Chapter 17

***
Rose's POV

Two days went by as we stayed at the enchantress and we still didn't receive any answers. It was as if my mother avoided the conversation every time I brought it up. So much for receiving our answers shortly.

On the second night I wanted to burst. I wanted answers so badly, but the enchantress and my mother weren't eager to give, only giving excuses to delay the truth. So I decided to get some fresh air outside. I sat on the grass staring up at the sky.

I closed my eyes and took a big breath enjoying the tranquility outside. I heard footsteps behind me but decided to ignore it. I heard someone sit beside me and when I looked I saw my mother.

"I talked with the enchantress, she agreed that we couldn't avoid the truth anymore and we decided to discuss this tomorrow morning." She said with a sigh.

"Thank you." Was all I could say.

"Do you love him?" My mother asked right as Keelan was busy attending to the horses.

"I don't know." I answered honestly, I knew that I cared for him a lot and I can't even imagine what my life would be without him, but was it love?

"Don't worry, darling. You'll know soon enough." She said as she patted me on the shoulder before she left me to my own thoughts.

The next morning after breakfast my mother, Carling, Keelan and I sat in the living room together around the fireplace as we waited for them to answer our questions.

My mother let out a sigh before she started to speak, "Richard and I grew up together. We fell in love with each other immediately and I couldn't spend enough time with him. He was my everything and I enjoyed all his stories of the fae realm. We spent every moment we got together. I was beyond excited when he proposed and I couldn't wait to start a life with him." She said as her voice started to break.

"The following week a sickness befell the village and my parents died, and the very same afternoon Richard's father showed up and told me that he passed away as well." She said as tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I was saddened and I had no choice but to carry on. I was lonely, until I met Carling in the woods one day. She asked me if I wanted a child and I answered yes. She took me to her cabin and gave me a rose. Darling, it was a wishing rose and I wished for you and the next day there you were, a healthy baby girl. A real wish come true."

"That's...that's why I have magical powers." I stuttered.

"Yes dear," Carling said, "Your born of a wishing rose which gave you magical properties. You are a magical being." She said. My stumach churned and I suddenly felt sick, very sick.

"But it doesn't make sense, why did my powers emerge now all of the sudden?" I asked.

"I believe it has something to do with Keelan." The enchantress said.

"Me?" Keelan asked from beside me.

"Yes, you came in close contact with her and in turn you awakened her powers."

"How is that possible?" Keelan asked confused.

"I'm not sure, but there is a legend."

"What legend?" I asked.

"A legend about a girl born of roses."

"It's the same as in my dreams." Keelan murmured.

"Exactly, you dreamt of her and the legend, that leads me to one conclusion." The enchantress said.

"And what is that?" I asked.

"Your soulmates. Your powers empower each other. That is the only plausible reason I can think of. Now Rose tell me exactly what happened the day and night you received your powers?" She asked.

So I told what happened the entire day, starting at the stables and ending where I passed out.

"You said you felt a buzzing feeling whenever you touched Keelan?" The enchatress asked.

"Yes."

"Then that is when it must've happened. Keelan awoke your powers. He is royalty after all. For centuries the fae used to travel to the royals to help them develop their gifts. Keelan must have done it unknowingly." She said.

Keelan then placed his hand over mine, "I'm sorry, I did not know. If I knew-"

"Keelan, it's alright, it isn't your fault none of us knew about this." A relieved look crossed his features and I could tell he was worried I'll be crossed with him.

"I'm sorry I never told you Rose, I thought it would be better if you never knew. Could you ever forgive me?" My mother asked. I was mad to say the truth, but I understood why she did what she did. I went over to her and gave her a hug telling her that I forgave her. After that I returned to my seat.

"What now?" I asked.

"Now I think it would be best if you stayed here where I could help you develop your gifts. And it would give me time to see what gifts you have." The enchantress said and I knew I had my work cut out for me.

Unknown POV

The king and I rode hard and fast doing a five day journey in two. He seemed more hasty to get there than I was and I couldn't help but wonder why. Maybe he was excited to see this beauty I described.

"We did not discuss your payment. What do you want in return for your services?" I asked.

"I'll think of something, but first let's capture the girl." He replied in a gruff voice and I still couldn't understand why the human king would want to assist me, but I wasn't going to ask.

