Chapter Thirty-Eight
Listen to the video on the side, hot song from Maroon 5, don't watch their actual video, it's fucked. The song itself is called "Animals' if the video doesn't work, just look it up when you have time
"Why do we have to stay locked up in here?"
I looked up from the novel I was reading locking my eyes with the prince.
Thankfully he had changed out of his vomit filled clothes into spare clothes Eden had in his car, that were too big for him and hanging off his shoulders. With dark circles under what used to be stunning eyes he looked more homeless than a prince.
"Do you want to die?" I asked responding to his question.
Alex kicked the side of my waist and I glared up at him sitting on the couch. I knew lying on the ground in front of him would be a mistake, with the amount of times he had been gently kicking me, I was sure I was going to get a bruise.
Well it was't my fault that the prince was that stupid and had to ask questions that made me really doubt his knowledge. How did he even get into uni?
How the hell was he going to run a bloody country?
Was he even a prince?
Do you even human mate?
Jax narrowed his eyes muttering something and raising his cup to take a sip. I rolled my eyes going back to the English novel Eden had in his car, man, who even reads this stuff? And why the hell did he have everything in his car, the man even had spare toothbrushes and toothpaste.
It was a story that took place in world war two, but it was boring.
Eden walked back in with another cup of hot chocolate for Nik who was the only other person on the floor with me, except he was huddling next to the fire place cowering, and scared. And the cheeky flirt I met was replaced with a five year old that was scared.
Which made me a bit sad for him, but welcome to life. It wasn't always happy and fun.
Eden sat back into his arm chair and crossed one leg over another, in the dim lit light of the room that bounced of his jaw line, it seemed very familiar.
I looked back at the book I was reading, trying to concentrate but how can people write such boring books. And how did boring books always get famous?
I groaned closing it and dropping my head, with a not so silent thud, onto the ground. I was hungry. I watched Eden curiously, there was something incredibly similar about him that made it eerie as I watched him. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, my finger hesitating before I typed in the URL.
Surely this wasn't illegal, I was just simply checking up on a fellow worker. I mean I wasn't planning to kill him or something was I? No, just a check. It was then I realised I didn't know his surname.
"Eden?" I asked casually, or tired asking casually trying not to seem like I was trying to dig up his past. I mean a girl can get curious.
"Yes?" he asked looking up.
"What's your surname,"
"Ca-" he stopped abruptly and cleared his throat sitting up, "Why?"
I shrugged, "Just curious, I realised I don't know much about the people I work with," I pushed my phone to the side, subtly or I hoped it was that subtle. With the way his eyes were narrowed at me, I think he didn't buy my lie one bit.
"Black,"
"What?"
"It's Eden Black,"
I frowned nodding, not a bad last night name, hell did even his last name have to be as mysterious as him?
I leaned over rolling onto my side hopefully blocking out what I was doing, but of course Alex had hawk like eyes.
"Isandra,"
"Yes brother?" I asked my eyes flickering up.
Alex narrowed his eyes at me and I smiled putting my phone down and yawned, "Wow I think we should sleep," I said, of course the jerk was going to be awake when I needed to look Eden up. I placed my head on the ground and closed my eyes, sleep, come to me.
*
"Where did you go?"
Wow, "no welcome back". I closed the door looking at both Nik and Alex that were glaring at me from their seats. Nik was hugging that cushion too tight, did he think it was a teddy bear? Well that was cute.
"Isandra, you don't leave the cabin," Alex scolded me like I was some kid, I raised an eyebrow at him as I shrugged my coat off, man it was pouring outside. Did he forget I was probably more skilled than he was and I would be saving his arse, not the other way around.
"I had something to do," was my only reply as I hung it up digging something out of the pocket. Nik and Alex both watched me curiously, more what I was holding but thankfully it was in an envelope.
"Where is Eden?" I asked. Alex nodded towards the closed doors that led outside, I nodded. Where was Jax?
"Nik, I need to talk to you afterwards,"
"About?" Alex asked confused.
"Don't worry about it," I said running a hand through my half wet hair that was in a tight bun, god it felt revolting. I walked towards the door, ah there he was. Jax was busy eating, or more falling asleep with his face half in the bowl.
I continued to the back and opened the door to find Eden relaxing in a chair. How was he enjoying sitting out in the rain? Wasn't he cold? I shivered as I closed the door, I should have brought my jacket outside.
Eden looked up raising a questioning eyebrow.
"You lied," The urge to kick the stupid newspaper he was reading out of his hand was high, really high. Eden looked up, calm, as he turned the page before folding it in half and reading it, "About what?"
Wait, how did he even have a newspaper, but then I saw the date realising it was nothing recent. So why on earth was Mr. Eden who's surname was not Black, reading a fuc*ing newspaper?
I threw a picture at him and he froze. He looked up at me and then picked it up, staring at the girl in the picture, "She's still alive,"
He simply handed the photo back and turned to the next segment, "I know,"
My jaw dropped as I looked at the beautiful innocence staring at me through the picture and then at him. How could he kill someone so gorgeous, her blue eyes had happiness, her glowing hair looked healthy and her skin was flawless, as much as I hated perfect people, she was pretty much perfect.
