Chapter Eighteen
"You guys will be okay on your own right?"
The guards nodded as Alex told them something coming back as I leaned against the bike.
"All okay?"
He nodded chucking me the helmet. I climbed on after him, this better be quick I was starving. I held on as he gradually increase the speed catching up to the Limousine riding beside it.
"Hold on," he screamed over the wind and I rolled my eyes letting go as he sped up wooting loudly as I felt the air bash against me.
"ISANDRA!
"Fine," I said rolling my eyes confused as he suddenly broke away from the other swerving off to the other side.
"Alex, where are we going?" I asked confused. He kept silent slowing down manoeuvring across roads till he finally found what he was looking for. I laughed seeing Moscow Oblast, a type of lake you can say. He parked in the side getting off and I hopped off taking my helmet off.
"Why are we here?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
He smiled ruffling my hair, "You want me to fuss over you, and so tonight is our sibling night, sit I'll get food," he said.
"Finally," I said, I was starving. He rolled his eyes chucking me the keys for the bike. I walked over to the park bench but instead sat on the ground leaning against it hugging my knees to the chest as I looked at the water. A night with Alex, pretending we were normal siblings.
I bit back a smile, it had been too long since we were like siblings. I watched the water, so calm, the flow of it sparking something in me.
I stared at the water leaning over looking in the fountain. Was that a fish?
I heard a voice being cleared behind me and I spun around coming face to face with some other teenager. Phew I thought it was an elder.
I was about to turn back when I stopped looking at him. He had this weird smile on him, like he knew something, a genuine one that crinled the corner of his eyes and showed a dimple to the right side of his face, only one, that was weird. His chestnut hair fell over his forehead messily and his eyes went over me.
"What?" I snapped.
"Nothing," he snapped. I looked back to my amazing fountain only to see no fish. Damn stranger he had to distract me, I was trying to see if there was a damn goldfish or not.
"So, I'm Daniel,"
"I don't care, honestly," I said bending down and looking at the bottom of the sculpture in the fountain. Maybe it was hiding under there. I had a ten dollar bet on this and there was no way I was going to not see my damn fish.
"You know you shouldn't, eh, bend like that,"
"What?" I asked looking over my shoulder.
"It makes your ass look dangerously good,"
I stood up my cheeks heating as I stared at this guy, was he for real.
"Yes I am for real," he said like he read my mind, and he did because there was no way I said that out loud.
"You-yo-urgh," I said sighing in frustration and walking away and outside. If the elders wanted me, they can come find me. Who the hell did he think he was. I looked over my shoulder at my ass, it looked like any other one. I grumbled stomping as I walked to the bench and sat down.
Great way to ruin my day.
I was called in exactly ten minutes later and I walked through the office doors straight ready to -what the hell was he doing in here.
My eyes instead met with the guy from outside, what was his name, Detergent?
"Take a seat Isandra," said the Elder. I gritted my teeth against the fact I would be sitting so close to him but nevertheless I sat down crossing one long leg over another and leaning back keeping my eyes on the elder well aware that a certain someone was looking at me.
"So I know this is your break week," said the elder. I nodded. I had just returned from my recent assignment, another success bringing a smile on my face but quickly vanished.
"But I need a favor,"
"Of course," I said nodding. It had already been two days and I was already getting bored here, perhaps another mission might be good.
"This time it's a bit different, no killing," he said. I raised an eyebrow, this wasn't my department, he might be better of asking Alex t do this.
"It's you can say a bodyguard,"
Yep that was definitely Alex's department, "But Alex would be better suited for this," I said.
The Elder nodded, "Alex was going to be picked but the importance of protecting this man is very high, therefore you were better suited, also protection does mean vigilance, which you are the best at," he said folding his hands on the table, "And there will be deaths involved. There is a lot of threat on this man, and," he said pausing.
"When the time comes, he must also be killed,"
I raised an eyebrow but I knew I wasn't going to get any more information, and usually you didn't ask any, not unless you were specifically told. I liked it that way, no emotional commitment to a case.
"Alright," I said nodding.
"It's very breif, and I want you to meet who you are working with,"
My eyes widened and I looked over to a smirking detergent and shook my head, "I work alone, you know that,"
The elder nodded smiling, "Yes but my grandson does too, this is important, two are better,"
"Eh, I can't work with him," I snapped. So he was the elder's grandson, so what I didn't like him. The elder laughed looking over to him.
"What did you do to her Daniel?"
Ah that was his name. Whatever I still didn't want to work with him.
"I said her a-"
"Nothing," I said loudly cutting them both off, that was embarrassing and he was going to tell his grandpa, I don't care how close they are.
"I'll do it," I snapped. It was roughly a week. I can bear this intolerant boy. Or so I thought.
"Catch,"
My head snapped up just to see a foil package snacking my face. Alex shot me a look, I never missed a catch.
"What is this?" I asked quickly saying something before he can realized what's wrong.
After a few moments of silence of us eating and me just staring at the water the wind was picking up making it colder.
"We should head back," Said Alex. I stood up shrugging, we did have a busy day tomorrow.
I got onto the bike behind him when my phone buzzed. I narrowed my eyes forgetting I even carried that on me and dug under my layers to grab it. I flicked it open to see a blank message.
Was this a joke?
I was about to delete it when I saw the number it was from.
"Hold on tight," said Alex starting the bike but the engines noise or his words weren't registering in my head. All I could do was stare at the number.
