I really liked the way the first chapter was written and how it really brings in that nice introduction into Caroline's mind and general character, providing a good basis for further development. The author does well to write about that mask that hides our feelings and puts on a facade for Caroline's depression and self-hate, and how something like the death of a loved one can really take someone's mentality spiraling downhill. Going back to the self-hate/self-harm, I found it really intriguing how the author truly went into that deeper look into self-harm that most other authors would normally never write, not beating around the bush or sugarcoating Caroline's whole life and mentality.

The authors look into friendships are also well portrayed, how Caroline manages to keep that smiley facade around her friends and even raises others' self esteem despite what she thinks of herself. I loved the introduction into Sarah, and whenever the author writes her character into a scene you can just feel that innocence and sweetness that comes with her. Later on in the story I liked the switchover into Sarah's perspective, how the author writes more into Sarah's knowledge of Caroline's trust issues, and how much Sarah truly cares and supports Caroline, even if Caroline doesn't notice it. I also found the little insight into Sarah's personal problems intriguing as it adds to her character development.

Caroline's reaction upon first seeing Ryker is well written, and as the story progresses that yearning for the guy she likes really shines through. The subtle sneak peek into Ryker's personality is appreciated, showing his politeness and generosity that immediately makes him a lovable character. Caroline and Ryker's first conversation through text was cute and awkward, and their first face to face meeting was equally cute and awkward. There are a few bumps in the road when it's revealed that Ryker has a girlfriend and Caroline is in denial over her crush, but some of that tension is released when Caroline finally lets out her story, letting all of that pent up emotion out and releasing that weight on her chest. Caroline and Ryker's relationship immediately becomes infinitely adorable, how he cares about her, how he's willing to skip school just to spend time with her, dancing in the rain, and having a perfect tv date.

Through all of this, we begin to see Caroline gain back some of that trust and happiness she lost so long ago. With these many well written descriptions and plot lines it's easy to fall in love with Caroline and Ryker's adorable relationship in princess_aiimee 's Blue Eyed Perfection.
