Chapter Twenty-Seven
Surprised a lot of people missed this, the reason she was like "Eww cheesecake, " was because Carter gave her it on their date, not because she doesn't like it. Exams over, hope I didn't fail
"Shit," I said as he held out a hand, it hurt.
"I know, girls have that reaction when they look at me,"
"What?" I said realizing this guy was hovering over me, too close. I ignored his hand getting up in one swift move, I was nearly his eye level thanks to my ankle boots that had a fair chunk of heel.
His eyes went from my head to my neck to my toes and back, "Interesting, I was expecting someone older, but I'm not complaining," He threw his arm over me bending down to pick up the ball, making me swoop down with him making my head spin.
I flicked his arm off me wiping my shoulder and he feigned sadness clutching his heart.
"Nik," He said holding his hand out, one part of me wanted to say, Yes I know who the hell you are, but I was going to try and be nice and shook it, "Isandra,"
It was something new I was trying to try, but I don't think I could stay too nice for too long.
"I know who you are," He said and I grunted, I should have said my sentence.
"Nik pass us the ball man,"
I looked over his shoulder to see a few more guys waving at him and Nik held up a hand telling them to wait, he turned back to me, "You okay?"
"Yes why?"
"That bruise looks ugly,"
Bruise? Where?!
*
"Does it still hurt?" asked Nik as we sat down in our seats. After meeting the other guys I realised one thing, who ever hurled that ball had one good arm stroke. And no one pointed finger when I was introduced as Nik's cousin.
Asses were loyal it seemed.
I wasn't sure how much of that was believable since we looked nothing alike, but the boys sucked it up asking me where I came from. Thankfully I had memorised the file about my 'make do family' on the way and was able to answer their questions easily.
His hazel eyes were staring and I was hypnotized by them, the colour, so familiar.
He leaned over to touch my head and I slapped his hand away, "I'm fine," I said as more kids started pouring in and the noise level went up, why was it so noisy?
In fact I was not fine, it hurt. Just because I was strong, doesn't mean I didn't feel pain, I did and it was a rare occasion like these so my head felt like it was on fire. I was too afraid to touch it in case I felt a bump, and then someone will die.
I watched as an older man walked in placing his stuff on the table, "Alright let's get on with today's lecture, take out your notes,"
I watched as a power-point was shown on the projection and my mouth dropped, this was amazing.
"I know I hate maths too," said Nik beside me and I realised what I might look like, my mouth open at a projection where numbers and letters were everywhere.
"Are you kidding, it's amazing," I said smiling and leaned back, let the lecture begin.
While people around me dozed off, got on their phones I maintained eye contact with the projection. I don't know why people were finding this boring, even Nik went off doodling around the page whatever he was trying to draw.
I didn't understand a word he said, let's be frank no one really likes maths, and if you did well then you were the exception, but seeing the lecturer write on the projection on his computer and then it being on the screen was quite cool.
"That was cool," I said as I stood up as the lecturer finished. Nik rolled his eyes picking up his bag, "Are you kidding me?"
I picked up my own following him, "What?"
"Okay it was cool, I had time to sleep and had a dream about Megan Fox,"
I rolled my eyes, typical boys.
"Don't worry, it looks much better,"
I followed him out the lecture hall, "Really?"
Should I take the risk and look in a mirror?
"No, I just got used to seeing it on your face,"
I stopped as he smiled and walked off. The arse wipe. I followed behind him at a close distance as one of his friends joined him and they started talking about some sport on Tv. I took this time to take in the campus.
The campus was big, bigger than I expected. Similar buildings were placed together, for example the science building seemed to all neighbor each other with their own gardens while the Maths buildings were a twenty minutes walk to the other side.
We all sat around a table, "Would you like some?". I looked at the bag of smarties that was offered and politely declined.
As much as I loved chocolate I wasn't in the mood. Instead I was more focused on checking the surroundings, to do my job properly.
I looked around the table trying to pin point who exactly it was that knocked me out, they had one strong arm, but it was near impossible.
Felix was a quite one sitting munching on the smarties, his rugged appearance and messy brown hair made him look bad arse, except his blue eyes were gentle. Focusing more on a leaf that was blowing away than talking about some after exams party.
Sitting next to him was someone, his name rhymes with cream. Dream? I had no idea what his name was but he looked more mischievous as he grabbed another handful if shapes from the packet and shoved then in his mouth, all at once.
Disgusting.
Next to them was Nik, followed by one that send shudders through my body. His hair was a pale blonde and his eyes zoned in on me as I looked at him. There was something about those eyes I didn't like.
I looked away first feeling uncomfortable, he had a bad vibe and he was who I was going to keep an eye on.
My eyes focused on Nik as he talked to the guys, he seemed care free joking with then and I smiled.
Was this what I could have had if I went to college? a group of friends?
It was know I didn't take kindly to friends, especially when you were in a profession where one day you might just have to kill a friend, an enemy or even a family member. It was a job.
Or maybe no one would have been my friend, maybe I would have an entirely different life if I took up a book instead of a gun. Who knew.
And sitting here thinking about it wasn't helping. Somehow in my stomach I was missing Alex.
I've been on plenty of missions where I spends days weeks and sometimes months away from him but after seeing him everyday for the last couple of weeks. I missed his company.
I didn't have time to sit and sorrow because Nik got up, his face looking flushed "I-I'll see you all tonight then"
He hurried from the table and I frowned well that was weird. I got up and followed him catching up, damn he was fast I'll give him that.
I caught up just as the doors to the elevators were closing and squished inside.
"Oh Isandra,"
I raised an eyebrow as I followed him to his room, a shared room we had to stay in.
It was better than what the others students got, he had his own bathroom, mini kitchen and they were all separated by mini walls before three beds were by the window.
A spectacular view of the campus from the top floors.
So far no one shared the room except now, I was here.
Not that I was going to sleep much, I had to stand guard and be alert every second.
"So do you want to tell me what that was about?" I asked as he paced around the room before jumping onto the only double bed that was in the room.
"Oh that well there is a party tonight we are all going," he said he leaned down grabbing clothes from his bags. I frowned as I watched him rush to the bathroom, completely avoiding my question.
I knew he knew that I was asking about the rushing from the table part, not the table conversation.
I sighed placing my hands on my hips party? Tonight?
I don't do parties.
