Chapter 6
I heard shouts and when I had opened my eyes I saw the woman I thought was my real mother picking me up and running away from the burning house. I called out momma and a tear went down her cheek and hugged me close.
“I’ll be your momma, I promise,” she said and everything went black.
I woke up and my body felt sore and when I looked around I noticed the house wasn’t on fire or looked like it ever was in the first place. I picked myself up from the ground and looked around confused. I stood up and walked out the mansion while it was raining trying to figure out what time period was I in this time because I had no clue which one was which.
Images of a war and the burning mansion kept flickering in front of my eyes for only seconds the disappearing and reappearing as fast as they came. I shut my eyes and held my head to make the huge migraine coming go away. What was wrong with me? Why did this happen to me?
“Lucy?” a voice asked and I kept my eyes shut tighter. No, how would I know if this was real?
“Lucy!” the voice shouted and I shook my head no. I jumped when I felt a pair of arms grab me and hug me close. My eyes widened in shock and I felt tense. He whispered something in my ears and it felt like a light lullaby putting me to sleep. I tucked my head to the crook of his neck and inhaled the smell of the woods on an autumn’s day.
“Why am I like this?” I asked and he just rocked me back and forth not saying a word. I felt my eyelids grow heavy and I soon fell asleep into Ian’s arms that seemed to feel right, so comfortable like I was made for him and he was made for me.
Ian’s POV
She slept quietly in my arms and I looked back at the mansion she had run out of. There was something wrong with that mansion, my wings could tell me that much. I flew her to her cottage and opened the door like I owned the place and lied her down on her bed. I had planned to go back and check the mansion out but an arm grabbing my wrist stopped me.
I looked down and Lucy’s eyes were pretty much glowing blue which in this case meant she was still scared and didn’t want me to leave. She mumbled something that sounded like “stay,” and I laid down next her pulling her into my chest. I would definitely have to check out that mansion tomorrow.
I ran my fingers through her light brown hair and could feel her heart rate starting to slow down. What was in that mansion felt sinister but why did it have such a connection to her? Why is it that my father wanted to meet her so much that he didn’t punish me for lying to him but also called off my engagement with Susan daughter of Lust?
I shivered just thinking about that disgusting sin. She was really sick in the mind and thought of nothing but violence. Whatever reason my dad called it off was truly a mystery to me. I snuggled in closer to Lucy and closed my eyes letting sleep take over us.
Jake’s POV (sorry this will be the only time I will be switching around so much!)
Nearly dozens of reports have come in claiming to have seen a figure with razor sharp teeth and red eyes. Parents are keeping doors locked, children in bed by nine o’ clock and no one outside late at night.
The once quiet place of North Carolina is now the number one place in the world for people disappearing and being found dead within a matter of days. Is there a serial killer on the loose? Or is this all from a new species of animal let out in the poor state of NC?
My name is Cheryl O’Conner reporting to you here on CNN.
I turned off the television pissed that I had been here for about a week and pretty much have not been able to locate Leah or find out what’s been doing the killings but from the look of things everything was pointing at Leah for being the killer.
But how was I supposed to check if she kept avoiding me and Nico at every cost. The only time we had seen her she looked shaken, but almost in a crazed way. Clearly there was something she was not telling us.
I looked at Nico’s baggy eyes showing he hasn’t slept in weeks, the paleness of his complexion, and he looked as if he had lost ten pounds already. The dude was not in good shape. He kept looking at his dorm room door almost hoping probably Leah would come in an open up to him and say everything was fine.
“Hey man, you go ahead and get some sleep I’m going to see if I can charm one of the girls at this school to talk to Leah.” I said standing up. He didn’t move or say anything but just nodded his head. I shook my head in pity before walking out the door and out of the dorm.
The breeze was light and college kids were on their way back to their dorms to male curfew. I was honestly going to try to talk to a girl and convince her to talk to Leah but there in the middle of the courtyard bench sat a girl who I had been taught to protect and raise.
“Leah?” I asked and the figure looked at me startled. It was Leah alright but she looked like she had changed. Her face had red smears of bruising and her eyes had dark rims around them. Her hair was not long and smooth but ragged and knotty. To simply put it she looked horrible.
“Don’t look at me!” she hissed turning away but not running as I had expected.
“Leah what’s wrong? Who did this to you?” I asked in a concerned brotherly way.
“I don’t know it-it happened one day when I had looked at the sky and then it felt as if someone had thrown boiling water on my face!” she sobbed. I sat down next to her and she scooted away.
“Then why are avoiding Nico?” I asked trying to grasp the severity of the situation that is putting them both through hell.
“He can’t see my like this or he’ll think I’m a monster!” she wailed shaking. I touched her lightly and she cringed.
“I’ve also been having these bad thoughts of killing people, I don’t why but every time someone gets me mad I get the sudden urge to choke them and kill them.” She said in a change of tone that had even made the breeze seem colder than it should have.
“Have you talked to Evianna about this?” I asked trying to think of something to say. I mean the first part she said I wanted to tell her she was a big idiot and that he would love her even if she were an ogre, but I didn’t think that would help this situation. The next part she had said had caught me off guard the only explanation I could give her was to see if Evianna was having the same thoughts.
“No but it’s not easy to tell anyone, hey are you having evil thoughts of ripping people’s throats out too?” she said and I thought about it closely.
“No but you were able to tell me.” I pointed out and she was quiet but I could tell just from knowing her so long that she was probably smiling.
“Your right but that still doesn’t make it easier it just makes me feel more alone,” she said finally.
“Well why don’t you regroup and talk to Nico because the poor boy is going to have to go either to an asylum or the hospital if he goes another week with you avoiding him.” I suggested thinking of a way to get in contact with Evianna. She laughed lightly and agreed before getting up and walking towards his dorm
“I wonder if Lucy would have her number,” I asked myself out loud. Lucy. I hadn’t seen her in a week; I literally had just got up and left her. If I hadn’t spent so much time looking for that stupid book of the family’s past I could have told her how much I missed having her by my side.
“Who you talking to mister?” a voice said from behind me. I turned around to see a pale white girl with a red tank and black leather jacket as well as black skinny jeans and biker boots. Her black hair was long and when it moved it looked almost like a mirage. Her eyes were brown but they looked fake and she had incredibly white teeth.
“No one really,” I said passing her. For some reason she gave me the chills and I could have sworn she said you’re interesting I think I’ll let you live for now. But that must have been my imagination right?
