Chapter Eight

None of my chapters are edited, so sorry not sorry.

I sighed patting my stomach as I walked into the castle door. Maybe I stayed out for a bit too long because the second I stepped inside Alex got up from the chair and glared at me.

"Where were you?"

"Eating the best hot dogs ever," I muttered. Clearly he hadn't tried them or else he wouldn't be that cranky. No one who had that could be that cranky. They were honestly the best I had ever had.

"You should have told someone, you know how worried I was? Where is your phone?" he snapped.

I reached for my back pocket, okay it wasn't there.

I smiled sheepishly "In my room?" I muttered. I had charged it the night before so I probably forgot to take it out.

"And what's it doing there?"

"Having more fun than me," I muttered. Getting a lecture was not fun, especially not one from Alex. He was like your dad, your mum, your ex-boyfriend, you teacher and the president of united states all in one. Ew not ex-boyfriend, this wasn't the incest chronicles.

He raised his hand pinching the bridge of his nose, probably heard me but thank god at the same time some random guard approached him. I quietly tip toed away and headed to the first door I saw, the one to the kitchen.

I sauntered in like I owned the place and looked around at the chaos that was going on and there right in the middle was greyguard chopping some type of fish up, or shall I saw skillfully slicing.

"What are you making?" I asked walking over. His eyes barely flickered up as he focused on the task.

"Dinner,"

"No shit Sherlock," I muttered grabbing a slice of salami from the plate. My stomach groaned, as much as I looked salami as well I was just too full, but that didn't stop me from taking a small nibble on it.

"Salmon," said greyguard after a long pause. I tried not to retch, I hated salmon. It was pink and I hated pink. Yes my reason was very justified.

"You don't like Salmon?' He asked his eyes flickering to my face that probably resembled a baby after it vomited, disgusting.

"It's slimy and gross," I muttered taking another bite of salami.

"That's because you've never tried it when I have made it,"

I rolled my eyes, cocky much?

"I bet it would taste no different,"

"Bet?"

"What do I get?"

"I'll think of something," he muttered. I shrugged, "Fine, you're on," I muttered popping the rest of the salami into my mouth. I always hated salmon, ever since the first taste so I knew it won't change my mind.

After spending a few more minutes walking around and talking to people and maybe taking a bite or two of the ingredients around I decided I might as well go outside. The palace had a massive, and oh I really mean massive garden with mazes and everything.

It was a night day and the heat was subsiding so I could walk around.

I went upstairs first though, changing out of this hideous uniform into some jeans and a button up top. As usual I placed my gun in my boots, the downside of skinny jeans, you couldn't strap it to your ankle.

I quickly hurried back downstairs before I ran into Alex who would mutter at me again, just because he was stressed.

I could feel the annoying metal brushing against my ankle bone but I tried to ignore it. Let's count sheep!

Wait I think that was only at night time. Whatever.

I skipped out past the doorman and towards the maze. Man I really wanted to do the maze. There were gardeners everywhere trimming, plucking, cleaning and polishing the flowers. Seriously, there was some doofus rubbing a cloth over some bud of a flower that hasn't even blossomed.

Why would you waste time polishing a flower? Surely it was more hazardous and unhygienic to polish a flower.

I looked over my shoulder thinking I heard Alex's voice and sure enough there he was talking to some gardener.

So i ducked, right into the maze knocking into someone and losing my balance.

"Well fish cakes mate watch it would you?" I muttered looking up and freezing.

A second time. I guess that was his exact thoughts as he smiled stepping back.

"I see you still blame others when it is your fault," said the prince and I smiled sheepishly shrugging.

"Well if you were keeping an eye out too you would have moved before I barrelled into you eh? So it's not completely my fault," I said, "Sire?" I added quickly. What on earth are you meant to call a prince?

Oh that's right, your royal highness.

I started walking and surprisingly he caught up to me falling into step very easily.

“So where is the wonderful Catherina?” I asked. He sighed shrugging as he kept pace.

“I heard she was taking a walk in the maze too,” I said. He stopped walking as I bit back a smile. “you’re lying” he said.

I looked over my shoulder, “Am i?” I asked as I plucked a random yellow flower of one of the hedges. I really hope there were no gardeners here, they would probably burn me alive if they knew I was plucking their flowers.

“Yes because she was meant to have tea with me,” he said catching up again.

