Chapter Twenty-Eight

For those who say with 100% no wait 300% confident that "Um excuse me, smarties aren't chocolate okay, fix it," I will fucking punch you, because the way you said it was bitchy, not because what you said was wrong and you telling me to get my "shit" together was just uncalled for. Smarties are chocolate, before you state it with that tone and confidence, there is this thing called Countries, and not all of them are the same, and also a thing called Google, use it to make sure you are right before saying stuff like that. Ya'll know I get fucking pissed when people well simply piss me off. It really sets me off and makes me not want to update cause people can't enjoy a story and simply want to nitpick on small things. For those who are genuinely confused, smarties are both chocolate and candy.

Rant Rant Rant.

 ---

"Is that seriously what you are wearing," I halted one foot out of the car before I shrugged stepping out, "What is wrong with it?" I asked flicking my hair out of my face.

Nik shook his head throwing the blue dress into the car, he somehow thought that if he held onto it, I would miraculously change, for him, hell no.

"People don't wear jeans to parties Isandra, and if they do they aren't so..." he said waving a hand lost for words.

"Speechless, I have that effect on people," I smirked using his own words back at him. He narrowed his brown eyes at me.

"No you look like a nun,"

"Thank you," I smiled turning around as he shook his head and locked the door, was this the party? It was a house party, of course I could wear what I want. As I walked up towards the door with him I doubted myself, he was right I was a nun compared to the rest of the people.

Short handkerchiefs that looked like dresses, or short shorts and if there was an odd girl wearing jeans, it was paired with a bikini top. Jesus do people even have respect for themselves.

I looked down at my thick woolen jumper, maybe I was over dressed. Oh well, I shrugged following him trying not to crash into someone and walked to the back room where the other were sitting down on black leather couches.

"My man you made it," a figure shoved me aside and hugged Nik and I frowned, do you even see?

He apparently does since his green eyes met mine and he smiled, "Who's your lady friend?" his eyes roamed over me and I raised an eyebrow, there was nothing to see, my jumper was thick and big so it could hide the gun that was tucked in the side of my jeans, yet it looked like he was eye raping me.

Gross.

"The friend can speak for herself you know," I pushed past him and took the only chair that was away from people practically sitting on each other and crossed one leg over another as they stared at me.

"What?"

They looked away going back to whatever they were doing and I sighed, I was fun at parties.

I watched from my seat rejecting every offer of dancing or drinks, I knew better than taking drinks from strangers.

"Hey you look fun,"

I looked up to see Nik smiling down holding his what, third can of beer.

"You should slow down on those," I said nodding to the can, that was his third one in the last hour, and by the looks of it, the party was only starting.

He shrugged taking a swig before handing it to me, "Drink up angel," and then he was off into the crown leaving me with a three-quarters full can of beer.

I frowned looking at the can before raising it up and sniffing it, got it smelt revolting and I looked around till I saw the pot plant on the table and leaned forward tipping it out.

There, good riddance.

I looked up my eyes meeting his pale blonde hair and then his eyes as he leaned against the wall watching me, one eyebrow raised.

He straightened up walking towards me and plopped himself down in the couch next to me.

"Take it you don't party,"

"I don't alcohol," I replied sitting in my seat, why was he talking to me. There was something about this guy that just sent shivers up my spine, not the good kind either.

He nodded taking his own can of cranberry and vodka and raising it to his lips, "I'm Eden," he said as he took a swig.

And I have a gun, but of course I didn't say that part out loud. I frowned seeing smoke come from upstairs.

"Are they-?" I asked looking at Eden who looked like he didn't have a care in the world.

"Yep," he replied not even looking up from his phone. I frowned standing up, they were doing drugs? I grunted, Nik better not be there, they had enough controversy already he didn't need to dominate the paper, again.

"I wouldn't go up there,"

I froze mid step and looked over my shoulder, "Why?"

Eden shrugged frowning, "Seniors, they do things differently,"

"Would Nik be up there?" I asked, there was no point going if Nik wasn't there. Eden shrugged and I nodded, decision made.

Plus I had a gun. I walked towards the kitchen first, I'd check the bottom floor before going to mess with the seniors, and I didn't want to stay too long inhaling the smoke, weed most likely.

