Chapter Twenty-Three
I read the article in a hurry my stomach rolling, was I jealous? No of course not, I had no right to be jealous, right?
And who knew if this was even jealousy. It was probably annoyance.
"Isandra open up," Yelled Alex from outside. I groaned putting my phone away trying to vanish the image of the prince dancing with Carolina, they were engaged. They had a right to dance.
I mean sure his hand was a bit too low for my liking and she was a bit too close for everyone's liking really, but they were going to be married, who was I to judge.
Sure he kissed me but of course he only did that because-I had no theory.
I had a right to judge, the nerve he had to dance with her at the party and then kiss me afterwards. Could I shoot him yet?
Alex opened the door and I raised myself onto my elbows as he closed it.
"Just because you have a card doesn't mean you can come in without asking me, it's called privacy," I narrowed my eyes at him as I leaned back down.
"Privacy doesn't exist when you are my sister, what's wrong?"
"Nothing,"
"Ahhh," he said sitting down like he figured it out. I raised an eyebrow and then closed my eyes.
"What?"
"You're on your period,"
My eyes flew open as I took him in, talking about females on their period without going red, that was a first. But then that explanation was better than the truth.
"Do you want me to go get some banana lollies?"
"Yes," said automatically, did he even need to ask. The banana artificial lollies everyone hated, I loved with passion and usually they hit the sugar cravings I got when I was on my period.
"Alright well get up, finish that breakfast. The king wants you present at his meeting,"
I groaned rolling around in bed nearly pushing the plate over the edge, if it wasn't for Alex's fast reflexes it would have fallen over.
"I have cramps,"I lied moaning into the blanket. I felt the bed rise as he got up taking my plate with him, wait, give me my bacon.
"Lies, You never get cramps. Ten minutes, Foyer, be there,"
I cursed, damn it cramps for once come at me. I looked at the ceiling before I knew that I had to get up, the king called me. I just hope the prince wasn't there.
"Do you have my lollies?"
"Did you be a good girl?"
I raised an eyebrow staring at Alex right in the eye, "Duh,"
He chucked me a yellow packet as I sat on the grass in the oval behind the barracks and opened it shoving three into my mouth and sighing. That sugar hit.
Alex shook his head sitting beside me, "Don't you have some place to be?" I asked swatting his hand away as he grabbed a handful, he rolled his eyes dropping them all but two, okay I'll let him have two.
"Yes,"
"Then go," I said watching the younger guards train, damn that physique.
"I'm already here," he said and I rolled my eyes and ignored all the family feels shoving more candy in my mouth. Candy always made everything better, even though they caused break outs. Candy was worth it.
Can I marry candy, clearly they don't dance with one person and go kiss another one later. Damn it Isandra get over it, he probably thought you were his beloved fiancee and kissed you.
It was my fault for wearing that stupid dress and looking girly, and definitely my fault for playing cards with the soon to be king.
He was a king, and I was a mere guard, what was I thinking.
"What happened to your uniform?"
"It expanded in the wash," I lied, I may have stolen some one else's slightly larger uniform, just to look unattractive and ugly, even if Carter was staring at me the whole time during the conference. Maybe he thought I got fat and can leave me alone now.
Greyg-no Carter, giving them nicknames only makes them seem close, Carter did seem to be watching my every move which was getting on my nerve. Who was he my brother?
Because that spot was already taken and Alex was annoying, very annoying.
"Have you had lunch yet?"
"Um yes?" I lied, I avoided the lunch zone, just so I don't run into anyone there and plus I had this bag of lollies I could finish.
'I'm going in to eat, want to come?"
I scoffed, yea right, "No thanks," I said lifting up my beautiful golden company, "I'm all good,"
He gave me an odd stare before getting up and rushing off, I guess he was hungry, really hungry.
"Shut up," I whispered to my growling stomach as I shoved more lollies up my face, I think I can skip one lunch and still live, or maybe I can sneak into the kitchens later. The cooks did love me, and they know me.
I pulled out another lolly and laughed when I saw two of them joined, and soon the laughter was replaced with sadness. The last time I got one of these, he was there with me laughing and named them "Twinbanies," which was a mix of twins, bananas and babies.
I laughed putting that lolly on my lap and reaching for the next one as I felt a shadow over me.
I bit the end off looking up and saw the devil himself, "Shouldn't you be inside in case someone tired to kill the prince?"
"That wasn't funny,"
I shrugged, "Was never meant to be,"
And much to my dislike Carter sat down and I cleared my throat placing another lolly in it so I didn't have to speak.
"It's going to rain,"
"I like rain," I said making sure he got a lovely view of my munched bananas mess.
"You'll get sick,"
"Well time to use those sick leaves I have been saving up over the years," I had never pulled a sickie, but there was always a first for everything.
"Sorry,"
"You should be," I said looking around, damn it Alex couldn't you bring me a bottle of water as well? My mouth was feeling overly too sweet. But then again I guess that's what happens when you stuff your face with sugar and yellow food dye.
"I'm apologizing for the fact you seem angry at me, not for the fact of kissing you, if I could do it again and know you wouldn't punch my left eye out, I would," he said standing up.
My mouth slightly dropped at his forwardness, and here I thought he was going to make some stupid excuse that he was slightly drunk because he was off duty or something, not confess his kissing habits.
"Turd," I whispered quietly as he gave me a nod and turned around walking off and then realised he has nicked my twinbanies.
"Hey." I said rushing to my feet nearly tripping over. Maybe these extra-large pants were a bad idea.
Some of the guards training by the side turned around staring at me and I waved a hand, "Not you lot,"
Go back to kicking the air.
"Yes?" said Carter turning around one eyebrow arched like I was the one wasting his time.
"I want it back," I said holding my palm out. He was a good ten feet away but I was sure he could hear me well.
"I have no idea what you are talking about," he said feigning innocence and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Carter if you don't-,"
"Come to dinner with me,"
"What?!"
"If you come to dinner I'll give it back to you,"
"B-," I stood there speechless not sure how to start the sentence that said, No but I want my lolly. I didn't need to, he turned around and walked back towards the building and I stared at his retreating dinner.
Did I really want the lolly that bad? And I could go right, free food. Who could say no to free food? Plus it's not like I had something for the prince anyway, even though I could still feel his lips on mine.
He had her, so I could go on a date?
Couldn't I?
Should I?
