked up and our eyes locked, he gave me a small smile. I couldn't help returning his smile and think how much I loved him.

Suddenly the knight grabbed my arms behind my back before Henry stepped infront of me leaning in closer. "Enjoy watching your love, for his hours are numbered." Henry said as he gave me a mocking smile.

When I looked back at Keelan I saw his eyes were focused on something next to me. When I turned around to look at what he was looking at I saw Eleanor smiling at her brother. It was a perfect sibling moment and Henry and his men dissapeared for just a moment.

Keelan whispered into his father's ear that made him whip his head up to the battlements almost instantly. When he saw her a smile spread over his face, beyond excited that his daughter was still alive.

Henry saw this moment as an opportunity. He ordered two knights to stay with me and Eleanor before he descended down to the battlefield.

It was a while before Henry stepped out onto the battlefield with his army behind him. The two armies exchanged words before the brutal slashing of swords commenced. Fae against human. Everyone's face scrunched up in concentration with their smiles long gone.

When I looked closer I was surprised to see the enchantress fighting alongside the men. She was old, but don't let her age fool you. The archers let loose and a few fae fell. Some luckily had their shields to protect them.

My eyes were locked on one man, Keelan. He fought violently through the human army. He was a force to be reckoned with. When I saw where he was going my heart started to jump, for he was going straight to Henry and I didn't like it one bit.

-*-

Keelan's POV

I slashed my way through the human army in attempt to get closer to Henry. I wanted to get to Rose and my sister as quick as possible. But first I had a monster to dispose of.

With each passing second I got closer and closer to the man who has ruined my life. The man who took both women I loved most and he was going to pay for it.

Henry and I met each other in the middle where we circled each other, sizing each other up.

"Ah the fae Prince, think you can win this war?" Henry asked mockingly.

"I know I can." I spat right back and we both started our fight that was filled with anger and passion.

-*-

Rose's POV

I saw Henry and Keelan starting to fight. They were equally strong and I was scared of what the outcome might be.

"He is strong." Eleanor whispered trying to make me feel better, but failing. I had to help Keelan, there was no way I was going to let him die.

Knights moved past us the whole time as we stared at the battle unfolding infront of our eyes.

A man dressed in armour was about to pass us, but when he laid eyes on Eleanor he stopped dead in his tracks.

"Eleanor?" He asked.

Eleanor looked at the knight and the look of disbelieve crossed his features.

"Finn?" She asked and he nodded.

"You're alive?" He asked.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"Henry told everyone you died of sickness and he had to burn your body to ensure the sickness didn't spread." The knight explained.

Eleanor didn't even look shocked for she already knew the story. "He lied."

The knight looked devastated to say the least. He saw that we were held back by two knights and told them the king wanted him to escort us to the battlefield.

He led us down to the battlefield and as we walked pass all the knights they stared at us in shock when they saw Eleanor. Henry most probably told everybody she was dead.

"Knights call of the battle now. It seems that our king has betrayed us." Finn told a knight, which nodded at his order.

Just then my eyes caught Henry and Keelan still busy fighting. But then all of the sudden Henry caught Keelan by a surprise attack that caused him to lower to his knees. I immediately started to run as fast as my feet could carry me to Keelan's side. Eleanor screamed at me, but I ignored her as I continued to run to the man I loved. I was a few paces away when Henry leaned in and whispered something to Keelan. He readied his sword and was about to plunge it through Keelan, but I stepped infront of the sword just in the nick of time.

A burning pain spreaded across my stumach as the sword penetrated through my flesh. As Henry's sword touched my flesh an invisible surge went through me that sent Henry flying through the air.

I heard my name being called but I couldn't focus properly as I stared at Henry's form that laid motionless on the ground. The whole battlefield quieted and everyone stopped their fighting and was now staring at me.

My knees felt weak and I was about to fall, but luckily someone catched me. The person laid me down and when I looked up I saw Keelan looking at me with a saddened look on his face.

I tried my best to give him a smile and he returned it.

"You're okay Rose, you'll be alright." He cooed, "Just stay awake, please."

I reached up my hand with the last strength I had and cupped his face, "I love you, Keelan."

"I love you too." Was the last thing I heard before my eyelids felt heavy and I closed my eyes.

-*-
I saw a little boy running towards a woman and upon closer inspection I saw that the woman was me, an older me. The boy had moss green eyes and blonde hair just like Keelan. He rushed to the older me with a smile on his face.

"Momma, momma." He screamed all the way to the older me.

The older me looked lovingly at the boy. She picked him up in her loving awaiting arms.

