Make Way for the Tyrant
My first recommendation!! Thank you to Calamity_Senpai for being the first to ask me to recommend a book!
Ok, let's start with the basics.
This is a 8 chapter long fanfiction on Haikyuu that is still in the making. It has a male oc and is Yaoi meaning boyxboy. 3 of the chapters are not directly part of the story. It is written by Calamity_Senpai. It's genre could be put under either Fanfiction or Slice of Life.
Ok now that we've got the basics down, let's look into the actual story.
Technical:
There are little to none writing mistakes in this book, at least from what I can see. It has proper grammar, punctuation, spelling etc. It's very easy to tell when someone is talking or thinking. Spacing between paragraphs is well done and makes it easy to read. This isn't a really serious and gritty work but instead is more light-hearted and fun.
Character:
Masato is the protagonist of this book. His personality is quite charming. From what has been written so far, he has a easily flustered and shy side, a playful and mischievous side, a friendly side seen by how he deals with a confession and his interactions with the teams at the volleyball trip, a calm and gentle side shown by the way he assists the Karasuno team and a more aggressive side shown in his volleyball match against Karasuno. He has connections with many people and was formerly part of Nekoma. He is pansexual which makes sense, considering this is yaoi. Masato also seems to be keeping a few secrets as to why he won't leave Japan to pursue a better volleyball career. It's also nice seeing a foreign character coming from somewhere other than either France or America.
Plot:
As of now, the plot points are only really Masato joining the team and Karasuno going to the training camp. Both are done exceedingly well, giving us a look into how Masato interacts with people. Right from the get go, you can tell that this story starts on episode 2 season 2, Direct Sunlight, as Karasuno is preparing to leave to Tokyo.
Recommendation:
I rate this story a 8/10. It's wonderfully written with detailed descriptions and writing style that effectively relays information but also makes it enjoyable to read. Masato is a relatable and charming protagonist which you instantly fall in love with. All the Haikyuu characters are portrayed quite accurately. The pacing of the pot is excellent and Calamity Senpai keep the story going, while also making sure the readers have spent enough time on a scene.
Honestly the only problem I have with this story is howbadly it makes me want for another chapter. While the chapters don't necessarily leave off on a cliffhanger, you want so desperately to see what Masato would do in different situations that you hope the next chapter will come out soon.
I do prefer a more deep and dark story that looks into the problems with society today, which is why I scored it the way I did, though this is only my opinion. I can't believe that this story only has 50 votes. This work is so well written and enjoyable, Calamity Senpai, you deserve way more credit. So to all fans of Haikyuu and even if your not a fan, you definitely want to check this story out.
