Chapter 3
"The Time Limit for this Room is one minute and fifty seconds."
"The Girl really is dead", murmed Nami and leaned against the wall.
"What the hell is this?" Arisu wanted to know from the other woman. "You were the one who killed that girl."
"But you guys survored because of me, didn't you?"
"What?"
"Blame me all you want. If you guys don't think fast, you're gonna die, too."
"Damn it! Do we choose the 'Dead' Door Now, Huh?"
"Since the Last One was 'Dead', the Next One Should Be 'Alive'."
"Yeah, but maybe that's what they want us to think."
"But it's hard to choose 'Dead'", replied Arisu.
"Wait a second. I think that this is a game where we choose a sacrifice," said the other woman.
"A Sacrifice?"
Did Nami misheard her?
She stepped away from the wall and stood to the others.
"There's probably no difference in the doors. What's important is who opens theme. They want us to choose a person within the time limit."
"You sacrifized that girl. Why don't you open the next door?"
"Because I believe if i survive, it'll be for the good of all mankind."
"Oh, fuck you", hissed Nami.
"Well, don't we feel good about ourselves?"
"One minute has passed."
"No one wants open a door at this rate."
"We're all gonna the in the fire if time runs out!"
"Then why don't you open it?", the other woman said to Arisu. "You want me to open it, why don't you do it yourself? You want someone else to open it!"
Nami Rolled her eyes when smoke was also directed into this room.
"All right, my open it."
"Arisu," said Karube.
Arisu looked back and forth between the two doors and decided to open the 'Dead' door.
"Stop, Arisu. Don't list to here!"
"I'm open the door. Fuck!"
"Arisu!"
He reached for the door knob, but simply couldn't open the door.
"Thirty seconds remaining."
"See? Not so easy, is it? Even you would have sacrifized that girl!"
"Shut the fuck up!"
"Twenty seconds remaining."
"I'll do it," said Nami and passed her bag on to Chota.
"Nami–"
"No, you don't–"
"Like you're gonna stop me", Nami scoffed and walked up to the 'Alive' door.
"Wait! Nami, think about Takumi," tried Karube, to stop her. "He needs you."
"I know. That's why we need to get out of here", replied the young woman.
"Ten seconds remaining."
"Nami."
She took a deep breath and opened the door.
"Nami!"
Nothing happened.
"Five, four, three–"
Nami laughed and stepped away from the door to let the others into the room.
"Hurry"
"– two, one."
When everyone was in the next room, Nami quickly closed the door.
"The Time Limit for this room is one minute and forty seconds."
"The Time Limit is shortening."
"Yeah, that's not good," murmured Nami and took her bag back from Chota.
"I can't do this anymore," said the young man fearfully.
"Take a deep breath," advised Nami Chota.
She rummaged in her pocket: "Does one of you want a Cookie?"
With the silence that followed, Nami thought she was deaf for a second.
"What? I am a stress-eater. You know that!", The young woman defended herself. "Anyway, Arisu, what do you think?"
"Think?"
"You always say there are solutions built into every Game, right?"
"But this isn't a game," reminded Arisu Nami.
"You can figure it out," said Karube. "You've always solved the Puzzle Games that I could never figure out. So do it!"
"Karube, This is not a game. It's all about Luck."
"Arisu, just think!"
"One minute has passed."
"Was there a clue somewhere? Think back. Together, we came into this building–"
“Remember the time limit,” the other woman chimed in.
"Shut up," Nami hissed.
"– And then, we went into the elevator"
"I won't do this!"
"Don't give up, Arisu! You can reboot this game!"
"It's impossible, I'm telling you!"
"We're going to die!"
"You're the gamer! While I was working my ass off, you were sitting on a couch playing! Huh?"
"You think that makes you better? The only thing you really know is how to fight. How is that better?"
"Yeah? Well, I'll show you how," Karube replied and punched Arisu.
The other man stumbled back and fell to the ground.
"Stop it, Karube!"
"Wait," Arisu said suddenly. "Wait a minute."
The look on his face told Nami, that Arisu already made up a plan in his mind.
"Thirty seconds remaining."
"BMW 523," Arisu murmured and walked to the middle of the room.
"The car in front of the building?" Nami asked.
"Yes, BMW 523."
"Yeah?"
Arisu remained silent for a moment.
"The answer is 'Dead'."
"How do you know?"
"Ten seconds remaining."
"We gotta hurry", commented Karube.
"I'll open it up," Arisu reported and ran towards the 'Dead' door.
"Wait!"
"Arisu! Are you sure the answer is 'Dead'?"
"Please," the young man whispered and opened the door.
"Five, four, three–"
Arisu stumbled into the next room and nothing happened.
"This means I'm right," Arisu said happily and the others followed him into the next room and Nami helped Karube close the door.
"The time limit for this room is one minute and thirty seconds."
"Where to next?"
"Arisu, do you know which one this time?"
"My father has a BMW 523. It’s 4 meters, 94 centimeters–," Arisu began to explain.