We arrived at a fae village on the third morning. We asked around about an enchantress and the fae pointed us in the right direction. We walked a while longer in a dense forest before we saw a far off cabin.

"We'll have to do some spying to see how many there are, it is crucial for this plan to work without being spotted. Here drink this." The king said as he handed me a vile.

"What is it?" I asked.

"A potion. The enchantress will be likely to feel us, but if we drink this she won't even know we're here." He explained and I quickly swallowed the green, slimy potion.

We made camp a few spaces away and the king said it would be better to keep our things in the trees incase they decided to walk through the forest. And we started to wait for the perfect opportunity to capture the girl. Watching their every moves closely.

Rose's POV

After the truth revelations, Carling and I went outside along with Keelan and my mother to see about my gifts. Carling said that I had healing powers, and that it was a rarity among fae.

Carling started with simple exercises in order for me to feel my powers deep within. She occasionally asked Keelan to help me and so he did. The buzzing sensation became more prominent with each passing day.

We also came to conclusion that I had multiple powers such as healing, flora, fire and water. Keelan was surprised by my gifts for fae mostly had two gifts and royalty three. Keelan's other two powers being fire and he was able to change his looks, along with his mind reading ability of course.

He helped me develop my powers so that I was able to use and control more properly. He kept apologizing for awakening my powers, but I was glad he did.
After five endless days of practising I decided to take a break. When I finished my dinner I excused myself before I went to sit outside. I wanted to clear my thoughts. I couldn't believe my life changed so much in the last few days. Everything was so new and exciting. And the fact that the legend said that Keelan and I were soulmates scared me a little bit.

I was lost in thought when I suddenly heard the crunching of a leave next to the cabin. It was a already dark outside and I couldn't see properly, I quickly stood up to inspect the sound when the cabin door opened and Keelan stepped out.

I smile spreads across my face and I momentarily forget about the sound I heard.

"So this is where you're hiding?"he asked as he came closer to stand next to me.

"I needed fresh air." I said.

"I know how you feel. I can only imagine what you must feel like after receiving all these truths."

"It is overwhelming." I said with a sigh.

"You know I'm here for you right?" He asked as he cups my face with his hand and stares into my eyes. The same eyes I've come to love. Wait love?

I realised right then and there that after spending all these days with Keelan I couldn't imagine my life without him. He became part of me and I wouldn't survive without him.

"Keelan."

"Yes?"

"I...I...thank you." I wanted to tell him that I loved him, but I was scared. Scared of loving someone again. I knew Keelan would never hurt me, but that didn't take away my fear. I was scared of handing my heart to someone again.

"It's my pleasure." He said with a big smile. "We should probably head off to bed." He said and I nodded thinking about my exercises that awaited me tomorrow.

I was about to walk past Keelan to the cabin, but his hand suddenly grabbed onto my wrist. I turned around to look at him, but then the next thing I knew his lips were pressed against mine. He kissed me. I was shocked at first but then I returned his kiss.

When he broke away he gave me a boyish smile before he whispered,"Goodnight my princess." After giving me a last charming smile he walked into the cabin. And I couldn't help the smile from forming on my lips or the buzzing sensation that spread like a wild fire within me.

Henry's POV

My blood boiled as I stare at the events unfolding right infront of my very eyes. He kissed her, the bastard kissed her and I only saw red. I had to make my move and soon. If Keelan didn't come out of the door we might've had her by now, but no he had to come outside.

I was furious. How could he take her away from me? Did he not think I will find her? And she has powers? How did I not see that.

"We have to do it tonight." I told Mr Frog who was sitting beside me, for the last couple of days we watched them closely and their routine for a opportunity. Rose was still standing outside. She looked momentarily shocked with a smile on her face. When she was about to walk into the cabin I quickly stepped on a leaf to get her attention.

She stopped and turned around to face me. Luckily she couldn't see me in the dark because I was hidden behind a tree. She walked over asking if anyone was out there. When she was right next to the tree I jumped up and grabbed her. She was about to scream but I quickly placed my cloth over her mouth to muffle her screams. She struggled for a few seconds before she fell into my arms, unconscious.

I picked her up quickly before placing her on my horse. I climbed up behind her and called Mr Frog to hurry. We had to get as far away from here as possible, before the Prince finds his princess gone. We rode hard and fast and I couldn't help but smile at the thought that Rose was back in my arms where she belonged.