"What is it?" She asked with a smile.

"Daddy showed me how to shoot an arrow." The boy said excitedly with a massive grin on his face.

That's when I noticed a man coming from the forest to the future me and child. When I saw him my heart skipped a beat as I saw Keelan approach the older me and the boy.

He gave them a big grin before he started to tickle the boy in her arms.

"Here you are." Keelan said as the boy laughed loudly. Keelan took the boy from her and when he was sitting on his hip, Keelan leaned forward and kissed the older me. The boy who was still in his arms scrunched up his nose in disgust, clearly not impressed.

Keelan and the older me burst out laughing because of the boy's disgusted expression.

I could see the love they had for each other in their eyes. I saw older me lean forward and whisper something to Keelan, his face turned to that of excitement and I couldn't help but wonder what she told him.

I stared at the loving family and knew this was something I couldn't wait to have.

Keelan's POV

Her eyes were closed and her hand laid limb on the ground. She wasn't breathing anymore and I immediately started to shake her, trying to get her to respond.

"Rose! Wake up!" I screamed while shaking her, but she remained motionless in my arms. The entire battlefield was quiet and the only thing that could be heard was my screams that echoed over the open fields.

I don't know how long I sat there with Rose in my arms, but it felt like an eternity before I felt a hand on my shoulder. When I looked up I saw the enchantress through my tears.

I leaned over Rose's face before I kissed her on the head. I closed my eyes and let the last tears escape my saddened eyes.

I tried my very best to collect myself before I stand up. When I turn around to face everyone behind me they all are staring at me in astonishment. I turn around to see what their staring at and what I see is beyond my wildest imagination.

A bright white yellowish light has surrounded Rose and moved around her in swirls and twirls, encasing her completely.

My breath hitches in my throat as I stare at this magical event. Everyone has the same amazed look on their faces as they stare at the light.

"What is that?" I ask the echantress who stood beside me.

"I don't know...I've never seen anything like it." She said, "Wait a minute, the legend."

"What about the legend?" I asked.

"The last part said: water her whole and she would grow bold."

"What does that even mean?"

"Keelan your tears, don't you see. When you cried a tear dropped on her skin. A tear filled with love, passion, sadness and magic. You're the key to the legend." The echantress said excitedly and just then the white light dissapeared and I quickly rushed over to Rose.

I kneeled beside her taking her hand in mine. Her eyes fluttered open and I once again saw her gorgeous green eyes, the eyes I loved more than anything in the world.

When she saw me she gave me a smile and I immediately grabbed her in a bone crushing hug as happy tears escaped my eyes. I was overwhelmed with joy. When I pulled out of the hug I kissed her with all my might. When we were both out of breath I leaned my head against hers.

"I love you." I breathed as I stared into her eyes.

"And I you." She said.

I gave her a smile before we heard a scream and we both were pulled into a group hug by my sister. My father and the enchantress joined us and I couldn't help the laughter bubbling up in my throat.

I completely forgot about the battle and only remembered that minor detail when the captain of the human guards cleared his throat, attracting our attention.

We pulled apart and I helped Rose to her feet. She was a bit unsteady so I let her lean on me for support.

The captain cleared his throat before he spoke,"Your highness, king Henry is dead and I would like to apologize for the suffering you went through. We did not know Eleanor was alive for Henry fed us all with lies, only his black guards knew, but they are all killed. Henry lied about the reason of the war too, he made us believe that you wanted our lands. So it is with my greatest regret that I apologize. I would like to ask for a truce." He said as he bowed before us.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Captain Finn sire."

"I accept your truce, captain Finn." I said with a smile which he returned with a bow.

"Sire we have one problem though."

"And what might that be?"

"We have no king." He said.

I stared at my father, because that was a problem.

"Eleanor is still married to Henry and thus she still remains queen, if however you would like to appoint a human as your king we will stand with the decision." My father said.

Captain Finn contemplated this for a moment before he turned around to face the humans and fae behind him.

"What would it be men?" He asked. There was a long silence before one man started to scream Eleanor's name and the rest soon followed.

"Eleanor! Eleanor!" They all screamed. Eleanor looked upon her loyal subjects and nodded her head in agreement.

I was surprised that the humans wanted her as their queen, but I knew they made the right choice. Eleanor would make a wonderful queen.

"Then Eleanor would be your queen and the truce will begin once more." As my father spoke those final words the fae and humans erupted into cheers and everyone dropped their weapons.

It was a beautiful sight and I knew the humans and the fae would live in peace once more. I looked down at Rose and knew right at that moment that this was the start of a new era.

The end.