"One of 'em was parked next to the building," Nami remembered.
"Correct. The length of the building is equivalent to four of those cars. This means that the building is approximately 24 meters in length. And this room If I measure with my feet– One, two, three– It should be around six meters . According to the evacuation map, the elevator is at the corner of the building. The shape of the building is square. Assuming that one side of the building is 20 meters and the length of a single room is 6 meters, that's three rooms a side."
"One minute has passed."
"I need something to write on!"
Nami already had a premonition and took a pen and paper out of her bag while Arisu was speaking.
"Here."
"Thanks," said Arisu, sait down and started drawing on the piece of paper.
"We're in a square building. Assuming that each room is square, this means that this floor has nine rooms."
"It's just like a puzzle."
"Arisu's a genius at them."
"We started from this room. The high-school girl died in this room. Thanks to Nami, we moved forward. This means that the door to the right cannot be accessed. Then I opened the door to this room–"
"Thirty seconds remaining."
"By process of elimination, this room and the one next to it can't be accessed. I'm sure of that," Arisu finished his explanation and everyone stood up again.
"Ten seconds remaining."
"The answer is 'Dead'! The 'Alive' door is a trap!"
"Four, Three, Two -"
The group virtually stumbled into the next room and closed the door behind it.
"The Time Limit for this room is one minute and twenty seconds."
"If your reasoning is right, we're gonna survive!"
"You're awesome, Arisu!"
"This game is not based on Luck," said Arisu. "We need to clear it together. According to my drawing, the next is 'Dead'."
"Let's do it!"
They all stood in front of the door.
"Ready?"
"Uh-Huh."
Arisu opened the next door and it was right again.
"Nice!"
"Yeah, we did it!"
"The time limit for this room is one minute and ten seconds."
Arisu took a look at his piece of paper.
"'Alive'."
This door was also right.
"The time limit for this room is one minute."
While Chota and Karube were happy being in the next room, Nami noticed that the doors were now placed in the different places in the room.
"So what's next?", Chota wanted to know.
Arisu drew the two doors in the drawing
"Since that door is out of the questions, should we choose one on the other wall?"
Chota, Karube and the other woman and already went to the 'Dead' door.
"Wait a second!", Arisu said. "I might just have missed something."
"Fifty seconds remaining."
Arisu thought for another moment about which door you should go through.
"We're wasting time! We're all gonna die!"
"You haven't even opened a door!"
"What are you even talking about? Don't blame this on me!"
"What are you talking about? He is right."
"Stop it, all of you!"
"Chota, you took a video of the first room!"
Chota stepped away from the door to show Arisu the video.
"There's no time for that!"
"Then open the door and see what happens", Nami suggested annoyed.
"Thirty seconds remaining."
"I could've missed something," said Arisu, stopping where the girl opened the wrong door.
"There's no door."
"Huh?"
"There's no door in the room the girl entered."
"What does that mean?"
"There's a door here!"
"Ten seconds remain."
"That means the room the High-school girl died isn't next to us!"
"You mean what?"
"There's another room on the other side!"
"– three, two, one–"
The group crossed the room and stumbled through the 'Alive' door.
Only Chota was a bit too slow and his pants caught fire.
"The time limit for this room is ten seconds."
"Ten seconds? Are you kidding?" Karube complained while he and Nami tried help Chota.
The other woman ran towards the 'Alive' door at the same time.
"It's not 'Alive'! It's 'Dead'! Don't open it, it's a trap," warned Arisu and opened the 'Dead' door.
"Five, four, three–"
"Hurry!"
Nami and Karube helped Chota back on his feed and left the room with him and the other woman at the last second.
"Which way now?"
"Head downstairs," said Arisu.
The group sprinted down the fire staircase and at the ended in a small alley.
Karube and Nami put Chota on a garbage can.
"Game cleared."
"It's all thanks to you. Thank you," said the woman, whose name Nami still didn't know.
But at that moment she did not care and Nami just showed her the middle finger.
Then her view fell on a round standing table fell, which certainly did not belong in this dirty alley.
Nami got up and slowly went towards it.
There was only one card on the table– Three of Clubs.
"To the Survivors of the Game, we will now supply you with a Visa."
The young woman quickly pulled her phone out of her pocket.
WE WILL SUPPLY ALL GAME SURVIVORS WITH A 3-DAY VISA
"Visa?"
"You know, right now I could use one of those Cookies."
Nami chuckled and wanted to reach for her bag when a man walked into the alley.
"I'm going to drop out of the game," he said. "Listen. There's no end to the game, no matter how much you clear. My visa just ended today. And now i wish to play no longer."
A laser came from the sky and shot him through his head.
The man fell to the ground and the light from the building behind them went out.
"When your visa expires, you must return to the game or–", said the other woman.
"Our Visas will end too," said Arisu after another look at his phone.
"We've got three Days."
"If you don't want to die, you'll have to continue playing the Game."
