Chapter One

Nami placed the object on the living room table and sat down next to the other woman.

"And here is the photo album you wanted," said Nami.

The other woman leafed through it excitedly– probably reliving the best day of her life.

"I knew it was the right decision to hire you as my wedding photographer."

"Thank you," Nami smiled and ran her hand through her chin-length, violet hair.

She was happy that everything worked out fine and that the bride would have fond memories of the day– partly thanks to Nami.

Photography always was a hobby of Nami's and she seriously considered turning her hobby into a career.

The young woman even looked for jobs in the field, but so far it was unsuccessful.

Sometimes they even suggested to her that she should simply become self-employed, but Nami wasn't sure about that.

At that moment the baby monitor made some noise.

Nami sighed, her son always woke up from his nap at the wrong moment.

"Oh, you have a child?", asked the other woman, who only now noticed the baby monitor.

"A son, yes," Nami replied. "He just woke up from his nap."

Through the baby monitor she heard the bedroom door open.

Her aunt spoke to Takumi and turned off the baby monitor so Nami could continue to focus on her customer.

The other woman nodded again with satisfaction as she closed the photo album.

"I can't thank you enough, honestly," the other woman thanked again when Nami opened the apartment door a short time later.

"Just give your friends my number if they need a photographer," Nami joked.

She waved at the other woman again and closed the door.

The young woman sighed and shuffled into the kitchen where her aunt was sitting at the table.

The young mother smiled and took her son from her aunt.

"Did you have a good nap?", she asked and gave her son a kiss on the head.

Of course the baby couldn't answer, but the kicking of his legs showed Nami that Takumi was full of energy again.

"Looks like he did," commented Nami's aunt.

The niece scoffed and a glance at the clock told her she should hurry.

Nami had an appointment with the doctor today– a routine check-up, but still important.

She reluctantly handed her son over to her aunt and put on her shoes.

"I'll be back as soon as possible," Nami assured.

"Take your time. Takumi and I are having a nice day. It would be nice if you brought something from the supermarket."

Nami put the note in her bag.

"And who knows, maybe you'll get lost in the hospital and have to ask a young, handsome–"

"That's not–"

"Just check if he has a ring before you talk to him."

Nami chuckled and gave Takumi a kiss on the cheek.

"Be a good boy," she murmured, closing the door behind her.

The young woman left the pharmacy and put the medication in her bag.

She stopped briefly to put headphones in her ears.

Then she grabbed her phone and saw several new messages.

A: CAN I GO TO THE BAR?

A: I'M OFFICIALLY HOMELESS.

A: KARUBE, YOU THERE?

A: KARUBE

A: CHOTA, YOU WORKING?

A: LET ME STAY OVER.

A: NAMI? WHERE ARE YOU? CAN I COME OVER?

A: HEY, ARE YOU GUYS IGNORING ME?

A: FINE.

Nami sighed and put one of the headphones in her ear.

N: NO ONE IS IGNORING YOU MAN...

K: I WAS FIRED FROM MY JOB.

The young woman deviated from a puddle of melted ice cream.

N: WHAT?

A: SERIOUSLY? WHEN?

K: RIGHT NOW. I'M JOBLESS NOW!

C: GOOD JOB GETTING FIRED.

A chuckle escaped nami when she stopped at a red traffic light.

N: THEY DON'T DESERVE YOU ANYWAY!

C: I'M SKIPPING WORK RIGHT NOW.

N: GOOD JOB SKIPPING WORK.

K: YOU SHOULD WORK, CHOTA. YOU'RE POOR.

N: WE ALL DON'T HAVE A LOT OF MONEY.

A: I LEFT HOME.

N: WAIT, WHAT? WHAT HAPPENED?

A: I NEED A DRINK.

C: ME TOO!

Nami thought about it for a second. Her plan was to get back home as soon as possible, but she also knew that her aunt would be okay to look after Takumi for one or two more hours...

N: I'M IN!

N: NOT WITH THE DRINKT, BUT YOU KNOW.

K: LET'S GO, THEN!

A: GO FIND A JOB, KARUBE.

C: YOU TOO, ARISU.

A: HEY! NAMI IS JOBLESS, TOO...

N: FUCK YOU :)

K: OKAY, LET'S MEET IN FRONT OF SHIBUYA STATION.

A: OKAY!

C: OKAY!

N: OKAY!

A: I STEPPED ON SOMEONE'S VOMIT.

C: GOOD JOB STEPPING ON VOMIT.

A: I'M HAVING THE WORST DAY.

C: ME TOO.

K: SAME.

N: NAW... YOU POOR MAN!!!

C: WE KNOW.

A: I JUST DON'T FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN DOING MY BEST SINCE THIS MORNING.

K: ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOUR GAME?

N: BECAUSE, IF YOU ARE … I SWEAR...

A: FOUND YOU, KARUBE!

K: HEY!

C: HEY!

A: HEY.

Nami crossed the street and looked around for her friends.

Fortunately, she saw Arisu standing on a large billboard.

N: HI!

She went towards him and at first he didn't notice her because he looked at his phone and it looked like he was writing another message.

"Hey, We're Right here," said Karube when he, Nami and Chota stopped in front of Arisu.

They laughed and Nami slightly shook her head.

"You wanna go get a drink?" Chota wanted to know.

"It's Early. Not many bars open", Arisu pointed out

"Man. that settles that, guess we're going to a mall again."

Nami sighed. And leaned onto the wall like the others.

The mall was not perfect, but the time would go faster than if they were standing around here.