Well perfect for Eden, somehow I could just tell they looked stunning standing next to each other. Not to mention their kids would have pale blonde hair, wait, why was I even making them have kids.
Oh god Isandra.
"You said she died," I was confused now. He raised an eyebrow at me before nodding towards the chair next to him, and I followed sitting down confused.
"So?"
"What do you mean so? I thought you were heart broken," I snapped, man I even felt pity for this guy. Eden turned towards me shaking his blonde hair and smiled at me. "That's cute,"
I flicked his hand before he could touch me, "Why did you say she was dead?"
"Why else would someone say that?" he asked crossing his hands over his chest and slouching in his chair like he was getting comfortable to sleep. I narrowed my eyes at him, "What do you mean?" I asked my voice getting harder.
"Don't tell me you've never lied before,"
I bit my lip, "That's different,"
He scoffed, "Hardly,"
"Why did you lie?"
"To protect them,"
I stared blankly at his face. He sighed kicking his legs out and crossing them at the ankles.
"If they're dead, no one would be looking for them, they won't be found, won't be bothered isn't that right Isandra?"
He grabbed the outdated newspaper while I sat there rotting in my thoughts.
If they were dead
I got up quickly heading back inside. I walked by Jax whose face was now fully in the bowl and wrinkled my nose.
"Nik," I called walking into the room. Nik was half chewing on his finger nails, "Yes?"
"Alex keep an eye on the prince so he doesn't drown in his own cereal," Alex rushed off in a hurry and I rolled my eyes sitting on the seat.
"Where did you go?"
"What?" I asked, wasn't I the one who was meant to be asking the questions?
"I saw you walk out before morning, and then you come back like in 12 hours. You know I thought you got killed,"
I smiled shaking my head, "Naw was little Nik scared?" I cooed making him blush.
"Shut up, I would rather be near you then the other two," Well I was the better agent, well i wasn't going to say that.
"I had some things to figure out,"
"Like what?" Nik leaned over in the couch so he was lying down with his cheek on the arm rest, I didn't mention that his neck would hurt when he got up, he could learn for himself. Plus, he wasn't my child or anything.
"Like the car?" Nik asked and I nodded. The car, right. "Among other things," I said feeling the picture in my pocket dig into my skin, even thought I was wearing a thick pair of jeans.
Stop it Isandra, you're just feeling things, imagining them. But I had to be sure. None of this made any sense.
"How are you related to the prince?" I asked.
"Cousins," Nik replied in a duh tone and I felt like smacking him across the head. Why can't I just hang him upside down naked and make scorpions bite him, go all James Bond-ess since I was a girl. But of course I'm sure Alex and Eden wouldn't really be happy, but that as really the fastest way to get someone to speak.
Well someone who wasn't trained to die before they spilled secrets.
"Nik, how are you related. Your parents? How are you cousins?"
"Oh," Nik said realization hitting him, well that hit him faster because I was about to hit him next.
"My mother and his father are siblings,"
I frowned, so they were cousin cousins, as in close cousins, "Who is older?"
"Well Jax was t-,"
"Your mother or his father?" I had to hit my head against something.
"My mum's three years older,"
I knew it. My fingers tapped against my thigh as my brain processed all this, and suddenly the last jigsaw fit into the puzzle.
"Then why is she not the Queen? Why is your uncle ruling and why is Jax next in line and not you?"
Nik froze, "I-i don't know?" he said.
'Bullshit, what are you not telling me Nikolevich?" I narrowed my eyes at Nik that was now shifting in his spot. He sat up frustrated and slammed the pillow in his lap.
"My mother," he spat out, "was a female," he rolled his eyes, "And she married for love so our grandfather found her emotions crowding her thought process and sort of dis-owned her, well not that it matters she didn't want to be the queen anyways,"
Well I didn't tell him that I agreed with the part that emotions did crowd with someone's thought processes. It made you feel things you shouldn't feel. It made you attached.
"Why?"
I looked up meeting Nik's brown eyes.
"I don't think it's Jax they are trying to kill,"
"Then why are we here?" He asked confused.
"They're trying to kill you, the legitimate heir,"
Nik went pale when Alex walked back in, "So I think the pr-," he stopped looking at us both, "What?" I sent Nik a silent look, hopefully that look said "Say something and I'll kill you,"
I looked at Alex, "Where is Carter?"
I actually have exams so not sure when the next update will be, hopefully soon. In other news I just painted my nails barbie hot pink and I have no fukin clue why or why I own such a colour.
And yes the story will end in 5-10 chaps, depending on how much I can do before exams i might have to do 2 page uploads or maybe wait a till I finish then do longer ones.
Also there was going to be a sequel but I hated reading and writing sequels they just get bland. So after this ends, there will be a spin off story that will continue for an extra fewo chaps, no point making a new story to tie of loose ends, I'll just extend it and have like 3 epilogues and tie up all the ends. This sound better?
And since we all love our bad arse Isandra, You can meet Bad arse girl called "hill" in a werewolf novel I will write after this. Why humans when you can break a wolf's neck in half? Plus I just felt like wolf drama, I mean the cliche Alpha mate omg i found you i must love you shit gets boring. This is different, like all my stories, cliche where it needs to be, and am other fuckin plot twist to make you hate me (did i just rhyme, yea!)
listen to the song to the side guys!!!
