ULMARK: By broxmen
Genre: Action
Chapters: 13
Recommended Audience: All ages
Description: ULMARK is a city where chaos is a daily bread for living in that city and definitely when the smartest, wittiest and most dangerous criminals of the planet Tiget Jordan is dwelling in that city, chaos, angst and craziness can never be far away.
ULMARK as a book provides drama, action, adventures, emotions and it revolves around a police commissioner named Josh Timber and his family, it is a story of how deep a family man can go to fight against the greatest criminals in the planet and how hard a criminal can throw his city into misery.
This book was definitely pretty interesting. I haven't anything like this and it was enjoyable. But that's as far as the compliments go, I liked the idea... I just didn't enjoy how it was presented. Though this first volume stands at 1.5k reads and 822 stars, I think there was A LOT that could be approved on and with that being said, let's get into the review.
1. Writing Style ✍
Not trying to sound rude but... the writing style could use a bit of touching up. During the first few chapters, I really enjoyed the writing style but then things kind of got... sloppy.
It didn't really stand out to me like other books. I'm sure you could see where I'm coming if you've read it. The writing seemed too simple and failed to distinguish itself. I know the writing could definitely improve and I would recommend reading Hellhound by Syns-to-Ink for its masterful writing.
Now it wasn't terrible, it was quite enjoyable but I do think many paragraphs could be rewritten for a stronger sense of emotion.
2. Plot📖
As the description suggests, the plot revolves around Josh Timber and his family. Josh takes extreme risks to protect his family and ULAMARK as he, along with his team, fights against criminals threatening the peace of their city. I loved the plot, it was simple and understandable. As you dive deeper into the story, you see how much risk Josh takes in protecting his family. It almost brings to a tear to my eye... almost. I can't wait to see how things go down in the second volume!
3. Characters🙋♂️🙋♀️
Being honest, Josh and Dann were the best characters considering how I could really feel their emotions. The others didn't quite have that feeling as they were more stereotypical. I give credit to Anna, Dann's mom, because she was that mother who wasn't too worried. She knows Josh's potential and that was incredible. I hope to see more characters like this in the second volume. Again, the characters weren't bad by any means, the story focused on Josh after all though stronger personality could've went into some of them.
4. Environmental and Character Descriptions👁🏞
This is another thing the book could improve in. The descriptions were a bit underdeveloped and that made it difficult to picture the characters and settings in my mind. Often times it wasn't very specific.
Yes, the author describes Josh, Dann, and Anna in the second chapter and describes Josh's apartment but it is limited. With descriptions, it allows the reader to see what you, the author, sees. I highly recommend this in the next volume.
5. Originality💡
I'm sure there are many books on Wattpad that feature a similar plot, there are definitely some movies that certainly focus on a family man. When it comes down to it, this story is a sea of originality and the fact that there is another volume possibility coming will open up more ideas.
6. Overall Tone🎭
This story carries a tone of a suspense and worry as I read on. I felt the emotion within the character. I was really impressed on how the simplest words could make me feel so much.
With that out the way, let's see if this score was able to save ULMARK.
Rating Score: 🌟🌟🌟 and a half.
Yes, three stars in a half. The book was excellent but the writing style and lack of descriptions really affected it. Another reason for the score were the errors, jeez there were so many that I just gave up correcting them. Instead of the errors list... read the story, not to view the errors I commented on, but to see why I gave it the score I did. There was some much potential for this work and it's a shame to see how the little things impacted it. If you guys could give support on his book, that'd be amazing! Until next time!