That and the young woman recently bought a sweater that was too small and wanted to bring it back.

"Wait a Second," said Chota and turned to Nami. "Shouldn't you be at this Mother-Child-Group Thing right now? Or an I messing something up?"

"No you don't," replied Nami. "I had a Doctor's Appointment, so we couldn't Go. I mean, I planned to take him with me to get some Ice-cream later, but my aunt insisted on watching him."

"Right, you told us about it," said Arisu. "What did the Doctor say?"

"I have three Months left", Nami replied with a serious facial expression.

"What?! Really?"

Arisu, Karube and Chota looked at the young woman horrified and worried.

"No, you idiots. Everything is fine."

"Oh my–"

"What the fuck, Nami."

"Don't scare us like that."

"I'm sorry," giggled Nami. "But you should have seen your faces."

Arisu scoffed and Karube rolled his eyes.

The four friends leaned against the wall again and looked around again at the crowded street.

"I'm down with going to a deserted Island," murmured Arisu.

"I'm down with Zombies showing up in Shibuya," joked Chota. "Everyone here gets, and they all turn into zombies."

"Stop it with the zombie talk, will ya?"

"Yeah, Vampires and Werewolves are way better anyway. I mean, Zombies would be more realistic, but–"

"If Zombies did show up here, only Karube would survive. You'd knock 'em out with one punch."

Karube chuckled.

"I doubt that. You and Nami would be the one to survive, Arisu," he said, sounding strangely serious.

"What? Why's that?" Arisu wanted to know, confused.

"Because I know you'd outsmart 'em," the other man replied. "Arisu, Nami free advice… You should stop hanging out with us and go live your lives. You should do it."

"Huh?"

Nami and Arisu gave each other an irritated look.

But they couldn't take what Karube said seriously and chuckled.

"What's with him?" Arisu addressed Nami and Chota.

Nami laughed like the other two and shrugged her shoulders.

But Karube's expression remained serious and the other three realized that he meant what he said.

"Shit, let's do this. Come on!"

Karube threw away his cigarette and lifted Arisu onto his shoulders.

"Whoa! What are you doing? Whoa!"

"This is the first day of your independence!"

Karube walked towards the street.

"Chota, take a picture!"

"Okay", Chota said and took his cell phone out of his pocket.

He and Nami ran after the two.

"Comin' through!"

"Whoa!"

"How is the air up there, Arisu?" Nami asked and ran next to Karube.

"Step aside",Karube warned the other people who walked past the group.

"Hey, this is dangerous," said Arisu when the group entered the street when the light was green.

"Hey, hey!"

"Hey, wait! Let me take a picture!"

"Whoa!"

"Wait, what are you doing?"

"Turn towards me", shouted Chota.

"Hey! Stop, no pictures!"

"Oh, come on, Arisu! Big smile, big smile!" Nami laughed.

"Look here, look here!"

"Come on, Arisu! Here, look at the camera!"

Nami and Chota were running around Karube and Arisu and Nami almost ran into someone.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," she murmured.

"Stop, dammit! Fuck!" Arisu shouted.

"Now that's a good face!"

Suddenly Arisu seemed to relax and really enjoy the view.

"Whoo!"

"Yeah!"

All four started to cheer and enjoyed the moment.

"Shibuya! You rock!"

Suddenly there were no other people around them, and the young adults noticed that their traffic light had turned red.

"Oh, get off! Get off!"

"Put me down."

Karube lowered Arisu back to the ground.

"Come on. Quick, quick, quick."

"You guys are crazy!" a man shouted to the group as he drove past them.

Another car that drove past them honked at them.

"Watch out!"

"Look out!"

Arisu took Nami's hand and they tried to get off the road to avoid being run over.

"Hurry up!"

"Look, fireworks", said Chota, pointing into the sky between the skyscrapers.

"Run for your lives!"

Another car stopped abruptly to avoid running over the group.

"Moron", the driver screamed just before a second car drove into his car.

Then Nami and the others were finally off the street and Arisu let go of Nami's hand.

"Guys, wa– wait. It's the cops," Arisu warned, pointing to the entrance to the police station.

"Whoa! Go, go, go"

"We'll be in trouble!"

"Let's get out of here!"

"Run! Run!"

They ran towards the subway station.

Nami couldn't help but laugh as she pulled out her phone during the race and opened the app for the ticket.

"The stairs!"

The group tried to run towards the stairs, but two other police officers were standing there.

"Whoa!"

The young woman also almost ran into Chota because he and the others stopped abruptly.

"Oh, watch out!"

"Turn around! Turn around!"

They turned around and now walked towards the toilets.

Nami ignored the looks she got as she followed the others into the men's Restroom without thinking.

In the end, all four hid in one of the toilet stalls.

"Let me lock it. Gimme a second."

"Come on."

"Just hurry it up, for fuck's sake!"

"Damn–"

Nami and the others looked at each other and couldn't suppress a laugh.

The young woman ran her hand through her hair and breathed a sigh of relief while Chota gestured for his friends to look at their cell phones.

She pulled hers out of her pocket and saw that he had written something.

C: WHO FARTED?

Nami initially furrowed her eyebrows, but then grimaced when an unpleasant smell hit her nose.

C: WHO WHAT IT? OWN UP AND SNIFF UP YOUR OWN FART!

Chota giggled and Nami rolled her eyes.

"It was you, right?" Karube whispered.

He and Arisu tried to wave the air in Chota's direction.

Meanwhile, the young woman closed her eyes, trying to process that she was surrounded by idiots.
