Chapter Forty-Seven (Part 2)
Before I could decide what to do I heard footsteps, no doubt the guards were back to take me to a cell, or so I thought. So I was surprised when it was Daniel who came into my line of view sitting in the chair that the King sat in moments ago.
We stared at each other for a few more moments before he spoke first breaking the silence, "Well?"
My eyebrows wrinkled in confusion, "Well what?"
"Where do you want to go? I was thinking Australia, they have good weather."
"What are you talking about?" I asked, but I had a vague hint what he was talking about. Daniel slouched in his chair crossing his legs at the ankle and placing his hands into his pocket.
"I disappeared for two years, I can make us disappear again."
"I'm not running like a coward."
If I ran now, I had to live the rest of my life as a runner, and I would rather not live like that. And I didn't do anything wrong! Well...not totally wrong anyway. I had reasons for my actions, maybe I could have injured him and captured him but everyone knew that the prince would get away easy.
"It's not cowardly, just till...Alex sorts it out and gets your case removed."
"I don't need that, he's injured. Don't tell him about this."
Daniel raised an eyebrow, his hazel eyes scrutinising me.
"If I wanted to run away, I would have been gone by now. Getting out of a pair of handcuffs isn't that hard." I told him. I could have easily left and gone out that window to "Freedom," but I knew it wouldn't be freedom if I did that.
Survive or die, I had to do it with honour, not a black mark on my name. I could hear shuffling outside of the room and I started to wonder what exactly was going to happen now
Would I be taken to a jail cell? The place where criminals went? But I guess in a way I was a criminal now.
"Hey," Daniels foot kicked mine and I looked up at him, "You do realise were not going to let you go to jail right?
Jail was the least of my worries. If you go in, you can come back out. But a death sentence. There was no escaping that.
The door slammed open and I looked over my shoulder to see the now becoming familiar guards. "Here come the ogres."
I shifted in my seat surprised to see a familiar face, "oh Josh!" I smiled for once as he did a double take as he looked at me.
"What did you do? Get into a fight?" He asked as I looked over him. There was a new addition to his jacket a new badge.
"Just killed the prince." I said with a light hearted shrug.
Josh shook his head motioning for me to stand up.
"Of course you did."
"I'm not joking." I said confused as he turned me around, grasping my shoulders and I stood with my back to him. I looked at Daniel confused before I heard the jangle of keys.
"Hey. Josh. What are you doing?" Thankfully someone asked the question I wanted to and we looked over at the door where another guard was waiting.
"Transporting her like you told me to."
"Why are you taking her handcuffs off?" Was it just me or did the other guy look slightly nervous. Well that brought a slight smirk to my face. Did they really think I would hurt them and try to escape.
Well I guess any normal person would try to.
"She's not going to hurt anyone chill. Her wrists are red,"
I tried looking over my shoulder are they. But I didn't need too. I felt loose as I heard the keys jangle some more and the uncomfortable metal handcuffs came off and I rolled my shoulders. Thank god I didn't know about my wrists but my shoulders ached.
"Yo-You're not meant to!"
Josh ignored him bending down to pick something up, "Come on. The vans waiting for you."
I nodded following him when Daniel jumped up from his chair grabbing my wrist and I looked over my shoulder.
"Don't."
Don't what?
Don't own up to my crime?
Don't die?
Don't go?
It was a bit too late for that.
I shook my head untangling his fingers from around my wrist "I'll be back."
Josh watched us confused but didn't say anything or force me to move faster as I walked towards the door. And I couldn't help saying "Boo," and laugh as the other guard went red and jumped in his spot
Josh's hand dug into my back "Move." he said with an amused expression and i sighed. What a party pooper.
Following back down the corridor I came he led through a side exit and I was surprised by the reception I had.
One van. Three cars. Six motorbikes. Lovely.
Josh paused looking at me, I bet he wondered if I was telling the truth now. I followed down the stairs towards the dark blue van which no doubt was my very extraordinary ride. Couldn't they arrange a Limo for me?
"Why are her handcuffs off?" Someone called out and when I looked up it was quiet.
"Get in." Josh said somewhat kindly compared to just shoving me inside the van, opening the door I looked inside, well, how decorative.
There were two bench like seats, not even cushioned, facing each other next to a window and I sighed getting in. Usually I was the one who put people away in them, not be in it. I climbed in and two guards including Josh got in with me, what a squashed ride this was going to be.
"So where are we exactly going?"
"Shut up." The one next to me said and I raised an eyebrow at him, seriously? Was it just me, or was he a bit nervous? I decided to stare out the window as they started to drive, trying to see where we were going recognising the monuments and places. It was confirmed, it was the palace jail they were taking me to.
The cold dirty jail cells that ran underground the palace, no doubt would be crawling with insects and rats and god knows what else, that made me shudder. I didn't want to sit there. Was I gong to be held with the criminals who did far worse?
The red seemed much shorter than it was meant to be and I was once again flanked my guards as they led me to the cells, how very formal. I looked around trying to take in the last daylight for a while, see the nature I never really paid attention to. It was surprising how you start to notice the most smallest details when you start to be deprived of them, miss things when they weren't here.
I could see the maze from here, I wonder what the middle looked like, there was one thing I never got to finish, and I wonder what the prince's middle name was.
"This way," my upper arms were gripped so I couldn't run away, not that I would even if I could, and all the light vanished as we entered into a dark corridor that blackened everything out making me nearly trip over, they didn't stop to let my eyes adjust, they kept walking. So considerate.
There were a lot of jail cells, but the ones used were further down and I could hear nosies as we walked further down, chains clattering, sounds of pans banging, noise, and guards telling people to shut up. It sent a silent shiver down my spine being in such an atmosphere, and it reeked of urine and some other distinguished smell.
My nostrils burned with the stench. We walked by prisoner sitting on the ground, all of them in a uniform attire of bright red, did I have to wear that?
I was surprised, but at the same I wasn't as I was led to the far end where the most risky prisoners were kept, they had security cameras, bulletproof glass and more guards. I was stopped as Josh opened up the cell and pocketed the keys and I was shoved inside.
"Whatever you did, the Chief is on his way."
"That's not really going to help." I said as I looked at the place, at least the four "walls" were bullet proof which meant that no rats could come in through the gaps, one thing was going for me. And I couldn't really smell the stench that much from here, I sat down looking at the holes in the glass that were meant to be for "oxygen," well that wasn't fully bullet proof was it? A bullet could fit through those holes, so could a finger.
Josh nodded as he closed the door, and I watched as he locked it as I sat down on the ground, crossing my legs as I watched him talk to the guards, it was a shame I couldn't hear anything. There was a bright light in the corner that was burning into me, so I probably couldn't sleep with that light on anyway.
I looked around and a red uniform caught my attention from another cell across from me diagonal wise and I stared at the very familiar face.
Dad?
