Chapter Seven
When Nami woke up, it was quiet– too quiet.
"Guys?", Nami called.
She got no answer, stood up and a look out of the window told the young woman that she slept for longer than planned.
"Guys?"
Again no answer.
Nami sighed and went into the area they used as a living room for the past few days.
"Hello?", she asked again and slowly started to worry.
She searched in every single one of the shops in the mall, but the others were nowhere to be found.
The young woman slowly realized that the others had gone to the game without her– but why?
And why were you not back yet? Did the game really take that long?
These and other questions went through the young woman head when she stepped up the stairs.
Nami wanted to pass the time and got two books, she always wanted to read, from the bookshop.
And as macabre it sounded, now she had the time.
She threw her bag onto the table, blowing a piece of paper off the table.
Nami didn't remember that someone from the group wrote a note.
She picked it up and read it.
LETTING YOU SLEEP. DO NOT WORRY. SEE YOU IN A MINUTE.
Nami scoffed and put the note back on the table.
In moments like this she hated that Arisu, Korube and Chota were so protective over her.
Which was probably because Nami was the youngest.
But she still could have helped them.
The game probably wasn't be that difficult, right?
Well, if the game was so simple, the others would have been back long ago.
Nami shook her head and tried to suppress these thoughts.
The game only lasted a very long time.
That could happen, the young woman tried to calm herself down and remembered a game Monopoly where the four had been sitting for a whole weekend.
When Nami woke up, it was quiet– too quiet.
She usually woke up when Takumi became awake and started screaming.
She got up and a look out of the window told the young woman that she had slept longer than planned.
She threw a look at her alarm clock– she slept for almost five hours.
She sighed and shook her head slightly. The boys should have woken up about four hours ago.
Nami left her room and went towards the living room.
There she stopped at the door.
Arisu and Karube were sleeping on the couch and Chota told Takumi, which happened to him at work in the past few days.
"– And I'm sure ny boss wasn't happy about it, because he left a note on my desk the next day. But what do you think?"
He looked to the four-month-old boy, who did fall asleep in the meantime.
"Of course", Chota said and added a mumbled, "Just like your mother".
"I heard that."
"I don't know what you mean."
Nami chuckled, "Of course you don't."
The young woman walked into the living room and looked around.
"You cleaned up," Nami noticed.
"We did," nodded Chota. "We also orders food. Yours is in the kitchen, if you want."
"You guys are saving my life," said Nami.
She was grateful to have those three idiots as friends.
During her pregnancy, she was afraid that the group would fall apart, but luckily that hadn't happened.
Arisu, Karube and Chota had been there for her all the time, as well as now.
"We are there for that."
Nami shook her head and entered the kitchen, which was also cleaned, to get something to eat.
The rest of the day flew by and Nami was still alone.
So far, the young woman had been able to distract herself with reading or other things, but it got more difficult my the minute.
She sat on the roof with a bag of chips and watched the sun disappeared behind the city's buildings.
"It's a shame that you can't see any stars from here, don't you think?", Nami asked, looking out of the window, watching the empty night-sky.
"Huh? Oh, yes, very sad," murmured Arisu.
Nami's best friend sat in front of his computer and played some online game while the teenage girl tried to do her homework.
"Shouldn't you do your homework, too?"
"I'm already done," Arisu lied and started another game.
"Don't lie to me."
Arisus character died and the teenager boy threw his controller on the table.
He sighed and turned to Nami.
"Actually, I'm thinking about quitting school," said Arisu.
"What?", Nami said, looking at Arisu.
He just looked down at his hands.
She was the first person he talked to about it.
Nami put her pen to the side and closed the book.
Her friends had to be somewhere out there.
"Okay, that's it," murmured Nami and threw the empty chips bag next to her.
She would no longer wait for the others and decided to go searching for them tomorrow.
The young woman stood up and went to the door.
Before she went walked down the stairs, she turned around and picked up the chips bag to throw it into a trash can.
Nami put on her sleeping clothes and just wanted to switch out the homemade lamps when she stopped and pulled her hand away.
For a moment, she looked silently at the lamp, turned and went to bed.
Nami estimated it was already around noon when the young woman forced herself out of bed.
Nami would have loved to stay, but Nami knew that she couldn't do that.
So she forced herself up and switched off the lamp.
Then Nami tried to eat something.
Usually Nami was always hungry, but at the moment she got sick by only looking at the food.
"What's wrong?", Kaube wanted to know when Nami pushed the tablet with food away from her.
"I'm not hungry," said Nami.
Karube furrowed his eyebrows and looked at Nami worried.
Since she git her knew kidney, Nami had hardly eaten anything.
"Just like yesterday," said the teenager.
"Now is not so dramatic and eat," her mother instructed the fourteen-year-old.
Nami shook her head and her mother rolled her eyes.
Before she could continue to complain about her daughter, her phone rang and she left the room.
After the door closed behind her, Karube pushed the food back in front of Nami.
"I am not leaving before you eat," he threatened.
He picked up some food with the chopsticks and layed it back down so that Nami could take them.
Nami touched the chopsticks, but did not pick it up from the plate.
"Nami, it's not your fault," said Karube, referring to the little boy who needed the kidney more urgent than Nami.
"I know," replied the teenage girl.
After eating Nami, she grabbed a note and wrote a message herself– just in case.
OUT LOOKING FOR YOU IDIOTS. BE BACK SOON!
Nami also placed four water bottles and chocolate bars on the table next to the note.
Then she grabbed her backpack and left the building.
Since Nami was alone, the search went on very slowly and it took a few hours–Nami estimated four or five hours– until the young woman met another person.
"Sorry," Nami spoke to the older man. "How long have you been here?"
"About two weeks. Why?", he wanted to know, eyeing her suspiciously.
"Well, I am looking for my friends. They went to one of the games two days ago. And I was wondering if you–"
"Two days ago?", the older man interrupted Nami. "They are probably dead. Or they decided to leave you."
"You don't know them," replied Nami. "Now, do you know where the game arenas were that day?"
She did not believe for a second that they would leave her.
"If you say so. But if I remember correctly ine of the arenas was the botanic garden. Maybe you'll find your answers there."
"Thank you very much," Nami ended the conversation as fast as she began it.
"Her friends are so dead," the man murmured as he watched the young woman disappeared between the buildings.
Nami reached the botanical garden at dusk, which somehow made the building look creepy.
"Hello? Guys?"
Slowly she stepped towards the building.
An unexpected loud noise made Nami flinch.
"Is someone here?", sked the young woman and turned in the direction which the noise came from.
It came from the side of the building and Nami first saw several garbage cans.
And then she found out what fell to the fround, causing the sound– a self-made crutch.