The kitchen was empty apart from a couple going at it beside the fridge, disgusting. Wrinkling my nose I headed to the main hall where bodies were shoving against each other, they called that dancing?

Maybe it was a good thing I stayed away from civilization like this, it made me want to take out my gun and shoot people that pissed me off, and that was bad. I looked around trying to find him, he wouldn't be that hard to spot, he was wearing a bloody neon green shirt.

And he thought he looked better than me. I turned around when I came smashing into a chest, Jesus Isandra what happened to your senses? Maybe it was because I sniffed that beer.

I moved aside to let him pass when he just stood there, I looked up, "Can I help you?"

"Yes, Can I have your number?"

"Um no," I said leaning back, god he was drunk, he handed me a fresh glass, filled to the brim "So I hear you're popular,"

"What?" I asked my hand inching towards my gun. Damn it no you aren't allowed to shoot him, no  bad girl, hand down.

I placed my hands in my back pockets, just to make sure they didn't have a mind of their own.

"Just have a drink," he pushed the cup towards me, the liquid sloshing around. Definitely spiked, if anything that fizzing was to go by, light bubbles so small I wouldn't have picked it up if I wasn't staring at the cup.

"No, and if you don't move out of my way, I'll take your teeth apart, one tooth by one, and hang it on the wall like nails,"

He laughed throwing his head back and then froze as my words registered and then looked at me, "Crazy," he muttered moving past me, that's what I thought.

I turned around to head up the stairs when I saw the guy had gone from me to another guy, they were trying to get guys spiked as well? But when they both looked at me, I knew that wasn't it.

"Why isn't there any food here?" I sulked up the stairs dragging my feet, I was starving.

The closer I got upstairs the more smoke I saw coming from the rooms, jesus they could start their own factory here, make some good cash, wait that was probably what they were doing.

Was I meant to get them arrested doing my job?

Or was I meant to blend in and smoke some with them, alright no smoking but was I meant to keep my lips sealed?

I reached the top of the stairs and placed my hand on my hips looking around, most doors were closed and I didn't know whether or not I should go in. So instead I pulled out my phone from the back pocket, his number was in here somewhere.

I had saved all the important number in here for this assignment.

Nik - Mission 484 there he was.

I clicked on his number and waited for it to ring, pick up. I frowned walking down the corridor, maybe at least I could hear the ring.

Nothing.

Maybe I should check downstairs again. Just as I was about to leave I heard it, a small ring tone coming from the other end.

I walked up to the door, seeing the light underneath.

"Nik you in here?" I knocked on the door tapping my foot. I could hear music from inside and chattering, he better be in here.

Shit.

I looked to my side to see a group of people rushing down the stairs, yea just rib me on the way why don't you.

The door opened and I looked up into a chest, no that wasn't right, I raised my eyes to see someone raising an eyebrow at me, "Can we help you?" as bored tone asked.

"Eh yes, is Nik in there?" I asked suddenly feeling sick. I gripped the door frame maintaining my balance.

"Nik? No, why would he be up here?"

"I heard a p-," Oh god. I placed a hand on my stomach, was I going to throw up?

"Are you okay?"

"Yea, um, nevermind,"

I turned around letting go and my knees gave out under me making me fall. For fu*ks sake can't anything ever go right?

*

I gritted my teeth trying not to punch him in the face. The whole journey here he couldn't stop and wouldn't stop singing to the stupid radio.

I gave him a dirty look and he looked at me smiling, and this is why I worked by myself, I hated people.

"You really make car rides fun,"

I closed my eyes, six more days I told myself, one has already gone from travelling, make sure this whoever this person was doesn't die for six more days, maybe I can bury Detergen I mean Daniel and kill him, and then go home and then do my solo work.

Six more days.

"What are you thinking?"

"None of your business," I spat our irritated, I was tired, sleepy and this kid wouldn't let me drive so here he was driving slowly, sticking to the speed limits. Does he want to get there before sunrise?

"How much longer?"

"Nearly there," he said just as he swerved off the road. I swore grabbing the handle, was he trying to kill us? But instead of the expected trees and forest there was a path, I frowned looking out the window. The only light was from our car, and it lit up.

"Um, where are we going?" I asked, was he trying to get us lost, or did he think he could drive me into the forest and kill me, well this boy had another thing coming.