“Which is funny, why are you here then?”
“You’re really observative aren’t you?” he asked. I smiled shrugging, “I think it comes with being a guard,” I said.

“OH gross,” I muttered dropping the flower when I realized it left a milky substance all over my fingers that were stick.

“Here,” he said pulling out a deep blue handkerchief that had a satin gold line going through it. Somehow it was simple but astounding and I was afraid to ruin it. But this was the prince, please, I am sure he had a whole room dedicated for them. One for each day.

I wiped my hand on it as we walked further down.

“I have a question,” I asked.

“Ask away,” he said placing his hands into his pocket as I opened up the handkerchief.

“What’s in the middle of the maze?”

The maze was a complicated well...maze and only a few have been to the middle and apparently it is the most beautiful thing you would expect. However since I had never been there, I wouldn’t know would I?

It was long and difficult to get there, but after that the route out was easy. I always thought if you started from the finish you would get there much quicker but the finish line from the palace was...a few kilometres away.

“Do you want to see?” he asked. I stopped looking up at him.

“Serious?” I asked.

“Of course, I haven’t been there in ages,” he said. His green eyes nearly matched the hedge behind him. except they were bright, not dull.

“Well let’s g-”

“ISANDRA!”

I winced as my name was called out, really loudly and froze. Oh great, Alex just slowly ruin my life why don’t you. The prince looked towards the palace and smiled then looked back at me.

“I think your brother calls for you,” he said.

I groaned, “Probably for another lecture no doubt,” I said pulling at the string on the handkerchief that had an initial embroidered onto it.

“Well we better head back,” he said starting to walk. I frowned looking behind me at the route I could possible take and say I was too deep down to hear him.

“I’ll take you another time,” said the prince.

“You have my word,” he added when I looked unconvinced. A royal’s word was good as a pink promise, “I’ll hold you to it,” I said as I caught up. The walk back was much shorter, probably because we hadn’t even gone in that much when he stopped nodding towards a blue flower.

“Orchids,” he said.

“That’s an orchid?” i asked. They were tiny and I assumed them to be much much larger in size.

He plucked one handing it to me, “Those won’t leave any residue,” he said. I turned the flower in my hands, it was beautiful, It was a mixture of deep blue with a touch of deep purple.

“There cannot be real,” I said feeling the soft texture of the petal.

“They are my mother’s favourite,” he said.

“I bet, they are beautiful,” I said. I had never thoughts  a flower could be this pretty. I stopped just before the exit of the maze.

“What’s your name?” I asked feeling extremely stupid. The prince stopped his eyes narrowing as he took me in, “You don’t know my name?” he asked.

I bite my lip sheepishly, maybe I should have paid attention to when Alex speaks.

“Well Isandra, my name is Alexavier,” he said. I felt bad, he knew my name and I didn’t- hey Alex yelled out my name so technically he may not have known it.

Wait what did he say his name was? I burst out laughing and he raised an eyebrow.

“Alexavier?” I asked, “What is that a mix between Alex and Xavier or something?” I asked and then stopped, “Sorry,” Man Isandra be nice. This guy is the prince, he could easily hang you!

“That was my first thought when I think about it, It means to help and defend someone, my mother used to tell me the origin of the meaning. But sometimes I just think she couldn’t choose between Xavier and Alex,” he said. I bit my lip from laughing, I had never ever heard such a name before. It was unique, and nice, and plain bloody hilarious.

“I’ll call  you Xavier then,” I said.

“Xavier?”

“My brother is Alex, so it’s a bit weird when I call you Alex, wouldn’t it be?” but then I had a brilliant idea. I could mentally abuse and swear at the prince and then pretend I was doing it at Alex!

My, my why was I so brilliant sometimes.

"You can call me James if you want,"

"James?"

"It's my second name," he said.

"Why are all royal names so...generic? They're always the same, no offense?" I added. He laughed nodding.

"To keep the conservatism, my mother hated that too. She gave me a third name,"

My, my how many names does one person need? All I got was Isandra.

"What's that?" I asked.

"ISANDRA GET YOUR ASS UP HERE NOW!"

I groaned stomping my foot like a child.

"I have to go," I said.

The prin-Alexavier James nodded and I sprinted towards the stairs and stopped.

"Hey!"  I yelled making him turn around, "What's your midd-third name?"

"Guess,"