"They man is living in a safety house, middle of the forest,"

"In a forest though," am I the only one who thinks there are more dangers in a forest than a city. They should hide him in a spot no one will mind, like a most popular hotel, not in the middle of no where.

"Your hair smells nice,"

I slapped his hand as he tried grabbing it and banged my head on the window, hurry up.

The house was  like a mini mansion, there was no way this was built for him, it made me wonder who made this house in the middle of the forest and why?

I got out even before the car came to a full stop hearing him yell something behind me. Whatever.

I walked up to the door and knocked as Det-Daniel ran up after locking the car.

"You're meant to wait for me,"

"Whatever, be faster," we closed his mouth from saying something as the door opened and I looked up smiling and did a double take.

He was so young! What did he need to be running from?

Well he was younger than I expected, he welcomes us in giving up hot drinks which I was greatful for.

"So who are you hiding from?" I asked raising the hot chocolate to my lips huddling by the fireplace while he sat in the big arm chair and Daniel was leaning against the far wall.

"I'm a journalist,"

That explains it, no it explains a lot.

"I recorded something I shouldn't have and now they want it back," he said running a hand across his jaw where slight stubble was growing. He had light grey eyes that looked thoughtful as he stared into the fire.

His name was Michael, and he was thirty-one, but I swear he looked younger.

"Well I'll se you in the morning, I'm off to bed," I nodded as he walked off and spread my legs out at the fireplace relaxing.

"You should sleep too," I said feeling his presence in the room. "I'll keep the first watch,"

I looked at my cup, maybe I needed a refill.

"Do you want a refill," My eyes flickered up as he kicked off the wall nodding to my cup, it was like he read my mind. I sighed, well I might as well try and get along with him, I had the next six days.

"Thanks," I said handing him my cup, he nodded carefully taking the handle and I bit back a smile, well done, touch me and cry.

He came back with two new steaming cups of hot chocolate and I smiled at the floating marshmallow. I lay on my stomach poking it so it went under the chocolate, and brought my finger licking the chocolate on my finger.

Six days of doing nothing, I was surely going to get bored.

"So Sandy," he said sitting down.

I raised an eyebrow, "Excuse me?"

"Well it's your new nickname, I think its great," he said taking a sip of his own mug, wasn't it too hot to gulp it down like that?

I shook my head, Sandy, where on earth did he get that from Isand-oh right.

"Tell me about yourself,"

What?

*

"Well yep you've been drugged,"

I grunted, or tried to but no sound came out as I lay on the bed they placed me on. No doubt someone had stuck a syringe into me, and I had a feeling I knew who it was. Eden was wrong, the seniors were more than friendly.

Sure there were two just smoking weed in the corner but the other one brought me into the room when I fell and they all were very friendly, well hearing by the conversation they were talking about.

"You're really strong you know that," I would have raised an eyebrow if I could as the guy sat down on the ground next to my bed, "Most people get consumed by the drug, paralyzed but you don't seem that paralyzed,"

Oh really, do you see me moving Robert, do you. I rolled my eyes, at least that part of me was still functioning.

How much longer, not too long, it had been already an hour and I could feel my toes start to come back. The moment I got my body back I was seriously going to injure someone. Did they think to just paralyze me and then have my way with me, Oh yes, I was going to have my way with them, but they weren't going to be paralyzed.

Oh no. I smiled in my head I did, evilly, they were going to regret this.

"What's with her?" I heard Nik's voice from the doorway and grunted, inside anyways.

I saw an amused face in my view as he laughed, "And I thought you were meant to be protecting me,"

I sighed, I was, and then I met you.

 *

"Are you better now?"

"At least I can talk," I said as Nik placed me on the bed, most of my feeling came back, at least my legs did so when Nik helped me out of the house, it just looked like I was too drunk. I could still picture both the guys faces, next time I saw them I was going to shove my gun so far up their arse, that it would touch their hearts.

Arseholes.

"You can stop laughing," I said as Nik tried not to laugh, the whole car ride he was joking about how it was me who needed saving, well at least I was fine, if he got a syringe to his ribs I was sure he would be flat out, not even be conscious.

"Do you want me to change you?"

"Touch me and die,"

He put both his hands up and smiled, brown eyes glinting mischief as he walked to his own bed, "Just trying to be a friendly,"

I frowned, I knew someone else who told that to me once, look where I ended up.
